Based on mathematical morphology and grille fractal, a novel approach on power quality disturbance detection and location is presented in this paper. At first a parallel composite morphological filter with multiple-structure elements is designed to filter the random noise and impulse noise in power quality disturbance signals. Then to the filtered curves, an easy implementation criterion for singularity detection based on the change regularity of grille fractal is proposed to locate the start and end time that disturbance occurs. The voltage sag, swell, harmonic and their combined disturbances are used to verify the validity of the proposed filter-location approach. Numerical results show that the proposed approach is valid and effective

Short-term load forecasting of power system is not only the basis of scheduling of generating sets, but also the basis of working out the transaction schedule in electricity market. This paper proposes a short-term load forecasting method based on combination of radial basis function (RBF) neural network and fuzzy control, uses on-line self-modify factor fuzzy control to eliminate forecast error on the basis of RBF neural network forecasting. The practical examples show that the accuracy of short-term load forecasting and training speed can be improved and gains the very satisfactory results by the proposed method

A ion migration testing for DC ceramic support insulators was designed and conducted in this paper. After the long-term ion migration testing, the change of Na + distribution in the tested samples was analyzed, and the mechanical performance of the tested samples was verified. It is indicated from our results that the ion migration testing in our laboratory doesn't influence the mechanical performance for the ceramic support insulators

A novel method is put forward, which the power meter can be read based on compute vision, and the architecture of remote meter auto reading system is designed. Different with the normal automatic meter reading system that must obtain the value from digital communication interface, the new method recognizes the meter reading utilizing the computer vision technique, it is a kind of non-contact measurement. In the meter automatic reading, the computer vision discrimination, incorporate human's ability of visual and apprehensive models. Not only the digital display power meter can be read, but also the direct-reading instrument can be fetched. In this paper, the scheme of remote automatic reading is introduced, the local meter reading information of distributed substation can be transmitted to center using computer network and then the pretreatment, segmentation and pattern matching, are detailed description in the meter image recognition process. Via energy meter automatic recognition experiment, the results based computer vision is accurate enough to monitor the remote substation running parameters

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) on secondary dc cable in cable tunnel due to a direct lightning strike in substation threatens the safe operation of electronic equipment and system connected to the cable. In order to reduce EMI, the cable shield is generally connected to the grounding grid at both ends. Ground potential difference between two grounding points of the cable shield can be high due to high impedance of the grounding grid at high frequencies. In this paper, we present a hybrid method to analyze this complex system. As a result, both the current flowing in the cable shield and the transverse voltage between the cable core and shield are calculated. Compared with the measured results, the proposed method is demonstrated to be correct and effective. © 2006 IEEE.

An improved subcell model is presented for including thin material sheets method in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. This improved subcell can be used to simulate a thin magnetic (μs ≠ μo) sheet. Then, the improved subcell model is applied to the analysis of the shielding effectiveness (SE) of the electromagnetic wave propagating through a thin infinite material sheet, which is verified by comparison with the analytical results. Updated equations for components of the field on special spatial grids which are on edges and corners of the enclosure are presented, and the subcell model is used for the analysis of a thin-walled enclosure with an aperture. The FDTD results are in very good agreement with the test results. © 2006 IEEE.

This improved subcell model can simulate thin multilayer material sheets and was verified by comparison with the analytical results for the analysis of shielding effectiveness (SE) of the electromagnetic wave through a thin multilayer sheet. Then, the subcell model was used for the analysis of SE of a multilayer thin-walled enclosure with an aperture. The FDTD results were in very good agreement with the test results. Finally, the electromagnetic wave penetration through a wall of an enclosure and the electromagnetic wave coupling through an aperture of enclosure were compared. © 2006 IEEE.

TheAsiaInformationRetrievalSymposium(AIRS)wasestablishedbytheAsian information retrieval community after the successful series of Information - trieval with Asian Languages (IRAL) workshops held in six di?erent locations in Asia, starting from 1996. While the IRAL workshops had their focus on inf- mation retrieval problems involving Asian languages, AIRS covers a wider scope of applications, systems, technologies and theory aspects of information retrieval in text, audio, image, video and multimedia data. This extension of the scope re?ects and fosters increasing research activities in information retrieval in this region and the growing need for collaborations across subdisciplines. We are very pleased to report that we saw a sharp increase in the number of submissions and their quality, compared to the IRAL workshops. We received 106papersfromninecountriesinAsiaandNorthAmerica,fromwhich28papers (26%) were presented in oral sessions and 38 papers in poster sessions (36%). It was a great challenge for the Program Committee to select the best among the excellent papers. The low acceptance rates witness the success of this year’s conference. After a long discussion between the AIRS 2004 Steering Committee and Springer, the publisher agreed to publish our proceedings in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series, which is SCI-indexed. We feel that this strongly attests to the excellent quality of the papers.

To improve the computation accuracy of the transient radiation fields in gas insulated substation (GIS), surface-patch model is proposed in this paper, and the method of vector fitting combining with recursive convolution is applied to substitute the method of fast Fourier transform (FFT) in the process of field calculation. The transient radiation fields of an actual 125-kV GIS are calculated to confirm the correctness of the model and the method. It is seemed from the simulation that the method of vector fitting combining with recursive convolution can overcome the conventional problems of FFT and reduces the computer memory and CPU time successfully, and the results from surface-patch model are more accurate than those from thin-line model. © 2006 IEEE.

In order to research the transient current and voltage along the busbar in substations, the ground return impedance of aerial multiconductor transmission lines above a multilayer soil is researched and its time-domain expression is obtained by using vector fitting method. After the algorithm is testified, the effect of the multilayer soil is included in the finite-difference time-domain method based on recursive convolution. The proposed method is demonstrated to give the same results as the famous software EMTP, and to have a little difference from the results of method of moment. Finally, some examples in substations are analyzed to illustrate the effect of the soil on the transient. © 2006 IEEE.
