Adaptive fractional-order edge-stopping function-based active contour model for image segmentation

The active contour model has been a widely used method in image segmentation that remains challenging due to the noise and intensity inhomogeneity. In this paper, an adaptive fractional-order edge-stopping function-based active contour model is proposed. To better preserve the weak texture information in the image, a new adaptive fractional order matrix, defined using the gradient information of the image, is first constructed. Then, a new edge-stopping function based on adaptive fractional differentiation is utilized to improve the robustness of the proposed model to noise. Finally, the energy fitting term based on regional variance can achieve an arbitrary selection of the initial position of the active contour curve. Experimental results on grayscale and natural images in PASCAL VOC2012 demonstrate that this method can effectively segment images with noise and intensity inhomogeneity. Compared to the optimal competitive active contour model WHRSPF, the proposed method shows an average increase of 7.9% and 4.5% in IOU and DSC, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Multiple model PHD filter for tracking sharply maneuvering targets using recursive RANSAC based adaptive birth estimation

An algorithm to track multiple sharply maneuvering targets without prior knowledge about new target birth is proposed. These targets are capable of achieving sharp maneuvers within a short period of time, such as drones and agile *** probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter, which propagates only the first-order statistical moment of the full target posterior, has been shown to be a computationally efficient solution to multitarget tracking problems. However, the standard PHD filter operates on the single dynamic model and requires prior information about target birth distribution, which leads to many limitations in terms of practical applications. In this paper,we introduce a nonzero mean, white noise turn rate dynamic model and generalize jump Markov systems to multitarget case to accommodate sharply maneuvering dynamics. Moreover, to adaptively estimate newborn targets’information, a measurement-driven method based on the recursive random sampling consensus (RANSAC) algorithm is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significant improvement in tracking multiple sharply maneuvering targets with adaptive birth estimation.

In order to improve the performance of traditional SOM model, an adaptive SOM neural network algorithm is proposed. By introducing the error square sum solution formula, the clustering error of the model sub-data set is calculated by using the method of cutting the data set, and the change trend of the clustering error is quickly obtained. Then the learning rate of the SOM network is adaptively adjusted according to this, and the convergence speed is accelerated on the basis of ensuring that the network is fully trained, thereby improving the performance of the SOM network. © 2023 SPIE.

Impact of Revised Trigger and Closure of the Double-Plume Convective Parameterization on Precipitation Simulations over East Asia

A double-plume convective parameterization scheme is revised to improve the precipitation simulation of a global model(Global-to-Regional Integrated Forecast system;GRIST).The improvement is achieved by considering the effects of large-scale dynamic processes on the trigger of deep *** closure,based on dynamic CAPE,is improved accordingly to allow other processes to consume CAPE under the more restricted convective trigger *** revised convective parameterization is evaluated with a variable-resolution model setup(110–35 km,refined over East Asia).The Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project(AMIP)simulations demonstrate that the revised convective parameterization substantially delays the daytime precipitation peaks over most land areas,leading to an improved simulated diurnal cycle,evidenced by delayed and less frequent afternoon ***,changes to the threshold of the trigger function yield a small impact on the diurnal amplitude of precipitation because of the consistent setting of dCAPE-based trigger and *** simulated mean precipitation remains reasonable,with some improvements evident along the southern slopes of the Tibetan *** revised scheme increases convective precipitation at the lower levels of the windward slope and reduces the large-scale precipitation over the upper slope,ultimately shifting the rainfall peak southward,which is in better agreement with the observations.

The high-fidelity reconstruction of sound speeds is crucial for predicting acoustic propagation in shallow water where internal solitary waves(ISWs)are *** temperatures from time series to spatial fields is an approach widely used to reproduce the sound speed perturbed by deformed internal ***,wave-shape distortions are inherent in the modeling *** paper analyzes the formation mechanism and dynamic behavior of the distorted waveform that is shown to arise from the mismatch between the modeled and real propagation speeds of individual solitons within an ISW *** mitigate distortions,a reconstruction method incorporating the dispersion property of an ISW train is proposed *** principle is to assign each soliton a real speed observed in the ***,the modeled solitons propagate at their intrinsic speeds,and the packet disperses naturally with *** method is applied to reconstruct the sound speed perturbed by ISWs in the South China *** mean and median of the root-mean-square error between the reconstructed and measured sound speeds are below 2 m/*** modeled shape deformations and packet dispersion agree well with observations,and the waveform distortion is reduced compared with the original *** work ensures the high fidelity of waveguide-environment reconstructions and facilitates the investigation of sound propagation in the future.

Re-HGNM: a repeat aware hypergraph neural machine for session-based recommendation

Hypergraph neural network (HGNN) for session-based recommendation (SBR) is quite rare but has been rewarded with promising performance. However, under the hypergraph framework, no works have emphasized the importance of repeat consumption, which is an important consumption pattern in SBR (e.g., people watch movies or listen to music repeatedly over time) and limits the performance of SBR in a beyond graph topology manner. For filling this gap and better recommendation performance, this paper incorporates repeat consumption into HGNNs and proposes a new recommendation machine, named Re-HGNM, which leverages the powerful expressiveness of HGNNs in representation learning and takes repeat consumption into account by considering the relationship between repeat behaviors and modeling repeat recommendations. Specially, in the encoder of Re-HGNM, we process sessions as hyperedges, in which the repeated behaviors are merged, to constitute hypergraph that conveys not only the complex relations between unique items but the relationships between repeat behaviors. After learning item representation by hypergraph convolution, a repeat-explore module is employed to determine whether to make repeat recommendation. In repeat mode, the next click must be in old items;thereby, the shrunk prediction space makes it easier to find the target item. Therefore, in the decoding stage, two decoders correspondingly work under two separate modes. Finally, compared with the current best baseline, Re-HGNM relatively improved P@20 by 58.37%, 8.70%, 1.28%, and 1.16% and MRR@20 by 25.52%, 10.31%, 10.76%, and 2.76% on the Tmall, RetailRocket, Nowplaying, and Diginetica, to be the current state-of-the-art model for SBR. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2023.

Near-field Beam Training with Sparse DFT Codebook

Extremely large-scale arrays (XL-arrays) have emerged as one promising technology to improve the spectral efficiency and spatial resolution in future sixth generation (6G) wireless systems. The drastic increase in the number of antennas renders the communication users more likely to be located in the near-field region, which requires a more accurate spherical (instead of planar) wavefront propagation modeling. However, this also inevitably incurs unaffordable beam training overhead when performing a two-dimensional (2D) beam-search in both the angular and range domains. To address this issue, we first introduce in this paper a new sparse discrete Fourier transform (DFT) codebook, which exhibits the angular periodicity in the received beam pattern at the user. This thus motivates us to propose a three-phase beam training scheme. Specifically, in the first phase, we utilize the sparse DFT codebook for beam sweeping in an angular subspace and estimate candidate user angles according to the received beam pattern. Then, a central subarray is activated to scan specific candidate angles for resolving the issue of angular ambiguity for identifying the user angle. In the third phase, the polar-domain codebook is applied in the estimated angle to search the best effective user range. Finally, numerical results show that our proposed beam training scheme enabled by the sparse DFT codebook achieves 98.67% beam training overhead reduction as compared to the exhaustive-search scheme, yet without compromising rate performance in the high signal-to-ratio (SNR) regime. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

The trend towards automation and intelligence in aircraft final assembly testing has led to a new demand for autonomous perception of unknown cockpit operation scenes in robotic collaborative airborne system *** address this demand,a robotic automated 3D reconstruction cell which enables to autonomously plan the robot end-camera’s trajectory is developed for image acquisition and 3D modeling of the cockpit operation scene.A continuous viewpoint path planning algorithm is proposed that incorporates both 3D reconstruction quality and robot path quality into optimization *** metrics for viewpoint position paths and orientation paths are introduced together for the first time in 3D *** ensure safe and effective movement,two spatial constraints,Domain of View Admissible Position(DVAP)and Domain of View Admissible Orientation(DVAO),are implemented to account for robot reachability and collision *** using diffeomorphism mapping,the orientation path is transformed into 3D,consistent with the position *** orientation and position paths can be optimized in a unified framework to maximize the gain of reconstruction quality and path smoothness within DVAP and *** reconstruction cell is capable of automatic data acquisition and fine scene modeling,using the generated robot C-space *** and physical scene experiments have confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method to achieve highprecision 3D reconstruction while optimizing robot motion quality.
