In order to solve the problem of image degradation caused by dust environments, an image degradation model considering multiple scattering factors caused by dust was first established using the first-order multiple scattering method. Then, a dark channel prior principle was applied to present an image restoration algorithm based on the image degradation model. Finally, GA optimization algorithm was applied to optimize the atmospheric light and the exposure parameters. This optimization algorithm was established according to the criterion of the image evaluation based on kirsch operator with automatic threshold. By using the method an optimistic result of image restoration was obtained. The experimental results have shown that the method not only enhanced luminance and contrast, but also discovered more detail edges information. The method provided a foundation for target recognition in the dust environments.

Endobronchial intervention is increasingly used as a minimally invasive means for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. In order to reduce the difficulty of manipulation in complex airway networks, robust lumen detection is essential for intraoperative guidance. However, these methods are sensitive to visual artifacts which are inevitable during the surgery. In this work, a cross domain feature interaction (CDFI) network is proposed to extract the structural features of lumens, as well as to provide artifact cues to characterize the visual features. To effectively extract the structural and artifact features, the Quadruple Feature Constraints (QFC) module is designed to constrain the intrinsic connections of samples with various imaging-quality. Furthermore, we design a Guided Feature Fusion (GFF) module to supervise the model for adaptive feature fusion based on different types of artifacts. Results show that the features extracted by the proposed method can preserve the structural information of lumen in the presence of large visual variations, bringing much-improved lumen detection accuracy.

—In clinical practice, electroencephalography (EEG) plays an important role in the diagnosis of epilepsy. EEG-based computer-aided diagnosis of epilepsy can greatly improve the accuracy of epilepsy detection while reducing the workload of physicians. However, there are many challenges in practical applications for personalized epileptic EEG detection (i.e., training of detection model for a specific person), including the difficulty in extracting effective features from one single view, the undesirable but common scenario of lacking sufficient training data in practice, and the no guarantee of identically distributed training and test data. To solve these problems, we propose a TSK fuzzy system-based epilepsy detection algorithm that integrates multi-view collaborative transfer learning. To address the challenge due to the limitation of single-view features, multi-view learning ensures the diversity of features by extracting them from different views. The lack of training data for building a personalized detection model is tackled by leveraging the knowledge from the source domain (reference scene) to enhance the performance of the target domain (current scene of interest), where mismatch of data distributions between the two domains is resolved with adaption technique based on maximum mean discrepancy. Notably, the transfer learning and multi-view feature extraction are performed at the same time. Furthermore, the fuzzy rules of the TSK fuzzy system equip the model with strong fuzzy logic inference capability. Hence, the proposed method has the potential to detect epileptic EEG signals effectively, which is demonstrated with the positive results from a large number of experiments on the CHB-MIT dataset. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

One-shot distributed algorithm for generalized eigenvalue problem

Nowadays, more and more datasets are stored in a distributed way for the sake of memory storage or data privacy. The generalized eigenvalue problem (GEP) plays a vital role in a large family of high-dimensional statistical models. However, the existing distributed method for eigenvalue decomposition cannot be applied in GEP for the divergence of the empirical covariance matrix. Here we propose a general distributed GEP framework with one-shot communication for GEP. If the symmetric data covariance has repeated eigenvalues, e.g., in canonical component analysis, we further modify the method for better convergence. The theoretical analysis on approximation error is conducted and the relation to the divergence of the data covariance, the eigenvalues of the empirical data covariance, and the number of local servers is analyzed. Translatotron-V(ison): An End-to-End Model for In-Image Machine Translation

In-image machine translation (IIMT) aims to translate an image containing texts in source language into an image containing translations in target language. In this regard, conventional cascaded methods suffer from issues such as error propagation, massive parameters, and difficulties in deployment and retaining visual characteristics of the input image. Thus, constructing end-to-end models has become an option, which, however, faces two main challenges: 1) the huge modeling burden, as it is required to simultaneously learn alignment across languages and preserve the visual characteristics of the input image;2) the difficulties of directly predicting excessively lengthy pixel sequences. In this paper, we propose Translatotron-V(ision), an end-to-end IIMT model consisting of four modules. In addition to an image encoder, and an image decoder, our model contains a target text decoder and an image tokenizer. Among them, the target text decoder is used to alleviate the language alignment burden, and the image tokenizer converts long sequences of pixels into shorter sequences of visual tokens, preventing the model from focusing on low-level visual features. Besides, we present a two-stage training framework for our model to assist the model in learning alignment across modalities and languages. Finally, we propose a location-aware evaluation metric called Structure-BLEU to assess the translation quality of the generated images. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves competitive performance compared to cascaded models with only 70.9% of parameters, and significantly outperforms the pixel-level end-to-end IIMT model. This paper introduces the new qualitative and quantitative methods, which can diagnose breast tumors. Qualitative methods include blood vessel display inside and outside of pathological changes part of breast, display of equivalent pixel curves at the part of pathological changes and display of breast tumor image edge. Accordingly, three feature extraction operators are proposed, i.e. the combination operators of anisotropic gradient and smoothing operator, an improved Sobel operator and an edge sharpening operator. Furthermore, quantitative diagnostic approaches are discussed based on blood and oxygen contents according to abundant clinical data and pathological mechanism of breast tumors. The results of clinic show that the methods of combining qualitative and quantitative diagnose are effective for breast tumor images, especially for early and potential breast cancer

Fast Algorithm for Parallel Solving Inversion of Large Scale Small Matrices Based on Gpu

Inverting a matrix is time-consuming, and many works focus on accelerating inverting a single large matrix by GPU. However, the problem of inverting large-scale small matrices has little attention. In this paper, we propose a Revised In-Place Inversion algorithm for inverting large-scale small matrices, which runs on the CUDA platform and utilizes multicore GPUs. The proposed algorithm is well-suited for large-scale-small matrices (dimension $n \leq 32$), which can invert millions of small matrices within tens of milliseconds. In addition, we find there is an upper bound of input data size for each GPU device, the performance will degrade if the input data size is too large. Hence, we improve the proposed method by dividing matrices into batches according to this finding. Experimental results show that this strategy can effectively alleviate the performance degradation for inverting large scale small matrices, and maintain the high-performance execution of the algorithm. © 2022, The Authors. The fuzzy clustering algorithms based on interval type-2 are effective methods for data clustering and image segmentation with some potential advantages in dealing with higher-order uncertainty. However, the fuzzy clustering algorithms based on interval type-2 have limited accuracy in noisy image segmentation. Therefore, we propose a new noisy image segmentation algorithm based on weighted local information for interval type-2 enhanced possibilistic fuzzy C-means clustering. Firstly, a new possibilistic fuzzy weighted local information factor, which amalgamates the mutually guided image filtering, is devised to control the relationship between mutually guided image filtering and the original image utilizing the absolute difference image between the original image and mutually guided image filtering. Additionally, two weighted sum functions are also introduced into the new possibilistic fuzzy weighted local information factor to calculate the greyscale differences between the current pixel and its neighborhood pixels. Secondly, the distance of the objective function is corrected using mutually guided image filtering to obtain the local features and global information of the image. Finally, this paper introduces the new possibilistic fuzzy weighted local information factor into the interval type-2 possibilistic fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm and proposes a new interval type-2 enhanced possibilistic fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm with local information and mutually guided image filtering constraints to improve noisy image segmentation results. Through extensive experiments on noisy synthetic images and noisy real images, the proposed algorithm can achieve higher performance and more accurate segmentation results compared with several existing algorithms. © 2024, The Authors. Local Neighbor Propagation on Graphs for Robust Feature Matching

Establishing reliable correspondences between two sets of feature points is a critical preprocessing step in many computer vision and pattern recognition tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel robust Local Neighbor Propagation on Graphs based feature matching (LNPG) method, to obtain good correspondences for feature matching. LNPG starts from a novel neighborhood graph construction strategy. The strategy leverages the spatial consistency constraint to generate a series of neighborhood sets, and employs the residual information to preserve the local neighborhood relationships of potential inliers (i.e., true matches). Subsequently, LNPG incorporates local neighbor propagation into the graph to enhance connections between data in different neighborhoods, by using the path-based similarity measurement and the adaptive graph partition. In addition, LNPG includes a novel consistency-filtering-based clustering algorithm for robust feature matching. This clustering algorithm introduces a reliable neighborhood consistency measure function and an effective cluster merging criterion for cluster detection and cluster merging during the clustering process, respectively. Overall, LNPG not only effectively distinguishes inliers from outliers, but also reliably classifies inliers into different transformation models between pairs of images. Experiments on publicly available datasets with different types of image transformations show the superiority of our LNPG in comparison with other state-of-the-art methods. © 2023, The Authors. Boosting discriminative model for moving cast shadow detection

Moving cast shadow causes serious problem while segmenting and extracting foreground from image sequences, due to the misclassification of moving shadow as foreground. This paper proposes a Boosting discriminative model to eliminate cast shadow on Discriminative Random Fields (DRFs). The method combines different features for Boosting to discriminate cast shadow from moving objects, then temporal and spatial coherence of shadow and foreground are incorporated on Discriminative Random Fields and the problem can be solved by graph cut. Firstly, moving objects are obtained by background subtraction;secondly, shadow candidates can be derived through pre-processing moving objects, in terms of the shadow physical property;thirdly, color information and texture information is derived by comparing shadow and foreground points in current image with corresponding points in background image, which are selected as features for Boosting;finally, temporal and spatial coherence of shadow and foreground is employed on Discriminative Random Fields and discriminate shadow and foreground by graph cut accurately.
