Based on the precise time-integration method and the models of power system, a fast and simple simulation method for power system transient stability is discussed in this paper. This method has its advantages such as the numerical stability and programming simplicity. The techniques of factorization and sparse matrix are used in this method. The computer simulations on a real-life system prove the effectiveness of this method.

This paper puts forward a novel topology of controllable reactor, the structure is based on many small capacity thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) modules and a three-windings transformer connecting to system. The transformer secondary adopts duplex winding structure and each has multi-bank TCR modules being in delta connection. In this topology, the harmonic current injected into the power system is very small. It not only possesses all the functions a traditional TCR has, but also has many other merits such as occupying small floor space, generating little loss, easy implement control and protection scheme, and high reliability etc. A 500kvar industrial prototype is under construction in Langfang, Hebei province of ***. Digital simulation based on EMTDC/PSCAD and field test were carried out to verify the perfect harmonics characteristics of topology proposed. © 2005 IEEE.

Novel decentralized approach through optimal resource allocation for congestion management

The paper proposed a novel decentralized approach for congestion management via Optimal Resource Allocation (ORA) for the forward markets. The available capacities of possible congested transmission lines are considered as commonly shared resources for bilateral and multilateral transactions in the market. Each transaction maximizes its profit using limited capacity of transmission line allocated by the ISO. Through the proposed decentralized optimization algorithms, the ISO searches the optimal allocation of the capacities of congested transmission lines to the individual transactions and finally the same market efficiency (social welfare) as centralized optimization is achieved. This decentralized approach is more suitable for power market environment since it does not require private and sensitive information submission from individual transactions to the ISO and the resource allocation decision is always feasible during iterations. The mathematical model, calculation procedure and relevant proof are presented. The computer test results from the IEEE 30 bus system show clearly the effectiveness of the approach and its consistency with the centralized optimization.

The paper studies a practical project of 2MVA dynamic Voltage Restorer on the basis of transformer-less cascade multilevel topology, it discusses each part working principle of DVR, but also provides a practical voltage sag problem solving scheme for a 6kV feed line based on proposed cascade structure. EMTDC/PSCAD based simulation results verify the validity of proposed scheme. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents a new approach for Environmental/Economic transaction planning model of the electricity market. The Environmental/Economic transaction planning problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimal power flow (MOPF) problem. A novel algorithm using multiobjective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and non-stationary multi-stage assignment penalty function is proposed to solve this problem. PSO is modified by using dynamic neighborhood strategy, new particle memory updating, and one-dimension optimization to deal with multiple objectives. Incorporating of non-stationary multi-stage assignment penalty function in solving OPF problem can improve the convergence. The proposed method is demonstrated on the IEEE 30-bus system. The results show that the proposed approach can efficiently gain multiple pareto optimal transaction planning that match with the sustainable development strategy. © 2000 IEEE.

The multi-objective fuzzy optimal method based on the fuzzified optimal solutions of single objectives need not list all non-inferior solution sets, which can optimize directly objectives in value area of variables. This method can reflect the interrelation between individual objective optimal solutions and multi-objective optimal solution. On the basis of fundamental principle of multi-objective fuzzy optimization and genetic algorithm, combing with the concept of objective relative subject degree, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization approach for the hydroelectric power system with contradictory objectives. The proposal method considers the satisfied degree of various characters and contradictory objectives and seeks an appropriate optimized solution to make each objective optimal as possible considering each objective comprehensively. The simulation results of example show that the fuzzy genetic algorithm is an effective method for multi-objective optimization problem in the cascaded hydroelectric plants. © 2005 IEEE.

Harmonic pollution and reactive power compensation are the important power quality problems. This paper proposes a combined power filter system consisting of the parallel operation of a hybrid active power filter (HAPF) and the passive power filters or capacitors. The HAPF is formed by a single tuned LC filter per phase and a small-rated three-phase active filter, which are directly connected in series. The characteristics of the combined system and the harmonic current detection method using the combination of load current and the mains current are analyzed and simulated. The simulation results show that good filter performance can be obtained by the combined system. Experimental results from a 100kVA/380V hardware prototype parallel operation with capacitors are presented to conform the validity and effectiveness of the combined system. © 2005 IEEE.

A new method, which integrates the virtue of the probability and mathematical statistics with that of the fuzzy mathematics for power quality assessment, is proposed in this paper. The index showing an aspect of power quality is evaluated using probability and mathematical statistics respectively;the global unique index of these indexes can be obtained. The results obtained from each index unified are unified again using fuzzy synthetic appraisal in order to give an objective, overall and unique index of power quality. The special assessment method for voltage sag using the Average Sag Energy Index is also discussed. Finally, a transaction mode makes the maximum benefits for different unit commitment as objective function and takes the power quality into account is presented, and then power energy really becomes a commodity which would be evaluated a price according to power quality. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents a theoretically analytical technique for determining the spectral components of high-power multilevel voltage source converters. The technique uses Double Fourier Series to analyze the output waveform of multilevel asynchronous asymmetrical regular sampling SVPWM converter. The 3-D spectrum representation of the SVPWM based on the extension geometrical-wall- model is given in this article. According to the analytical method of two-level SVPWM and the phase-shifted carrier PWM, the new DFS of multilevel SVPWM of single phase is obtained. In order to validate the theoretically analytical method, a six modules cascaded H-bridge converter model using PSCAD is built. By comparing the spectrum and waveform calculated with the simulation, the correctness of the analytical formulas has been proved. And the technique can act as the method of selection PWM. Moreover, the technique can be used to analyze the output waveform of the high-voltage and high-power FACTS equipments, such as SVG, SSSC, UPQC. © 2005 IEEE.
