In this paper, a semi-fragile watermark solution based on quantization index modulation in the wavelet region was proposed. The algorithm employs a compressed halftoned binary image as watermark and embeds it in the wavelet domain through quantization index modulation, which can not only identify the authenticity of the content of digital image, but also recover the tampered image approximately. Because the watermark is a low-resolution original image, which carries the original image information, so the original image is not required when authenticating, and the tampered region can be recovered according to the watermark. The method can tolerate a certain degree of compression distortion or noise. Beside, a secret key is used to select the embedded watermark bits and their embedded positions to increase the security of watermarking. Experimental results show this semi-fragile watermarking algorithm is effective and practical for content authentication. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

In this paper, we present a large scale offline handwritten Chinese character database-HCL2000 which will be made public available for the research community. The database contains 3,755 frequently used simplified Chinese-characters written by 1,000 different subjects. The writerspsila information is incorporated in the database to facilitate testing on grouping writers with different background such as age, occupation, gender, and education etc. We investigate some characteristics of writing styles from different groups of writers. We evaluate HCL2000 database using three different algorithms as a baseline. We decide to publish the database along with this paper and make it free for a research purpose.

Speech recognition result is always evaluated by dynamic programming algorithm which can find the best match between recognized results and references. And the match unit could be word, syllable, phone and so on. However, in mandarin speech recognition, this traditional algorithm is not accurate because of the unique characteristics of Chinese word-formation. In order to improve evaluation performance on Chinese, we proposed a mandarin speech recognition evaluation algorithm based on mixed words. Our experiments show that our proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the false error caused by traditional evaluation algorithm.

Speech recognition systems are usually trained using tremendous transcribed samples, and training data preparation is intensively time-consuming and costly. Aiming at achieving better performance of acoustic model with less transcribed samples, active learning is used in acoustic model training. This learning scheme firstly selects and transcribes a small initial training set, then iteratively selects the most informative samples corresponding to a certain criterion from the unlabeled samples, then annotates them and adds the newly transcribed samples to the training set to update the acoustic model. Concerning that the initial set influences the performance and convergence rate of active learning a lot, we proposed a method for initial set selection based on Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD). Our experiments show that active learning using initial set selected by our proposed method can achieve better performance.

In this paper, we present a special crawler for Internet forums. Different from General Crawler and Focused Crawler, it can get structured information directly get the most valuable web resources by utilizing the least system resources, filter the useless information to the maximum extent and finally supply users with highprecision information. This crawler adopts templatebased processing method which is to use regular expressions to extract structured information. The URL queue is initialized by URLs set in seeds file and valuable URLs are extracted from web pages and added into the queue during the crawling process. Once the time of one post is beyond the specified time span or the web information is unchanged, the crawler can skip it in time to avoid wasting system's resources. Experimental results demonstrate that our crawler can collect real-time forum information more efficiently and precisely than other crawlers.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have promised us a new monitoring and controlling model over the distributed computing environment. Network management in WSNs becomes extremely important and vital in order to keep the whole network and application work properly. This paper summarizes the uniqueness of network management protocol for WSN, provide an overview analysis of several current existed protocols, so as to find out and summarize their advantage and disadvantage, and provide some directions for the future research of network management protocol in WSN.

Weblog is widely used, and the number of users is increasing rapidly. Weblog reflects every aspect of the society, such as politics, economy and culture, so the topic relevance retrieval research on Weblog becomes necessary. Because of a lot of noise in the corpus and it is usually difficult to obtain the appropriate query, the common methods sometimes fail to reach an acceptable precision. We design a Modified Topic Relevance Retrieval system (MTRRS) containing query formulation and a combination model. To design the query, manual adjustment and machine learning are used. During the machine learning processing, we define a center word list which helps to generate a novel distance feature. The result can be improved 22.97% on MAP by query formulation. The results of document retrieval model and passage retrieval model are combined. 33.55% increase on MAP can be received. Also by using the combination model, the retrieval result of the semi-machine learning query is closely approaching the manually adjusted result.

With the popularity of MMS, the multimedia messages which include sensitive information are increasing rapidly. In the paper, a novel framework of a MMS filtering for Chinese sensitive text in image is presented. An effective method is applied to detect and filter sensitive texts in image of multimedia message which could easily be transmitted through the mobile communication network without being monitored at recent stage. The detection and recognition of sensitive text are achieved by using SIFT feature, which is proper to the characteristics of the text in image of multimedia message and get an accurate result. The method has a good practical application value.

Speech recognition systems are usually trained using tremendous transcribed samples, and training data preparation is intensively time-consuming and costly. Aiming at achieving better performance of acoustic model with less transcribed samples, active learning is adopted in acoustic model training to iteratively select the most informative samples corresponding to some sample selection method. And as the key part of active learning, sample selection method decides the performance. However, in active learning for acoustic speech recognition modeling, samples are always selected based on single predictor such as likelihood、posterior probability and so on, which can not overall evaluate the samples. This paper proposes a sample selection method based on support vector machine using combination of several predictors in active learning for acoustic modeling. And our experiments show that active learning using our proposed sample selection method can achieve satisfying performance.

The paper focuses on implementation of association pattern between the network performances and the general network faults. We use network simulation tool, OPNET, to accomplish network simulations of different network faults and different situations based on VoIP. Network performance parameters such as end-to-end delay, jitter, traffic dropped, queuing delay, link throughout, link utilization are monitored and collected. The simulation results are processed using data mining software, Weka, to discover the association pattern.
