Novel decentralized approach through optimal resource allocation for congestion management

The paper proposed a novel decentralized approach for congestion management via Optimal Resource Allocation (ORA) for the forward markets. The available capacities of possible congested transmission lines are considered as commonly shared resources for bilateral and multilateral transactions in the market. Each transaction maximizes its profit using limited capacity of transmission line allocated by the ISO. Through the proposed decentralized optimization algorithms, the ISO searches the optimal allocation of the capacities of congested transmission lines to the individual transactions and finally the same market efficiency (social welfare) as centralized optimization is achieved. This decentralized approach is more suitable for power market environment since it does not require private and sensitive information submission from individual transactions to the ISO and the resource allocation decision is always feasible during iterations. The mathematical model, calculation procedure and relevant proof are presented. The computer test results from the IEEE 30 bus system show clearly the effectiveness of the approach and its consistency with the centralized optimization.

This paper focuses on the research on the DC bias due to magnetic storm and HVDC. In the paper, we introduce the DC bias problem of Jiangsu Yang-Huai transmit electric system and Southern power Grids, discuss the harmful effect of the transformer DC bias and the significance of research, and analyze the compensation, weakening and elimination of transformer bias current. Finally, the problems that should be paid attention to and some corresponding suggestions are proposed. © 2005 IEEE.

Harmonic pollution and reactive power compensation are the important power quality problems. This paper proposes a combined power filter system consisting of the parallel operation of a hybrid active power filter (HAPF) and the passive power filters or capacitors. The HAPF is formed by a single tuned LC filter per phase and a small-rated three-phase active filter, which are directly connected in series. The characteristics of the combined system and the harmonic current detection method using the combination of load current and the mains current are analyzed and simulated. The simulation results show that good filter performance can be obtained by the combined system. Experimental results from a 100kVA/380V hardware prototype parallel operation with capacitors are presented to conform the validity and effectiveness of the combined system. © 2005 IEEE.

The multi-objective fuzzy optimal method based on the fuzzified optimal solutions of single objectives need not list all non-inferior solution sets, which can optimize directly objectives in value area of variables. This method can reflect the interrelation between individual objective optimal solutions and multi-objective optimal solution. On the basis of fundamental principle of multi-objective fuzzy optimization and genetic algorithm, combing with the concept of objective relative subject degree, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization approach for the hydroelectric power system with contradictory objectives. The proposal method considers the satisfied degree of various characters and contradictory objectives and seeks an appropriate optimized solution to make each objective optimal as possible considering each objective comprehensively. The simulation results of example show that the fuzzy genetic algorithm is an effective method for multi-objective optimization problem in the cascaded hydroelectric plants. © 2005 IEEE.

A new method, which integrates the virtue of the probability and mathematical statistics with that of the fuzzy mathematics for power quality assessment, is proposed in this paper. The index showing an aspect of power quality is evaluated using probability and mathematical statistics respectively;the global unique index of these indexes can be obtained. The results obtained from each index unified are unified again using fuzzy synthetic appraisal in order to give an objective, overall and unique index of power quality. The special assessment method for voltage sag using the Average Sag Energy Index is also discussed. Finally, a transaction mode makes the maximum benefits for different unit commitment as objective function and takes the power quality into account is presented, and then power energy really becomes a commodity which would be evaluated a price according to power quality. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents an identification method based on the iterative Prony to identify transfer function and configure PSS parameters using residue way. The iterative Prony is a very useful method to acquire power system oscillation modes, by which the system eigenvalue, oscillation frequency, amplitude, damping and relative phase can be directly estimated using the response of given input signals. Considering the influence of input signal on output signal, the iterative Prony can acquire the transfer function of power system, then, according to the corresponding residues we conducted coordinated setting of power system stabilizer (PSS) by residue method. The simulation results for two testing system examples prove that this proposal method is effective in the power system oscillation mode analysis and parameters determination of PSS, can improve eigenvalues of system and can enhance system damping after PSSs whose parameters are optimized by above method are built into power system. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents a theoretically analytical technique for determining the spectral components of high-power multilevel voltage source converters. The technique uses Double Fourier Series to analyze the output waveform of multilevel asynchronous asymmetrical regular sampling SVPWM converter. The 3-D spectrum representation of the SVPWM based on the extension geometrical-wall- model is given in this article. According to the analytical method of two-level SVPWM and the phase-shifted carrier PWM, the new DFS of multilevel SVPWM of single phase is obtained. In order to validate the theoretically analytical method, a six modules cascaded H-bridge converter model using PSCAD is built. By comparing the spectrum and waveform calculated with the simulation, the correctness of the analytical formulas has been proved. And the technique can act as the method of selection PWM. Moreover, the technique can be used to analyze the output waveform of the high-voltage and high-power FACTS equipments, such as SVG, SSSC, UPQC. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents a new non-unit voltage protection algorithm for extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines. This scheme Is developed using wavelet analysis, in which the singularity of fault transient voltage signals in one terminal Is utilized to discriminate clearly between Internal and external faults. Lipschltz Exponent (LE) Is obtained from wavelet modulus maximum to detect singularity of signals. A typical 500-kV EHV transmission system has been simulated by ATP to evaluate the scheme. The simulation results show that this scheme is capable of providing correct responses under various system configurations and fault conditions. © 2005 IEEE.

Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based HVDC (VSC-HVDC) technology is a kind of newly developed HVDC transmission technology. Based on analyzing the fundamental functions of VSC-HVDC, a dynamic mathematic model based on energy conservation principle is developed in this paper. The process of energy conversion and dynamic operation mechanism are analyzed. Theoretical analysis and the control system are validated by simulation on software PSCAD/EMTDC. © 2005 IEEE.

A new data-mining method for assessment of the ability of bidding units is proposed in this paper. The algorithm of reducing attribute value is introduced to get minimum rules. An example which considers the various factors is illustrated the procedure of finding association among many factors and then obtained the rules to assess bidding units ability. The rules are very useful in supporting the generating bidding unit to make decisions and helping the electric agency (power eXchange -PX) and (Independent system Operator- ISO) to design an optimal trade plans. © 2005 IEEE.
