Optimized online filter stack spectrometer for ultrashort X-ray pulses

Currently,with the advent of high-repetition-rate laser-plasma experiments,the demand for online diagnosis for the X-ray spectrum is increasing because the laser-plasma-generated X-ray spectrum is very important for characterizing electron dynamics and *** this study,scintillators and silicon PIN(P-type–intrinsic-N-type semiconductor)diodes were used to construct a wideband online filter stack *** X-ray sensor and filter arrangement was optimized using a genetic algorithm to minimize the condition number of the response ***,the unfolding error was significantly reduced based on numerical *** detector responses were quantitatively calibrated by irradiating the scintillator and PIN diode with various nuclides and comparing the measuredγ-ray peaks.A prototype 15-channel spectrometer was developed by integrating an X-ray detector with front-and back-end *** prototype spectrometer could record X-ray pulse signals at a repetition rate of 1 ***,an optimized spectrometer was employed to record the real-time spectra of laser-driven bremsstrahlung *** optimized spectrometer offers a compact solution for spectrum diagnostics of ultrashort X-ray pulses,exhibiting improved accuracy in terms of spectrum measurements and repetition rates,and could be widely used in next-generation high-repetition-rate high-power laser facilities.

Representation learning via an integrated autoencoder for unsupervised domain adaptation

The purpose of unsupervised domain adaptation is to use the knowledge of the source domain whose data distribution is different from that of the target domain for promoting the learning task in the target *** key bottleneck in unsupervised domain adaptation is how to obtain higher-level and more abstract feature representations between source and target domains which can bridge the chasm of domain ***,deep learning methods based on autoencoder have achieved sound performance in representation learning,and many dual or serial autoencoderbased methods take different characteristics of data into consideration for improving the effectiveness of unsupervised domain ***,most existing methods of autoencoders just serially connect the features generated by different autoencoders,which pose challenges for the discriminative representation learning and fail to find the real cross-domain *** address this problem,we propose a novel representation learning method based on an integrated autoencoders for unsupervised domain adaptation,called *** capture the inter-and inner-domain features of the raw data,two different autoencoders,which are the marginalized autoencoder with maximum mean discrepancy(mAE)and convolutional autoencoder(CAE)respectively,are proposed to learn different feature *** higher-level features are obtained by these two different autoencoders,a sparse autoencoder is introduced to compact these inter-and inner-domain *** addition,a whitening layer is embedded for features processed before the mAE to reduce redundant features inside a local *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method compared with several state-of-the-art baseline methods.

Effect of radical scavenger on electrical tree in cross-linked polyethylene with large harmonic superimposed DC voltage

In this study,three kinds of radical scavenger Chimassorb 944,Tinuvin 622,and Tinuvin 770 are used to suppress the growth of electrical trees in cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE)with transient superimposed voltage under the temperature *** tree morphology,tree length,accumulated damage,and time to breakdown are used to investigate the effect of radical scavenger on the electrical treeing *** is found that under the temperature gradient caused by the temperature rise on the high voltage side,only Tinuvin 622 can always suppress the electrical tree as the temperature gradient *** the temperature gradient caused by the temperature rise on the ground side,the three radical scavengers can all suppress the electrical *** breakdown of electrical tree exhibits the strong DC polarity ***,energy levels of these three radical scavengers are calculated through quantum chemistry,and the results indicate that radical scavengers have greater electron affinity,smaller ionisation energy,and smaller energy gap than *** to the surface potential decay test results at 60℃,it is found that all three radical scavengers can introduce deep *** different performances of radical scavengers under different temperature gradients and voltages are determined by the trap distribution characteristics,the molecular structure and chemical reaction of the additives *** is concluded that Tinuvin 622 has potential for use in high voltage direct current XLPE cable application.

A programmable low-profile array antenna based on nematic liquid crystals(NLCs)is *** antenna unit comprises a square patch radiating structure and a tunable NLC-based phase shifter capable of achieving a phase shift exceeding 360°with high ***,the above 64 antenna units are periodically arranged into an 8×8 NLC-based antenna array,and the bias voltage of the NLC-based phase shifter loaded on the antenna unit is adjusted through the control of the field-programmable gate array(FPGA)programming *** configuration enables precise phase changes for all 64 *** simulation,sample processing,and experimental measurements of the antenna array are conducted to validate the performance of the *** numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna performs well within the frequency range of 19.5-20.5 GHz,with a 3 dB relative bandwidth of 10%and a maximum main lobe gain of 14.1 dBi.A maximum scanning angle of±34°is achieved through the adjustment of the FPGA programming *** NLC-based programmable array antenna shows promising potential for applications in satellite communication.

A sensitivity-enhanced hot-wire anemometer based on a cladding-etched optical fiber Bragg grating(FBG)coated with a layer of silver film and optically heated by using a 1480nm laser diode is *** silver film absorbs the laser power to heat the FBG to a certain high temperature and the airflow cools down the FBG hot-wire with the cooling effect and hence the Bragg wavelength of the FBG is determined by the airflow *** measurement results show that the heating efficiency of the FBG hot wire is improved by 3.8times in magnitude by etching the fiber cladding from 125μm down to 73.4μm,and the achieved airflow velocity sensitivities,under a laser power of 200mW,are–3180pm/(m/s),–889pm/(m/s),–268pm/(m/s),and–8.7pm/(m/s)at different airflow velocities of 0.1m/s,0.5m/s,1.5m/s,and 17m/s,*** comparison,the sensitivities are only–2193 pm/(m/s),–567 pm/(m/s),–161 pm/(m/s),and–4.9pm/(m/s)for the reference anemometer without cladding etching even at a much higher heating laser power of *** results prove that the method by using a cladding-etched FBG to improve sensitivity of FBG-based hot-wire anemometers works and the sensitivity is improved significantly.

In ocean search and rescue missions, how to efficiently locate missing submersibles is a challenging problem. The distribution of submersibles may remain relatively stable in some periods of time, but it may also show dynamic changes due to changes in environmental conditions such as terrain, density of seawater and ocean currents. Affected by factors such as minerals, the density of seawater generally increases linearly with the increase of depth. The partial derivative and gradient differential methods are used to simulate and analyze different terrain when it has great influence on submersible. The speed of ocean currents decreases with depth, and submarine currents are usually slow and steady. Ocean current data set is collected for data preprocessing. A large amount of real data is helpful to determine the direction and speed of ocean currents in each region quantitatively, and then analyze the motion trajectory of submersible, which proves the reliability of theory applied in practice. Considering the uncertainty of submersible position over time, this paper proposes a path planning method combining greedy algorithm and grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm together, and discusses the cooperative working mechanism of multiple searchers. The greedy algorithm is used to plan the path of a single search submersible, and the grey wolf optimization algorithm is introduced when considering the joint search of multiple search submersibles. Each step of greedy algorithm is to select the current optimal solution and build the overall path to the local optimal. Through programming, a route with a success rate of about 91% was obtained, and the shortest path was calculated to be about 50,155.69 meters. The GWO is solved by simulating the hunting behavior of wolves, combining the obstacle avoidance strategy of the submersible and the multi-agent cooperative method. Integrating Friction Noise for In Situ Monitoring of Polymer Wear Performance: A Machine Learning Approach in Tribology

Friction and wear between mating surfaces significantly affect the efficiency and performance of mechanical systems. Traditional tribological research relies on post-observation methods, limiting the understanding of dynamic friction behavior. In contrast, in situ monitoring provides real-time insights into evolving friction dynamics. This study employs machine learning to monitor polymer wear performance through friction noise. The predictive accuracy of various machine learning methods, including Extremely Randomized Trees, Gradient-Boosting Decision Trees, AdaBoost, LightGBM, Deep Forest, and Deep Neural Networks, is compared for wear-type classification. Additionally, the LSBoost regression is selected as the optimal method for predicting polymer wear-rates across various temperatures. The results underscore the potential of using friction noise and machine learning for real-time wear monitoring, offering valuable insights for tribological system maintenance and failure prediction. © 2024 by ASME.
