This paper proposes a self-organizing deep belief network with robust locally weighted scatterplot smoothing method (R-SDBN) for short-term load forecasting, which can not only organize the structure of short-term load forecasting automatically but also denoise the input load data. The deep belief network (DBN) integrates deep learning and feature learning. It can quickly analyze a large number of data and has a strong data fitting ability. And the robust locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (RLWSS) method is introduced to weaken the noise and correct the outlies of load data. However, the optimal structure of DBN and the optimal span of RLWSS are different given specific applications. In the proposed model, the structure of DBN and the span of RLWSS are selforganized with minimum root mean square error as objective, not selected by experience, during the training process, and they are modified after each forecasting. Taking the actual load of a certain city in China as an example, the root mean square error (RMSE), the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and the maximum absolute error (MAE) of the 24hour forecasting is 4.38MW, 6.54%, and 12.48MW respectively. Compared with the backward propagation neural network, support vector machine (SVM), and DBN, R-SDBN has remarkable advantages. © 2019 IEEE.

In order to facilitate performance research and control strategy formulation, Elman neural network is used to predict heat transfer coefficient of heat pump, which is convenient for dynamic modeling of PV/t-sahp system. The accuracy of the prediction model was verified by selecting typical sunny and cloudy days. The experimental results show that the maximum relative errors of the predicted values in sunny and cloudy weather are 5.4% and 7.2% respectively. The mean relative errors were 2.57% and 2.69%, respectively. The results show that the prediction model of Elman neural network proposed in this paper is more accurate and can better simulate the actual operation, which can provide technical support for the follow-up research. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

When resonant grounding occurs, the fault components of the line are complex, and components with different properties cancel out or compensate each other, weakening the fault characteristics and easily making it difficult to select the grounding fault line. Considering the reality of line measurement channels, this paper utilizes an underdetermined blind source separation algorithm to separate the steady-state component, transient component, and noise of faults from the measurement signal. Using the high-order moments of each component of the zero-sequence current of the line as the criterion, accurate line selection of single-phase grounding faults can be achieved. Compared with Prony, HHT, and FFT methods, the method proposed in this paper has certain advantages. The simulation and on-site experimental results show that the accuracy of the method in line selection is all correct, and it has certain anti-interference ability.

In order to reduce the impact of lightning current on transmission tower and substation, and enhance the efficient transmission of electricity in the 110 kV transmission line, this paper introduces a new type of lightning protection device, called supersonic airflow injector (SAI). This paper first analyzes the lightning current attenuation mechanism of SAI. Then simulated the lightning current discharge process in SAI by COMSOL Multiphysics. Simulation shows that the pressure in the tube of SAI can quickly reach 3.05×106Pa, and the temperature in the tube can reach >6000 K. Finally, SAI has an attenuation and weakening effect on the high current is tested by high current test. The current amplitude decayed from 68.18kA to 34.96kA under SAI. The wave-head steepness decays from 17.76kA/μs to 4.72kA/μs. The simulation and test results show that SAI can effectively attenuate the lightning current, which is beneficial to the stable operation of 110 kV transmission line. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

In this paper, nonlinear control combined with the terminal angular velocity mode separation strategy of STATCOM is proposed. Based on the nonlinear principle, a group of multi-objective functions including the concerned state variables is found. The dynamic and static performance of the control target is dynamically tracked and constrained in combination with the secondary performance index, thus forming a closed-loop control system that can quickly reflect the changes of the active and reactive power of the system. In order to suppress the subsynchronous torsional component at the fixed modal frequency, the angular velocity mode separation of generator is introduced. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified by PSCAD electromagnetic transient simulation platform. © 2020 IEEE.

With rapidly developing of the distribution networks the rate of the earth fault increases sharply. Aiming to fault location for distribution networks, many techniques are proposed and applied in distribution networks throughout the world. However, until now the technology for precise fault point location has not been successfully implemented in engineering practice. Traveling wave based methods as common techniques are widely applied in transmission line protection for locating fault point. However, these methods face severe challenge in fault location for distribution networks. The main reason is that the intermittent arc fault easily results in failure of detecting inceptive travelling wave and this intermittent arc is a common earth fault in distribution networks compared with transmission networks. In this paper, a simplified distribution line is built by making reference to the two parallel lossless transmission lines system. Then, the intermittent arc effects on traveling wave based method are modeled and discussed. Finally, the reason why these travelling wave based methods are hard to locate fault point precisely is illustrated. Copyright © 2020 Xiaoxin Liu, et al. Many methods are available to analyze the process of the travelling-wave propagation. Among these methods, the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method has a distinct advantage in calculating dynamic process of the travelling wave propagation in the time domain and is thus applied to the field of power system protection for researching transient fault induced travelling-wave propagation. The novelty of this paper is that the attenuation law of the traveling wave signal affected by the fork junction in the multi-branch distribution network is summarized and the cause of failure in the fault location based on the incipient travelling wave front method in distribution networks is found. © 2020 Minqiang Li, et al.

Combining PV power generation and industrial parks and using hybrid energy storage to smooth out fluctuations in PV industrial parks is an effective way to improve the level of PV power consumption, reduce energy consumption and pollution in industrial parks, and lower the cost of power purchase before industrial parks. In this paper, we propose a real-time control strategy to smooth out the fluctuation of PV industrial park by using hybrid energy storage system, which optimally allocates the load fluctuation to energy-based energy storage and power-based energy storage based on variational modal decomposition (VMD), and considers the charging and discharging efficiency and state of charge (SOC) of energy storage to smooth out the fluctuation of PV industrial park. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed real-time control strategy of hybrid energy storage for PV industrial park fluctuation smoothing is verified by simulation, and the strategy is evaluated economically based on the current spot market in Guangdong.

The BLT equation as the foundation of electromagnetic topology has an advantage in calculation of complex systems, particularly ring and multi-branch networks and is thus widely applied in EMC and EMI fields. In this paper the BLT equation was introduced to the fields of distribution network protection for analyzing the earth fault signal response on each junction of the multi-branch distribution network. The BLT equation was derived and the scattering matrices were determined for the multi-branch distribution network. The voltage responses of earth fault signal on each junction in the time and frequency domain were analyzed. Finally, some conclusions which are benefit for researching and improving the travelling wave-based method were given. © 2020 IEEE.

Laws of traveling wave data related to fault location for medium voltage distribution network are discussed and summarized. Given the tree structure of a distribution network, an image of nodes voltage is created combining the use of real-time traveling wave meters at all nodes of the tree. The novelty of this paper is that travelling wavefront are analyzed based on the dynamic changes of these images. Based on principle of the traditional fault location with traveling wave-based method for transmission networks, traveling wave data of fault location for medium voltage distribution networks are plotted in order to estimate propagation velocity and distance between the fault position and the reference node. The results indicate that taking advantage of the laws of data related to first wave front can improve the reliability of the fault location for medium voltage networks.
