Hidden Links Between Skin Microbiome and Skin Imaging Phenome

Despite the skin microbiome has been linked to skin health and diseases,its role in modulating human skin appearance remains *** a total of 1244 face imaging phenomes and 246 cheek metagenomes,we first established three skin age indices by machine learning,including skin phenotype age(SPA),skin microbiota age(SMA),and skin integration age(SIA)as surrogates of phenotypic aging,microbial aging,and their combination,***,we found that besides aging and gender as intrinsic factors,skin microbiome might also play a role in shaping skin imaging phenotypes(SIPs).Skin taxonomic and functionalαdiversity was positively linked to melanin,pore,pigment,and ultraviolet spot levels,but negatively linked to sebum,lightening,and porphyrin ***,certain species were correlated with specific SIPs,such as sebum and lightening levels negatively correlated with Corynebacterium matruchotii,Staphylococcus capitis,and Streptococcus ***,we demonstrated skin microbial potential in predicting SIPs,among which the lightening level presented the least error of 1.8%.Lastly,we provided a reservoir of potential mechanisms through which skin microbiome adjusted the SIPs,including the modulation of pore,wrinkle,and sebum levels by cobalamin and heme synthesis pathways,predominantly driven by Cutibacterium *** pioneering study unveils the paradigm for the hidden links between skin microbiome and skin imaging phenome,providing novel insights into how skin microbiome shapes skin appearance and its healthy aging.

Improving Speaker Verification Back-End with Graph Neural Networks

Currently, research on speaker verification tasks is primarily concentrated on enhancing deep speaker models to extract high-quality speaker embeddings. Nevertheless, this speaker embeddings can be regarded as potential graph structures. Therefore, this paper introduces a graph neural network-based speaker verification back-end approach, treating the speaker embeddings derived from the front-end as graph structures and leveraging graph neural networks to uncover the relationships among embeddings, thereby achieving superior-quality speaker embeddings. In addition, we propose a group updating method to solve the problem of memory overflow when the number of nodes is excessive. Extensive experiments and ablation studies were carried out on the VoxCeleb dataset, and the experimental outcomes validate the effectiveness of our proposed graph neural network speaker back-end in significantly boosting the performance of speaker verification systems. An Infrared and Visible Image Fusion Approach of Self-calibrated Residual Networks and Feature Embedding

Background: The fusion of infrared images and visible images has been a hot topic in the field of image fusion. In the process of image fusion, different methods of feature extraction and processing will directly affect the fusion performance. Objectives: Low resolution (small size) of high-level features will lead to the loss of spatial information. On the other side, the low-level features are not significant due to their insufficient filtering of background and noise. Methods: In order to solve the problem of insufficient feature utilization in existing methods, a new fusion approach (SC-Fuse) based on self-calibrated residual networks (SCNet) and feature embedding has been proposed. The method improves the quality of image fusion from two aspects: feature extraction and feature processing. Results: First, self-calibrated modules are applied to the field of image fusion for the first time, which enlarged the receptive field to make feature maps contain more information. Second, we use ZCA (Zero-phase Component Analysis) and l1-norm to process features, and propose a feature embedding operation to realize the complementarity of feature information at different levels. Conclusion: Finally, a suitable strategy is given to reconstruct the fused image. After ablation experiments and comparison with other representative algorithms, the results show the effectiveness and superiority of SC-Fuse. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

Federated learning (FL) has been recognized as a rapidly growing research area, where the model is trained over massively distributed clients under the orchestration of a parameter server (PS) without sharing clients' data. This article delves into a class of federated problems characterized by nonconvex and nonsmooth (NCNS) loss functions, that are prevalent in FL applications but challenging to handle due to their intricate nonconvexity and nonsmoothness nature and the conflicting requirements on communication efficiency and privacy protection. In this article, we propose a novel federated primal - dual algorithm with bidirectional model sparsification tailored for NCNS FL problems, and differential privacy is applied for privacy guarantee. Its unique insightful properties and some privacy and convergence analyses are also presented as the FL algorithm design guidelines. Extensive experiments on real-world data are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and much superior performance than some state-of-the-art FL algorithms, together with the validation of all the analytical results and properties. © 2014 IEEE.

The slow conversion of polyphase in lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries not only intensifies the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides(LiPSs),but also causes the continuous accumulation of inactive sulfur species,resulting in rapid capacity attenuation and sluggish dynamic ***,the promoting effect of atomic interface stress on sulfur reaction was investigated via CoFe-CoFe_(2)O_(4)heterogeneous nanosheets with a cavity *** strain force induced by the in-situ precipitation of Co Fe bimetallic alloy in oxide matrix increased the d-band center,which was conducive to the interaction between catalyst and Li *** sulfur cathode based on this two-dimensional(2D)nanosheet design showed an extremely high capacity of 751 mAh g^(-1)at 4 *** with a sulfur loading of 5.55 mg cm^(-2),its area capacity was still as high as 7.15 mAh cm^(-2).Meanwhile,the enhanced stability greatly improved the practical potential of Li-S batteries.

A novel methodology for calculating the aerosol direct radiative effect using a non-uniform five-dimensional lookup table (Dec, 10.1080/01431161.2023.2295833, 2023)

The quantification of aerosol direct radiative effects (ADREs) under clear sky conditions is essential for understanding the influence of aerosols on climate. This paper introduces a novel approach, the non-uniform five-dimensional lookup table (NU-5D-LUT) method, for calculating the ADREs under clear sky conditions. The NU-5D-LUT method considers key parameters such as aerosol optical thickness, single scattering albedo, asymmetry factor, surface albedo, and solar zenith angle. Validation against the SBDART model shows strong agreement, with correlation coefficients of 0.97 and 0.99 for TOA and BOA ADREs, respectively. Global comparisons demonstrate consistent ADRE distributions, with relative errors below 5.8% for TOA ADRE and 4.4% for BOA ADRE. The NU-5D-LUT method significantly reduces computation time, offering a practical solution for large-scale simulations and climate model evaluations in aerosol research.

Semitransparent organic solar cells(ST-OSCs)have garnered considerable attention as promising renewable energy technology for integrating photovoltaics into ***,there is a trade-off between power conversion efficiency(PCE)and average visible transmittance(AVT),which hinders the achievement of a high light utilization efficiency(LUE).In this study,we propose a valuable method to address this challenge by replacing the transparent top electrode,Ag,with a 20 nm layer of *** ST-OSCs based on the 20 nm Au electrode demonstrate superior exciton extraction,more efficient charge collection,and higher color-rendering index(CRI)due to their smoother surface,higher conductivity,and enhanced visible light transmittance,resulting in a significantly higher PCE of 13.67%and an enhanced AVT of 30.17%,contributing to a high LUE of 4.15%.Additionally,optically transparent dielectric layers,applied on the front and back sides of the ST-OSCs to further boost performance,delivered an impressive LUE of 4.93%,with PCE and AVT values reaching 14.44%and 34.12%,***,the champion ST-OSCs also exhibited a favorable CRI value of *** achievements represent the bestperforming ST-OSCs to date with both high LUE and CRI and hold significant implications for the prospective commercialization of ST-OSCs.
