Higher biodiversity is often assumed to be a more desirable scenario for maintaining the functioning of ecosystems,but whether species-richer communities are also more disturbance-tolerant remains *** this study,we investigated the bacterial communities based on 472 soil samples from 28 forests across China with associated edaphic and climatic *** developed two indexes(i.e.,community mean tolerance breadth[CMTB]and community mean response asynchrony[CMRA])to explore the relationship between diversity and community resistance ***,we examined this resistance potential along the climatic and latitudinal *** revealed that CMTB was significantly and negatively related to species richness,resulting from the changes in balance between relative abundances of putative specialists and *** comparison,we found a unimodal relationship between CMRA and richness,suggesting that higher biodiversity might not always lead to higher community ***,our results showed differential local patterns along *** particular,local patterns in the northern region mainly followed general relationships rather than those for the southern forests,which may be attributed to the differences in annual means and annual variations of climate *** findings highlight that the community resistance potential depends on the composition of diverse species with differential environmental tolerance and *** study provides a new,testable evaluation by considering tolerance breadth and response asynchrony at the community level,which will be helpful in assessing the influence of disturbance under rapid shifts in biodiversity and species composition as a result of global environmental change.

Prediction of Mode Structure Using A Novel Physics-Embedded Neural ODE Method

We designed a new artificial neural network by modifying the neural ordinary differential equation (NODE) framework to successfully predict the time evolution of the 2-dimensional mode profile in both the linear growth stage and nonlinear saturated stage. Starting from the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations, simplifying assumptions were applied based on physical properties and symmetry considerations of the energetic-particle-driven geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) to reduce complexity. Our approach embeds known physical laws directly into the neural network architecture by exposing latent differential states, enabling the model to capture complex features in the nonlinear saturated stage that are difficult to describe analytically, and thus, the new artificial neural network is named as ExpNODE (Exposed latent state Neural ODE). ExpNODE was evaluated using a data set generated from first-principles simulations of the EGAM instability, focusing on the pre-saturated stage and the nonlinear saturated stage where the mode properties are most complex. Compared to state-of-the-art models such as ConvLSTM, ExpNODE with physical information not only achieved lower test loss but also converged faster during training. Specifically, it outperformed ConvLSTM method in both the 20-step and 40-step prediction horizons, demonstrating superior accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, the model exhibited strong generalization capabilities, accurately predicting mode profiles outside the training data set. Visual comparisons between model predictions and ground truth data showed that ExpNODE with physical information closely captured detailed features and asymmetries inherent in the EGAM dynamics that were not adequately captured by other models. These results suggest that integrating physical knowledge into neural ODE frameworks enhances their performance, and provides a powerful tool for modeling complex plasma phenomena. In order to reduce the engine bleed air consumption of fighter jet environmental control systems with high-power electronic equipment compartments, a comparative analysis was conducted on the typical turbine-powered closed cycle systems TP-ACS/HPWS and PTMS-ACS/HPWS. On this basis, improvements were made to PTMS-ACS/HPWS, and the TP-CACS architecture was proposed. The influence of flight conditions, electronic cabin heat load, and other parameters on the engine bleed air consumption of the three systems was analysed through modelling and calculation. The calculation results show that by adjusting the operating pressure and flight altitude, PTMS-ACS/HPWS generally consumes less engine bleed air than TP-ACS/HPWS, and its operation adjustment is more convenient; on this basis, a turbine-powered closed air cycle system TP-CACS with independent regulation of cabin air supply is proposed, and under different electronic cabin thermal loads and flight conditions, the TP-CACS engine has the lowest bleed airflow consumption and the best performance; one of the development directions for future environmental control systems is to combine closed loop systems with independent cabin air supply.

Effect of nickel-plated graphite on microstructure and properties of matrix for Fe-based diamond tools

Nickel-plated graphite particles and unmodified graphite particles with different contents were added to the Fe-based diamond *** basic properties of those specimens were measured,including relative density,hardness,bending strength,abrasion ratio and holding force *** also,SEM,XRD and EDS were used to carry out microstructure characterization,phase analysis and element distribution of these *** results show that nickel plating effectively improves the surface wettability of graphite *** it is determined that an element diffusion zone is formed on the transition interface between the nickel-plated graphite and the matrix materials,effectively enhancing the interfacial bonding ***,the pores and cracks in the matrix generated by adding the graphite particles are reduced after nickel ***,the loss of basic properties of the specimens is *** it is found the higher the graphite content is,the weaker the positive effect of nickel plating *** addition,it is revealed that nickel plating plays a conducive part in the formation of graphite lubricants on the working surface,and nickel-plated graphites can slow down the thermal corrosion of the diamond particles inside the high-temperature sintered specimens.

An Innovative Hybrid Air-Cooled and Liquid-Cooled System for Condensation Prevention

This study introduces an innovative hybrid air-cooled and liquid-cooled system designed to mitigate condensation in lithium-ion battery thermal management systems (BTMS) operating in high-humidity environments. The proposed system features a unique return air structure that enhances the thermal stability and safety of the batteries by recirculating air through the battery box, thereby utilizing residual heat to prevent condensation. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations were employed to analyze and optimize the system's thermal management performance under various airflow velocities and temperature conditions. The research findings indicate that the hybrid system significantly reduces the condensation area by approximately 39.68% at an airflow velocity of 0.5 m/s compared to traditional liquid cooling systems. The integration of flow deflectors further improves the anti-condensation effect, achieving dew-free operation across the entire cooling area. A comprehensive evaluation using the entropy weight-TOPSIS method and nonlinear surface fitting was conducted to assess multiple schemes regarding heat dissipation, anti-condensation measures, and energy consumption. The optimal operating conditions were identified as an airflow velocity (Vair) of 1.29 m/s and a liquid flow velocity (Vwater) of 0.22 m/s, resulting in a maximum temperature difference (ΔT) of 3.98 K, a maximum temperature (Tmax) of 302.36 K, and energy consumption values (Enair and Enwater) of 0.15806 J and 0.19203 J, *** outcomes of this research not only enhance the thermal management efficiency of lithium-ion batteries in high-humidity conditions but also provide practical solutions for electric vehicles and other applications requiring efficient thermal management, demonstrating significant engineering application value. Numerical Study on the Migration of Leaked Oil in Submarine Sediment Caused by Pipeline Leakage Using Two-phase Flow Model

Oil leakage from submarine pipelines can cause severe environmental problems and economic losses. In this study, a two-phase immiscible flow model in porous media is proposed to simulate the migration of leaked oil caused by the leakage of a buried submarine pipeline in sandy sediment. The relationship between saturation, pore pressure, and relative permeability of different fluids in porous media is considered in present model, which is distinguished from previous studies. The spilled oil spreads radially from the leakage point into surrounding sediment driven by the leakage velocity. Moreover, it continues to migrate in sediment under the capillary pressure and gravity. Interestingly, the effect of wave-induced transient response on the ultimate migration of spilled oil in a sandy sediment is negligible. However, increasing sediment porosity can greatly enhance the upward migration of leaked oil based on systematically parametric analysis. Meanwhile, the migration rate of leaked oil decreases with increasing oil density or viscosity. The oil-contaminated area significantly expands with the increase of leakage rate. Fitting formulas between dimensionless time required for the leaked oil to reach the overlying seawater and non-dimensional influencing parameters are well established, which can provide useful guidelines for similar disasters. © 2023 Old City Publishing, Inc.

Accelerated electron transfer process via MOF-derived FeCo/C for enhanced degradation of antibiotic contaminants towards heterogeneous electro-Fenton system

The Fe(III) to Fe(II) process limits the rate of the electro-Fenton system. In this study, MIL-101(Fe) derived porous carbon skeleton-coated FeCo bimetallic catalyst Fe4/Co@PC-700 was prepared as a heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) catalytic process. The experimental results showed its good performance in catalytic removal of antibiotic contaminants, the rate constant of tetracycline (TC) degradation catalyzed by Fe4/Co@PC-700 was 8.93 times higher than that of Fe@PC-700 under the pH conditions of raw water (pH = 5.86), exhibited good removal of TC, oxytetracycline (OTC), hygromycin (CTC), chloramphenicol (CAP) and ciprofloxacin (CIP). It was shown that the introduction of Co promoted more Fe0 production, allowing the material to exhibit faster Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycling rates. 1O2 and high-priced metal oxygen species were identified as the main active species of the system, in addition to the analysis of possible degradation pathways and toxicity of intermediates of TC. Finally, the stability and adaptability of Fe4/Co@PC-700 and EF systems to different water matrices were evaluated, showing that Fe4/Co@PC-700 was easy to recover and could be applied to different water matrices. Cd and As accumulation in staple crops poses potential risks to food safety and human health. Rhizo-microbial communities are involved in their behaviors from soil to crops. However, the responses of rhizo-microbial communities to different Cd and As co-contaminated soils in wheat‒maize rotation are still unclear. This study explored whether wheat or maize could recruit distinct rhizo-microbial communities to adapt to long-term co-contaminated soils with low or high levels of Cd and As (LS or HS). It was apparent that the average wheat grain-Cd/As concentrations were 17.96-fold/4.81-fold in LS and 5.64-fold/7.70-fold in HS higher than those in maize grains, significantly depending on the mobility of Cd/As in soil–crop system, especially from soil to root and from straw to grain. Meanwhile, wheat or maize roots recruited specific bacteria and fungi in LS and HS, which were substantially associated with Cd/As bioavailability in rhizosphere. Wheat roots recruited specific bacterial genera norank_c__MB-A2-108, norank_f__JG30-KF-CM45, and norank_o__Rokubacteriales, and fungal genera Metarhizium and Olpidium under HS, and their relative abundances were positively correlated with soil Cd/As bioavailability and were resistant to Cd and As co-contamination. However, bacterial genera Arthrobacter, Nocardioides, Devosia, Skermanella, and Pedobacter were sensitive to Cd and As co-contamination and were specifically enriched in wheat rhizospheres under LS. Meanwhile, the bacterial genus norank_c__KD4-96 was resistant to Cd and As co-contamination under HS and was distinctly enriched in maize rhizosphere. Furthermore, the roots of wheat and maize recruited the bacterial genus Marmoricola in LS, which was sensitive to Cd and As co-contamination, and recruited specific fungal genus Fusicolla in HS, which was tolerant to Cd and As co-contamination. Effects of diesel contamination on geotechnical properties of granitic residual soil

The physical and mechanical properties of soils change when soils are contaminated by oil products. This study investigates the effect of diesel oil contamination on the geotechnical properties of granitic residual soil. To better understand the behavior of oil-contaminated granitic residual soils, an experimental laboratory investigation was performed on granitic residual soil that was polluted by different amounts of diesel (0 to 15% by soil dry weight). In this paper, the geotechnical properties of clean and contaminated samples, including compaction characteristics, Atterberg limits, shear strength parameters, disintegration rate, and permeability coefficient, were evaluated through tests. The test results indicate that diesel oil has adverse effects on all aspects of the geotechnical properties of granitic residual soil. With the increase in oil content, shear strength parameters, compaction characteristics, and Atterberg limits appear to have different degrees of decline, and granitic residual soil is more likely to disintegrate.
