Condition-based maintenance is an advanced maintenance strategy which is based on the monitoring of equipments status and according to the results of monitoring and analysis people can arrange maintenance scientifically. When monitoring and analyzing the status of equipments, there are vast historical and on-line data to analyze. If we can find the main factors leading to equipment failure through analyzing the data and pay more attention to these factors, we can make maintenance decision more exactly and quickly. In this paper we propose to apply ID3 algorithm to classify the data according to the importance of their influence to equipment failure and then find the factors which influence equipments most. After finding the most important factors, apply Monte Carlo simulation to forecast the probability of equipment failure which occurs in their operational life span, and according to this we can pay more attention to monitor the factors which result in failure easily

With increasing attention to sustainable development and environmental protection, more and more countries turn to wind energy to reduce their dependence on traditional fossil fuel energy. Among the new challenges with this trend is how to integrate wind farm with existing AC network more effectively. The paper presents a possible measure based on VSC-HVDC, namely so-called wind farm incorporated VSC-HVDC (WVSC-HVDC). In the paper the wind farm along with an AC grid supplies to a passive network. The paper firstly introduces VSC-HVDC, and then presents a space vector based control strategy for supplying to a passive network. The rectifier controls DC voltage and reactive power that is needed by the wind farm. The inverter controls the AC bus voltage in the passive network. Simulations using PSCAD/EMTDC are performed to study the steady and transient behaviors of WVSC-HVDC. With harmonics analysis, the simulation results will be helpful for further understanding of the operation characteristics of WVSC-HVDC and its protection design

It is very important and necessary to calculate total transfer capability (TTC) incorporating flexible alternate current transmission system (FACTS) devices in power markets and analyze impacts of FACTS on TTC. Calculating TTC incorporating with FACTS devices is an optimal problem constrained by some equalities and inequalities. This paper proposes a mathematical model for calculating TTC incorporating with FACTS devices in power markets, and detailed calculation method is also put forward. The constraints include voltage constraints, thermal stability limits, generator's capacity limits, load demand, steady-state power flow, and control parameter constraints of FACTS devices, etc. The sensitivity-based repetitive linear iterative approach is proposed to solve the proposed model. The detailed solution process is described in this paper. To realize the proposed model and calculation method, a TTC calculation software incorporating with FACTS devices is developed based on PSASP/UPI, a set of advanced application software package developed by China Electric power Research Institute. This paper proposes a new approach on combined TTC solution including FACTS and power flow calculation based on PSASP/UPI, and gives the interface program for user programming interface (UPI) in PSASP. The IEEE 14-bus test system is used to verify the proposed algorithm and program. Numerical results show that FACTS devices and their locations have different impacts on TTC, also prove that the proposed model and algorithm is correct and effective

Detecting single-phase-to-ground fault is a difficult and challenging problem in the non-solidly grounded system that includes neutral point ungrounded, neutral point high-resistance grounded and neutral point compensated extinction coil grounded system. It is important to identify the faulted line quickly and exactly to reduce the time and effort necessary to locate and remove the fault, so that the probability of a second ground fault with its destructive currents can be reduced significantly. Based on analyzing the characteristics of the existing methods about identifying the faulted line in the non-solidly grounded system, the characteristics of the lines' zero-sequence current and the system's zero-sequence voltage and the relationship between every line's zero-sequence current and the system's zero-sequence voltage are analyzed deeply and a new method using similitude power to determine the faulted line is presented. The method can be applied to neutral point ungrounded system and neutral point ineffective grounded system to determine the faulted line accurately when resistance ground faults occur. Various ground faults under different conditions are simulated using MATLAB. The results show the method is feasible and effective

Along with the increment of disturbing loads in the power system, the effect on network that is brought by the power quality problems, become increasingly serious. Based on the market bargaining principles, the power price should be affected by the disturbance of loads. However current power price system fails to reflect the factor. Evaluation of load's disturbing property and analysis of its influence to power price is performed in this paper. The load current can be decomposed into three parts: instantaneous active current, instantaneous fundamental reactive current and instantaneous distorted current by the generalized instantaneous reactive power theory in dq0 coordinate system. The reactive current emission factor reflecting pure resistance of load and distorted current emission factor reflecting load's linearity are defined. According to these two factors, the evaluation method of the effect of the disturbing load on the power price based on allocating compensation equipment's cost is presented. The method provides some basis for contract's subscribing in the future. The calculated example shows the feasibility of above method, as well the degree of the influence of the disturbing load upon the power price

Monitoring the partial discharge (PD) on site in cables accessories is now a more effective method of cable tests. Meaningful PD measurement can obtain reliable information on the condition of sealing ends and joints after installation or several years of operation which can contribute to considerable overall reduction of error risk. The UHF (ultra high frequency) method is an effective PD detection method. It shows out the superiority in measurement sensitivity and suppressing interference. It has been confirmed that the frequency of the PD pulse generated in cables can reach up to GHz, while the frequency of background noise usually lies below 400 MHz. Experiments show that the UHF PD pulse can radiate from the disconnection between the shields in the sealing ends or the joints, and it can also radiate out along the ground wire or the cross-linked wire. Moreover, the detection by UHF sensor towards four different types of PD models have been done in laboratory, such as sliding discharge model, floating discharge model, protrusion discharge model and cavity discharge model. Mass of statistic results of these PD pulses indicate the distinct characteristics. It can help to do the pattern recognition research, even to do further research on fault diagnosis for XLPE cables.

Based on the characteristics of TCSC, the influence of TCSC on fault component distance protection is analyzed. With the new setting resistance to be Z Zd -jX C , the action of fault component distance protection on the line equipped with TCSC is presented. It is concluded that the fault component distance protection will not act incorrectly, but the range of protection will be reduced, especially when the TCSC is bypassed

The flywheel energy storage (FES) system presented in this paper is composed of four parts: the flywheel, the bearing, the motor/generator and the power converter. The control methods and strategy of the FES system in power network are introduced in detail. During the storage period and generating times, the waveform of the power converter output currents is controlled to be sinusoidal by using sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) control method, so the efficiency of the energy conversion is high and the torque ripple of the motor/generator is minimized. The control methods of starting and operating large moment of inertia of the flywheel are simulated and studied for the power converter. The latest experimental results of the FES system are introduced, and the control validity is verified through these results.

High current of HVDC grounding electrode will induce a high potential in the nearby substation ground grid if the soil resistivity is high. Once there are potential differences among the ground grids, direct current will flow through the neutral grounded transformer. If the direct current through transformer winding is high enough core saturation will occur. The paper presented a method of series of additional resistance between the transformer neutral point and ground grid from the point of view of network configuration. A novel optimized algorithm is adopted in order to calculate the grounding resistance. Method presented in the paper is tested with China South Grid data. Results show that current through transformer neutral point can be reduced greatly and thus core saturation can be avoided

Voltage problems can be effectively solved by series compensators coupled with series injection transformers. However, the magnetic flux in iron core of series transformer may change in a large range depending on the close angle of injecting voltage, at the same time iron core easily get over saturated. Over saturation in transformer iron core leads to produce large field inrush current and distortion on compensating voltage wave, bring about hazard to operation of transformer and inverter, also increase the possibility of relay mishandling and finally decrease reliability of power supply. This paper analyzes the over saturation mechanism of series injection transformer and presents a novel harmonics injection control approach to suppress. The validity of proposed approach is verified by calculation and simulation
