TERMS: Task management policies to achieve high performance for mixed workloads using surplus resources

Resource contentions and performance interferences can lead to workload performance degradation in mixed-workload deployment clusters. Previous work guarantees the resource requirements of latency-sensitive tasks and reduces performance losses to batch jobs by reclaiming surplus resources from over-provisioned tasks. While the fragmentation of resources leads to a mismatch between provisioned resources and task requirements, resulting in high operation overheads and losses of task fairness. This paper proposes TERMS, the task management policies based on task relevance, resource distribution, and task fairness to achieve efficient and low-cost task management. TERMS mainly includes three types of management policies. The task scheduling policy can schedule new tasks according to task relevance. Task selection strategies select tasks for resource provisioning and task resumption based on resource requirements and task fairness. If necessary, the node selection strategy can be used to choose befitting target nodes based on task relevance and node resource information for task migration when eliminating straggler tasks. Evaluation results show that TERMS can further improve the performance of latency-sensitive services and batch jobs, reduce management overheads, and avoid operation failures. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Cooperative perception is a promising paradigm to tackle the perception limitations of a single intelligent vehicle (IV) to enhance the driving safety and efficiency in intelligent vehicular networks. However, the real-time transmission and computation-intensive fusion of raw sensing data raise new challenges for satisfying the stringent delay requirement of delay-sensitive applications. In this paper, we formulate a joint optimization problem of the cooperative IV selection, compression ratio selection, transmit power control, task offloading decision and computation allocation to minimize the end-to-end delay consisting of compression, transmission and computation. In particular, to meet the perception probability requirement, the quality and quantity-aware matching algorithm is proposed to optimize the cooperative IV selection. To guarantee the queue stability of offloading tasks, we develop the Lyapunov optimization algorithm to determine the upper bound of the offloading tasks and the corresponding optimal computation allocation. The Lyapunov aided deep reinforcement learning algorithm is further proposed to dynamically adjust the task offloading decision and compression ratio selection to minimize the end-to-end delay with the transmit power control being optimized by the successive convex approximation algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared to several benchmark algorithms, our proposed algorithm achieves the lowest end-to-end delay while guaranteeing the requirements on perception probability and queue stability effectively. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

The purpose of this paper is to develop a distributed channel estimation (CE) algorithm for spatially non-stationary (SNS) channels in extremely large aperture array systems, addressing the issues of high communication cost and computational complexity associated with traditional centralized algorithms. However, SNS channels differ from conventional spatially stationary channels, presenting new challenges such as varying sparsity patterns for different antennas. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel distributed CE algorithm accompanied by a simple-yet-effective hard thresholding scheme. The proposed algorithm is not only suitable for uniform antenna arrays but also for irregularly deployed antennas. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the the proposed algorithm in terms of estimation accuracy, communication cost and computational complexity. © (2024) Xu et al., licensed to EAI. Tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery via semi-supervised learning

Identifying cancer-related differentially expressed genes provides significant information for diagnosing tumors, predicting prognoses, and effective treatments. Recently, deep learning methods have been used to perform gene differential expression analysis using microarray-based high-throughput gene profiling and have achieved good results. In this study, we proposed a new robust multiple-datasetsbased semi-supervised learning model, MSSL, to perform tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery across multiple tumor types and multiple datasets, which addressed the following long-lasting obstacles:(1) the data volume of the existing single dataset is not enough to fully exert the advantages of deep learning;(2) a large number of datasets from different research institutions cannot be effectively used due to inconsistent internal variances and low quality;(3) relatively uncommon cancers have limited effects on deep learning methods. In our article, we applied MSSL to The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database(GEO) pan-cancer normalized-level3 RNA-seq data and got 97.6% final classification accuracy, which had a significant performance leap compared with previous approaches. Finally, we got the ranking of the importance of the corresponding genes for each cancer type based on classification results and validated that the top genes selected in this way were biologically meaningful for corresponding tumors and some of them had been used as biomarkers, which showed the efficacy of our method.

Metal-organic nanosheets(MONs)as a novel material with tunable pore structures and low mass transfer resistance,have emerged as molecular sieves for the separation of gases and *** theory,they can also serve as ion sieves for lithium metal batteries(LMBs),realizing the high-energy and dendritic free ***,there are rarely relevant reports,because it is difficult to simultaneously balance efficient ion sieving ability,high ion passing rate and high electrochemical ***,we synthesized a stable ultrathin MON[Zn_(2)(Bim)_(4)]([Zn_(2)(Bim)_(4)]Nanosheet,HBim=benzimidazolate),which can achieve both efficient lithium ion sieving ability,high lithium ion passing rate and high electrochemical stability at the same *** separator assembled by this MON exhibits high Li^(+)transfer number of 0.81 due to the accurate lithium ion and anion/solvent *** battery containing such separator shows high lithium ionic conductivity of 0.74 m S cm^(-1)and low activation energy of 0.099 eV,which can be attributed to the nanometer level thickness and the ion sieving *** is more,we realized the application of MONs-based ion sieves in LMBs with intercalation cathodes for the first *** the LiFePO_(4)|Li battery with as-assembled separator demonstrates improved Coulombic efficiency(>99%)and significantly extended cycling life(>1600 cycles)with 80%capacity retention.

Modification of the RUSLE slope length factor based on a multiple flow algorithm considering vertical leakage at karst landscapes

A Reflectarray With Low Profile Based on the Method of Choosing the Certain Phase Constant

In this letter, a reflectarray antenna with a small focal diameter ratio (F\D) is presented. It is found that when the F\D is extremely small, the phase constant used in calculating the required reflection phase on the reflecting surface significantly affects the radiation pattern. In certain cases, an unsuitable phase constant can even cause the main beam to split. The unit cell is implemented as a stacked patch, and the reflecting surface comprises 14 × 14 elements. The effect of the phase constant on the radiation pattern is analyzed, and two reflectarrays with phase constants of 90° and 180°, both operating at 10 GHz with an F\D of 0.05, are compared. These two reflectarrays are simulated, fabricated, and measured. The measured results show good agreement with the simulations. Within the operating band, the reflectarray with a phase constant of 90° achieves a maximum measured gain of 20.42 dBi, with the first sidelobe level (SLL1) below -10 dB. The radiation pattern of the reflectarray with a phase constant of 180° is totally distorted, resulting in a measured gain of 6.56 dBi at 10 GHz and an SLL1 of -5.8 dB. © 2002-2011 IEEE.
