The estimation of operating reserve to guarantee the system security and economic operation is an important task in power system operation. With the rapid increase of wind power installation and its large scale integration into power systems, the uncertainty of wind power should be considered in operating reserve estimation. This paper discusses the risk from wind power forecast error and introduces the idea of wind power at risk. The total risk due to wind power forecast error is studied from two different aspects, and two sets of indices are proposed. Credibility theory is applied to get the comprehensive index which is used to estimate operating reserve. Numerical tests are done to compare the proposed approach with others. The results show that the proposed approach can give more economic operating reserve estimation without loss of system security, which may be a reference for the power systems with large scale intermittent generation to estimate operating reserve. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, concerning the limitations of this method which can not meet the current needs of the development of large-scale power system, a new electromechanical transient simulation model based on dynamic equivalent is proposed. It develop a new vision for the electromechanical transient and electromagnetic transient hybrid simulation, which presents the application of dynamic hybrid simulation equivalent in hybrid simulation. Two cases are studied, electromechanical Simulation of IEEE14 nodes system, and hybrid simulation of electromagnetic transient and electromechanical transient on RTDS was developed, in the condition that the electro-magnetic transient part is an actual DC system. The simulation results show that dynamic equivalence presented in the paper is valid and effective. On this basis, hybrid simulation based on dynamic equivalence is realized, thereby expanding the simulation size of AC system. © 2010 IEEE.

More and more IEDs have been commissioned in power systems, such as digital relays, PMUs, metering and control devices, fault recorders and so on. Once there is a disturbance (for example, fault, low-frequency oscillation, etc.), large amount of information will pour into the control center. Therefore, how to identify the disturbance and then take corresponding countermeasures is crucial for power system security and reliability. A multi-layer disturbance processing system based on multiple information sources is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the characteristics of different kinds of information sources, including PMUs, RTUs, digital relays and fault recorders, are analyzed. Secondly, according to the arrival times of the information, the framework and functions of multi-layer fault diagnosis system is presented in detail. After a disturbance occurs, the suggested system could realize disturbance identification, fault element diagnosis and detailed post-fault analysis in succession at different time frames with the information coming, which fits the needs of operators well. © 2007 IEEE.

It has been well recognized that the load model has great effects on the power system analysis and control. However, it is also widely known that the load modeling is a quite difficult problem due to its special properties such as time-variant characteristics of the load. In this paper, the measurement-based load modeling approach and multi-curve identification technique are applied in Hushitai power station in Northeast China. In order to build practical load models that can describe the actual load characteristics without changing the model parameters too often, cluster analysis is used to classify the loads. Two main kinds of eigenvectors used in cluster analysis are also compared. Finally, based on the load classification, a new aggregation method is proposed to build load models with good generalization capability. Case studies show the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2008 DRPT.

In the control of the wind generation, the maximal power point tracking (MPPT) control plays important role in the efficiency. This paper presents the simulation results of the MPPT control with RTDS-based PMSG model. At first, it analyzes the vector-control scheme for the MTTP, which results in independent control of active and reactive power of the generator. And then, it develops the MPPT controller implemented on the rectifier and inverter based on PI control strategic. Furthermore, it builds the PMSG model based on the RTDS with the corresponding technology. And the simulation result with the proposed model verified the control strategy. © 2010 IEEE.

The performance of HVDC system depends on the parameters of control system, and usually PI controllers have been used to adjust system to fulfill desired objectives. However, the optimization methods for PI controllers' parameters of HVDC system are very few up to now. And when the optimization task comes to RTDS, it becomes more complex. This paper introduces the Simplex Algorithm and its application in real time simulation (RTDS). The system objective functions are adopted to optimize the PI parameters of constant current (CC) control at the rectifier and the extinction-angle control at the inverter for Three Gorges-Shanghai ±500 kV DC Transmission Project on the basis of the control strategy. After the optimization process was finished, the performance of the PI controller with the optimized parameters was compared with that of the PI controller with the initial parameters. The step responses of those two PI controllers were presented by figures. And it shows that the controller with the optimized parameters has strong robustness. © 2010 IEEE.

With the development of electricity demand side market, large consumers have more electricity purchase choices, in the same time have to face the risk of electricity price fluctuation on different markets. In order to measure and hedge the risk reasonably, this paper introduces information entropy as the measure to risk in electricity purchase, by aid of fuzzy optimization, linear membership function is adopted and the optimal electricity purchasing portfolio model is established according to the given expected target and tolerance. Test results show that information entropy can overcome lots of shortages in the method that adopts variance as risk measure;the electricity purchase strategy given by fuzzy optimization has good consideration both on price and risk. ©2009 IEEE.

The constituent of Capacitive Voltage Transformer (CVT) are almost capacitances in primary side, and they act essentially as a short circuit to the transient current produced by a switching operation, which will generate high grounding current. Because capacitance is lumped parameter, so this paper use Finite-Difference Time Domain method (FDTD) to build calculation formula of Multi-Conductor Transmission Lines (MTL) whose branch points has lumped parameter network. Based on the formula, the grounding current through CVT produced by substation switching operation has been calculated. The calculation results of this paper are anastomotic with the simulation based on EMTP. It has certain consult meaning for the research of substation electromagnetic interference (EMI) on primary and secondary equipments. © 2006 IEEE.

Along with consuming of fossil energy step by step, crisis of energy has been appeared. The solar energy, which is endless, is a kind of renewable energy. Radiation of sun coming to earth in a day is equal to the energy, which is released by trillion buckets of oil. The research of solar energy generation has stepped into a very activity period. This paper analyses the physics characteristic of photovoltaic array firstly, then researches the mathematical model applying in engineering, and designs the total simulation model based on power electronic circuit in the end. In order to validate the correctness and validity, this paper makes a simulation as an example. The scheme can express the V-I characteristic of photovoltaic array very well. © 2009 IEEE.

Simulation assessment of error and veracity is the precondition in power system dynamic simulation validation that is directly related to power system stability. Own to the applications of Wide Area Measurement system (WAMS) that could provide synchronous measured information of power grid, it is possible to assess dynamic simulation. Based on the principles of similarity theory and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), this paper proposes general assessment method on amplitude similarity degree of simulation and its relative error criterion by analyzing the characteristics of power system dynamic stability and variables. This method could not only systematically reflect the similarity degree of whole system and every time period, but also provide objective quantitative information and reference for further model validation and parameter correction. A case study is presented to verify the proposed method on the basis of the measured data from WAMS of certain power grid. © 2006 IEEE.
