This paper introduces a rotated 8QAM probabilistic shaping (PS) scheme based on dual-mode orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing with index modulation (DM-OFDM-IM) over an underwater magnetic induction (MI) communication system. The key aspect of DM-OFDM-IM is its use of two distinct signal constellations to modulate the carrier signal independently. We categorize the 8QAM constellations into internal and external groups. We divide the subcarriers within the whole bit block into two groups: the index selection group and the constellation mapping group. The internal constellation transmission probability is advanced by making the index bits of the index selection group correspond to different constellation modulations’ times and order. The modulation index is structured to achieve a 3:1 ratio between the internal and external constellation signals. This approach enhances the likelihood of transmitting low-energy internal signals, thereby lowering the bit error rate (BER). Comparative analysis with the constant composition distribution matching (CCDM) method reveals no significant performance differences. Additionally, constellation rotation is integrated to improve signal robustness in Rayleigh fading channels, increasing diversity gain without expanding bandwidth or power consumption. To validate the scheme’s underwater performance, a practical experiment was conducted at 15 cm water depth, transmitting DM-OFDM-IM-based PS rotated 8QAM signals over a 23 cm distance at 62.18 Kb/s. Results demonstrate that constellation rotation significantly enhances signal reliability despite its simplicity. Compared to conventional 8QAM, the proposed method extends the communication distance by 4.6 cm at a hard-decision forward error correction (FEC) bit error rate (BER) limit of 3.8 × 10−3. User-Centric Multi-Objective Predictive Control for Mixed Vehicular Platoon

The penetration rate of automated vehicles (AVs) will remain unsaturated for a long period, leading to the coexistence of AVs and human-driven vehicles (HDVs), namely, mixed vehicular platoon (MVP). This paper proposes a novel user-centric multi-objective predictive control (UMPC) strategy to address dynamics uncertainty and multi-objective conflict for MVP. A data-driven model is established with subspace identification to alleviate the adverse effects of the non-ideal driving behavior and complex powertrain structure of electric vehicles. To provide a personalized driving experience, soft constraints and a user-centric multi-objective cost function are formulated. Based on this, a multi-objective optimization scheme in terms of data-driven model predictive sequence is designed. It aims to mitigate conflicts among multiple optimization objectives involving driving safety, driving comfort and energy economy. Then, a grey wolf optimizer (GWO) is devised to navigate the search process, striving for globally optimal trade-offs among conflicting objectives. With the above preparations, a UMPC strategy is suggested. Then, a hardware-in-the-loop experiment platform with CarMaker software and driving simulator is constructed, and twenty drivers participate in the experiment. Freestanding film formed with Sb-nanoplates embedded in flexible porous carbon nanofibers as a binder-free anode for high-performance wearable potassium-ion battery

Antimony-based materials are considered as promising anodes for potassium ion batteries due to their high theoretical capacity and low electrode potential. However, the aggregation and bulk expansion of Sb particles in cycling will cause capacity attenuation and poor rate performance. In this paper, Sb nanoplates were designed to be embedded in flexible porous N-dopped carbon nanofibers(Sb@PCNFs)by a simple electrospinning deposition(ESD) method. In this structural design, Sb nanoplates of high capacity were employed as active materials, N-dopped carbon nanofibers were used to improve conductivity and structural stability. The introduction of pore-forming agent enables the nanofibers to possess porous structure, thus buffering the huge volume change and promoting the transfer of electrolyte/*** importantly, the freestanding film can be directly used as a working electrode, reducing the redundancy in the battery and the cost. Benefitting from the favorable structure, the freestanding flexible Sb@PCNFs electrode shows excellent potassium storage performance with a capacity of 314 m Ah/g after 2000 cycles at 500 m A/g. This strategy of employing active material with high capacity in porous and conductive flexible nanofibers represents an effective method of achieving binder-free electrode with good electrochemical performance towards wearable energy storage devices.

Differentially Private Federated Stochastic Primal-Dual Learning for Internet of Vehicles

Federated learning (FL) has the potential to empower Internet of Vehicles (IoV) networks by enabling smart vehicles (SVs) to participate in the learning process under the orchestration of a vehicular service provider while keeping data locally. In this article, we propose a novel federated stochastic primal-dual algorithm with differential privacy (FedSPD-DP) to ensure robust privacy protection for FL based IoV (FL-IoV) systems. The FedSPD-DP algorithm leverages multiple steps of local stochastic gradient descent (SGD) and partial client participation (PCP) to improve communication efficiency while incorporating differential privacy (DP) to ensure privacy protection. Our theoretical analysis explores the impact of these strategies on learning performance. Specifically, we demonstrate that the data sampling strategy and PCP enhance data privacy, while a larger number of local SGD steps may increase privacy leakage, revealing a nontrivial tradeoff between communication efficiency and privacy protection. Extensive experiments on real-world data validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, showing superior performance compared to state-of-the-art FL algorithms, and confirming the analytical results and properties. © 2014 IEEE.

End-to-end image coding methods based on wavelet-like transform have made great progress in recent years. The most advanced one is iWave++, which adopts multi-level lifting schemes based on convolutional neural networks. However, iWave++ still has many unresolved problems. First, the independent entropy coding of each component makes it impossible to use the correlation between components better. Secondly, additive wavelet transform limits the nonlinear ability of learnable wavelet transform. Moreover, the offline training strategy makes the iWave++ unable to adjust according to the content. In this paper, we propose an improved framework for iWave++ called iWave-Pro. iWavePro is designed with several techniques to overcome the problems mentioned above. These techniques are the joint multi-component Gaussian mixture entropy coding, the affine wavelet-like transform, and the online training. Experimental results show that our method can save 10.73% bit rate compared with iWave++ at the same quality. © 2023 IEEE.

Local phase transition in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) by lithiumintercalation enables the fabrication of high-quality contact interfaces in twodimensional(2D) electronic devices. However, controlling the intercalation oflithium is hitherto challenging in vertically stacked van der Waalsheterostructures (vdWHs) due to the random diffusion of lithium ions in thehetero-interface, which hinders their application for contact engineering of 2DvdWHs devices. Herein, a strategy to restrict the lithium intercalation pathwayin vdWHs is developed by using surface-permeation assisted intercalationwhile sealing all edges, based on which a high-performance edge-contact MoS_(2)vdWHs floating-gate transistor is demonstrated. Our method avoids intercalationfrom edges that are prone to be random but intentionally promotes lithiumintercalation from the top surface. The derived MoS_(2) floating-gatetransistor exhibits improved interface quality and significantly reduced subthresholdswing (SS) from >600 to 100 mV dec^(–1). In addition, ultrafast program/erase performance together with well-distinguished 32 memory statesare demonstrated, making it a promising candidate for low-power artificialsynapses. The study on controlling the lithium intercalation pathways in 2DvdWHs offers a viable route toward high-performance 2D electronics for memoryand neuromorphic computing purposes.

In industrial applications, fault diagnosis of gearboxes is critical for ensuring the reliability and safe operation of machinery and equipment. However, data-driven fault diagnosis techniques rely heavily on high-quality labeled data for training, which is often difficult to obtain in real industrial scenarios. To address this challenge, this paper presents a digital twin fault diagnosis framework. First, the digital twin technique is utilized to build a virtual model of a gearbox that generates sufficient labeled fault data. Second, we develop a hybrid adversarial domain discriminative network, which incorporates a spatial channel reconstruction convolution module instead of a conventional residual network to enhance the model’s feature extraction capabilities. Additionally, we propose a dynamic weighted joint distribution adaptation method to improve domain confusion capability, minimizing the granularity of features between the two types of data. Finally, the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method are validated through experiments. © 2024 IEEE.

An adaptive multitasking optimization algorithm based on population distribution

Evolutionary multitasking optimization (EMTO) handles multiple tasks simultaneously by transferring and sharing valuable knowledge from other relevant tasks. How to effectively identify transferred knowledge and reduce negative knowledge transfer are two key issues in EMTO. Many existing EMTO algorithms treat the elite solutions in tasks as transferred knowledge between tasks. However, these algorithms may not be effective enough when the global optimums of the tasks are far apart. In this paper, we study an adaptive evolutionary multitasking optimization algorithm based on population distribution information to find valuable transferred knowledge and weaken the negative transfer between tasks. In this paper, we first divide each task population into K sub-populations based on the fitness values of the individuals, and then the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) is utilized to calculate the distribution difference between each sub-population in the source task and the subpopulation where the best solution of the target task is located. Among the sub-populations of the source task, the sub-population with the smallest MMD value is selected, and the individuals in it are used as transferred individuals. In this way, the solution chosen for the transfer may be an elite solution or some other solution. In addition, an improved randomized interaction probability is also included in the proposed algorithm to adjust the intensity of inter-task interactions. The experimental results on two multitasking test suites demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves high solution accuracy and fast convergence for most problems, especially for problems with low relevance. © 2024 the Author(s).
