Polydopamine modified cerium-based MOFs/ chitosan aerogel beads for the efficient phosphate removal

The metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as the effective adsorbents for phosphate removal, while their ultrafine powders limit their practical application. In this study, we fabricate two chitosan (CS) gel beads added with different cerium-based MOFs and coated with PDA for phosphate adsorption. The MOFs doped in beads are CM1 and CM2, in which the Ce(III)/Ce(IV) ratio is 0.36 and 1.46, indicating CM2 is Ce(III) dominated and more suitable for phosphate removal. However, during the process of preparing gel beads, the mixture of chitosan and CM1/CM2 are added drop-by-drop to NaOH solution, leading to the decrease of Ce(III) contents in both of the two beads on account of oxidization. On this basis, in order to improve the phosphate uptake performance and enhance the mechanical strength, polydopamine (PDA) is applied to be coated on the outside. The adsorption capacities of CS-CM1 and CS-CM2 are no more than 20 mg/g higher than that of pure CS, which is also quite equal with the phosphate uptake of CS@PDA (63 mg/g). Due to the reduction of PDA, the content of Ce(III) increasing evidently in the two adsorbents. The maximum phosphate adsorption capacities are 146.8 mg/g and 114.8 mg/g for CS-CM1@PDA and CS-CM2@PDA, respectively. CS-CM2@PDA exhibits the largest treatment volume of ∼1166 BV in the fix-bed column study, much higher than that of CS-CM1@PDA (976 BV). The main reason is that Ce(III) could form binding with phosphate through ligand exchange and precipitation. Those inner-sphere interactions are much stronger than the electrostatic attraction between Ce(IV) and phosphate. Thus, due to this strong affinity, CS-CM2@PDA possessing a higher content of Ce(III) can capture phosphate more easier at low concentration. In summary, owing to reduction of PDA, the Cerium-based MOFs are successfully introduced in CS to realize excellent phosphate removal and exhibit a great prospect in application. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Dechloranes, including dechlorane 602 (Dec 602), dechlorane 603 (Dec 603), dechlorane 604 (Dec 604), dechlorane plus (DP, including syn- and anti-DP) and mirex, were determined in marine food web from Dalian Bay, Northeast China to investigate their occurrence andtrophic transfer. In all organisms, the detection rates were Dec 602 (99%) > mirex (95%) > Dec 603 (92%) > anti-DP (91%) > syn-DP (82%) > Dec 604 (9.6%). The concentrations were 0.92–16 ng/g lipid weight (lw) for mirex, 0.53–2.3 ng/g lw for syn-DP, 1.1–4.5 ng/g lw for anti-DP, 0.19–5.0 ng/g lw for Dec 602, 0.26–1.9 ng/g lw for Dec 603 and 0.020–0.33 ng/g lw for Dec 604. Significant positive relationships (p 2 = 0.80) and Dec602 (R2 = 0.82) in food webs, with the calculated TMFs values of 3.09 and 3.39, respectively, indicating the trophic magnification potential of these compounds. For syn-DP, anti-DP, Dec 603 and Dec 604, the similar significant relationships were not found, suggesting that these chemicals do not trophic magnification nor trophic dilution in the food web. With low log KOW values for mirex (7.01) and Dec 602 (8.05), these two compounds have the highest magnifications potentials, while the magnification potential of Dec 603, Dec 604 and DP dramatically decreased because of their extremely big log KOW values (higher than 10). The observed fractional abundance of anti-DP (fanti) ranged of 0.58–0.69, closing to the one in Chinese industrial products, indicating DP isomers had not undergone significant differences of physicochemical or biological process in the studied food web. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Estuarine wetlands can intercept tidal organic carbon (OC). Our previous research indicated tidal OC weakened the C sequestration of estuarine wetlands because the rapid degradation of tidal chemical-C stimulates soil respiration (SR). However, the long-term effects of tidal OC interception on the C pool stability of estuarine wetlands remain unknown. Soil microbial necromass with great stability has recently been proposed to be a larger contributor to soil organic carbon (SOC) compared with lignin-C, thus making it an ideal predictor of estuarine wetland soil C pool stability. To clarify whether the interception of OC in estuarine wetlands affects the microbial carbon pump, and subsequently the microbial organism mechanism behind, a 6-year field study collecting data on SR and SOC, microbial necromass, microbial organism structure from the Yangtze River Estuary was conducted. In the low tide flats of the estuarine wetland, where the tidal OC input decreased from upstream to downstream, SOC increased alongside decreasing SR nevertheless, further verifying that the high interception of tidal OC diminishes OC sequestration in the wetland soil with similar land plant-C input. Furthermore, the contribution of microbial necromass to SOC decreased from 52.16% to 41.75% as tidal OC input shrank, which was higher than the contribution of plant-derived refractory C. Specifically, in the mudflat characterized by the highest tidal OC input but lacking plant carbon input, microbial necromass accounted for the highest proportion of the SOC, at 61.45%. These may be due to the efficient degradation of tidal OC accelerating the entombing effect of the microbial carbon pump, which was evidenced by that the abundance of C-associated heterogenous bacteria and fungi was sparked in the higher tidal OC input soil. Consequently, the interception benefit of tidal OC to C pool stability would be enhanced with the gradual OC deposition of estuarine wetland soil in the long-term. © 2024, The

Artificial multisensory devices play a key role in human-computer interaction in the field of artificial intelligence(AI).In this work,we have designed and constructed a novel olfactory-visual bimodal neuromorphic carbon nanotube thin film transistor(TFT)arrays for artificial olfactory-visual multisensory synergy recognition with a very low power consumption of 25 aJ for a single pulse,employing semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(sc-SWCNTs)as channel materials and gas sensitive materials,and poly[[4,8-bis[5-(2-ethylhexyl)-2-thienyl]benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b0]dithiophene-2,6-diyl]-2,5-thiophenediyl-[5,7-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-4,8-dioxo-4H,8H-benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c0]dithio-phene-1,3-diyl]](PBDB-T)as the photosensitive *** is noted that it is the first time to realize the simulation of olfactory and visual senses(from 280 nm to 650 nm)with the wide operating temperature range(0-150℃)in a single SWCNT TFT device and successfully simulate the recovery of olfactory senses after COVID-19 by olfactory-visual ***,our SWCNT neuromorphic TFT devices with a high IOn/IOff ratio(up to 10^(6))at a low operating voltage(−2 to 0.5 V)can mimic not only the basic biological synaptic functions of olfaction and vision(such as paired-pulse facilitation,short-term plasticity,and long-term plasticity),but also optical wireless communication by Morse *** proposed multisensory,broadband light-responsive,low-power synaptic devices provide great potential for developing AI robots to face complex external environments.

Rechargeable aluminum ion battery(AIB) with high theoretical specific capacity, abundant elements and low cost engages considerable attention as a promising next generation energy storage and conversion system. Nevertheless, to date, one of the major barriers to pursuit better AIB is the limited applicable cathode materials with the ability to store aluminum highly reversibly. Herein, a highly reversible AIB is proposed using mesoporous TiO2 microparticles(M-TiO2) as the cathode material. The improved performance of Ti O2/Al battery is ascribed to the high ionic conductivity and material stability, which is caused by the stable architecture with a mesoporous microstructure and no random aggregation of secondary particles. In addition, we conducted detailed characterization to gain deeper understanding of the Al^(3+) storage mechanism in anatase Ti O2 for AIB. Our findings demonstrate clearly that Al^(3+)can be reversibly stored in anatase TiO2 by intercalation reactions based on ionic liquid electrolyte. Especially, DFT calculations were used to investigate the accurate insertion sites of aluminum ions in M-Ti O2 and the volume changes of M-TiO2 cells during discharging. As for the controversial side reactions in AIBs, in this work, by normalized calculation, we confirm that M-Ti O2 alone participate in the redox reaction. Moreover, cyclic voltammetry(CV) test was performed to investigate the pseudocapacitive behavior.

A Novel Biosensor Based on Antibody Controlled Sda and Hcr Double Signal Amplification for Tetracycline Detection

Specific recognition of antibodies and efficient amplification of nucleases are powerful tools to develop responsive biosensors for monitoring human and environmental health. Herein, integrating their capabilities by site-selective modifying small molecular on DNA, an biosensor based on antibody controlling strand displacement amplification (SDA) and hybridization chain reaction (HCR) dual signal amplifications was developed, in which the SDA-HCR reaction was activated by antibody competing bind to free small molecular and small molecular-conjugated DNA. As a proof-to-concept, tetracycline (TC) was used as a target to construct a responsive biosensor and detected in various samples. First, TC was labeled with azide group through chemical modification and TC-DNA was prepared by copper-free click chemistry, then antibody controlling SDA-HCR reaction was developed after serial optimization. By this method, TC could be detected in a linear range of 0.01~100 µM with a detection limit of 0.006 µM, and the recovery of the actual samples were 96.62 - 100.31% with the RSD of 1.70 - 4.00% in real samples, showing satisfactory performance. Using this method, TC or other small molecular hazardous materials could be detected without washing, immobilization and multiple steps operation, which would simplify detection in a great degree. Consequently, the distinctive strategy proposed in this work may find more applications in the detection of other small molecules. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The microenvironment of oxygen vacancies plays an important role on metal oxides catalysts for VOCs catalytic oxidation. A simple strategy was provided to tailor the local environment of oxygen vacancies over MnO2 via Mo doping engineering to enhance its catalytic activity. The 0.3MoMnO2with Mo/Mn quality ratio of 0.3 showed superior catalytic oxidation performance of benzene and anti-toxicity (H2O, SO2 and particulate matter). Its benzene oxidation rate at 190℃ was 1.95×10-4 mol/g/h, which was about three and two times higher than that of MnO2 and 0.9MoMnO2, respectively. The Mn-Ov-Mo sites were experimentally verified as the dominant active centers on 0.3MoMnO2. Through DFT calculation, Mo doping could enhance the oxygen adsorption on oxygen vacancies of MnO2. The remarkably well activity of Mn-Ov-Mo was rationally explained by the moderate oxygen adsorption energy to maintain a dynamic equilibrium of oxygen adsorption and desorption, which enhanced the oxygen activation, thereby promoting the benzene catalytic oxidation. However, excessive Mo doping induced to the formation of Mo-Ov-Mo, and its side-on oxygen adsorption configuration was not conducive to oxygen *** work broadens the understanding of relationship between local environment of oxygen vacancies and catalytic activities, which is beneficial for the rational design of efficient VOCs catalysts. © 2023, The Authors. A custom-designed wire beam electrode (WBE) covered by cracked mortar was applied to study the localized corrosion propagation of steel reinforcement under seawater. Additionally, steel reforced concrete specimens with cracks were monitored by EIS methods to study long-term corrosion of steel in real marine environment for 1920 d. The results revealed that corrosion initiates from the crack, and then propagates to other electrodes through interface of steel-mortar. The number of anodic areas increases first and then decreases. The corrosion current density of steel reinforcement in cracked concrete increases exponentially with prolonged exposure time in real marine environment. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
