Carbon encapsulated magnetic nanoparticles (CEMNs) were synthesized by heating an aqueous glucose solution containing Fe-Au (Au coated Fe nanoparticles) nanoparticles at 160-180 ℃ for 2 h. This novel hydrothermal approach is not only simple but also provides the surface of CEMNs with functional groups like--OH. The formation of carbon encapsulated magnetic nanoparticles was not favored when using pure Fe nanoparticles as cores because of the oxidation of Fe nanoparticles by 1-120 during the reaction and, therefore, the surfaces of the naked Fe nanoparticles had to be coated by Au shell in advance. TEM, XRD, XPS and VSM measurments characterized that they were uniform carbon spheres containing some embedded Fe-Au nanoparticles, with a saturation of 14.6 emu/g and the size of the typical product is -350 nm.

The paper proposes a new network intrusion detection system based on fuzzy neural network by redesigning the intrusion detection system's architecture and arithmetic. In order to overcome the difficulty of specifying the membership function of rules depending on experiences of experts in multi-dimension space.,neural network is introduced to distinguish non-linearly input/output characteristics of complex system and to generate rule sets and membership functions automatically. The new architecture adopts the network processor to collect and analyse the data in the low layer of network.,and to establish a prototype system. This system demonstrated in this experiment appears to be better intrusion detection ability, moreover, which is able to detect unknown attack and plays down false alarms.

With the deeply research on intrusion detection techniques and the widely use of intrusion detection products, the study of evaluation techniques of intrusion detection systems became important. In the paper, relative works of the evaluation of intrusion detection systems was introduced. The primary aspects of intrusion detection systems in an evaluation were discussed. An evaluation system for intrusion detection systems was proposed. In the system, a supervisor module controls the whole system. The supervisor module schedules the traffic control module and the attack emulation module. The data in the evaluation environment are recorded and input to the evaluation module. The functions such as emulation of network traffic and host usage, emulation of attacks and evaluation report generation are implemented.

Colloid gold nanoparticle-based layer-by-layer amplification approach was applied to enhance the electrochemical detection sensitivity of DNA hybridization at carbon nanotube modified carbon paste electrodes (CNTPEs). Streptavidin was immobilized onto the surface of CNTPEs, and the conjugation of biotin labeled target oligonucle,otides to the above immobilized streptavidin was performed, followed by the hybridization of target oligonucleotides with the gold nanoparticle-labeled DNA probe and then the layer-by-layer enhanced connection of gold nanoparticles, on which oligonucleotides complementary to the DNA probe were attached, to the hybridization system. The differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) signal of total gold nanoparticles was monitored. It was found that the layer-by-layer colloidal gold DPV detection enhanced the sensitivity by about one order of magnitude compared with that of one-layer detection. One-base mismatched DNA and complementary DNA could be distinguished clearly.

A novel electrochemical immunoassay for cardiac troponin Ⅰ (cTnI) combining the concepts of the dual monoclonal antibody "sandwich" principle, the silver enhancement on the nano-gold particle, and the SBA-15 mesoporous modified carbon paste electrode (SBA-MCPE) is described. Four main steps were carried out to obtain the analytical signal, i.e., electrode preparation, immunoreaction, silver enhancement, and anodic stripping voltammetric detection. A linear relationship between the anodic stripping peak current and concentration of cTnI from 0.5 to 5.0 ng/mL and a limit of detection of 0.2 ng/mL of cTnI were obtained.
