This study was conducted to evaluate and contrast meat quality and volatile flavor compounds from diverse cuts of Yanbian yellow cattle of differing sexes, with a particular emphasis on the longest dorsal muscle. Metabolomics was employed to investigate the small molecule metabolites driving these variations and to illuminate the mechanisms underpinning the observed differences. Results demonstrated that volatile flavor analysis revealed 35 unique compounds, including alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, and esters, with pronounced sex-based variations. Notably, alcohols and aldehydic flavor compounds in the longest dorsal muscle were substantially more prominent in heifers, whereas ketonic compounds were predominantly higher in bulls. The study also identified 45 metabolic pathways predominantly influencing meat quality through lipid metabolism, protein and amino acid metabolism, and glycolytic processes. These pathways collectively account for the distinctive sensory profiles of Yanbian yellow cattle, highlighting the complex interplay between genetics and metabolic pathways in shaping meat quality and flavor. © 2024, The Authors. Application of biological desulfurization technology in crumb rubber modified asphalt: Performance optimization and high-temperature emission suppression

The high viscosity of crumb rubber modified asphalt (CRMA) raises the temperature of construction mixing. This increases the harmful emissions in the paving process of asphalt construction, which limits its application in the road field to a certain extent. Therefore, in this paper, two microorganisms were utilized to conduct desulfurization treatment on crumb rubber (CR) to obtain bio-desulfurized crumb rubber (BCR). Upon this foundation, bio-desulfurized crumb rubber modified asphalts (BCRMA) were prepared. Firstly, the microscopic morphologies and chemical structures of BCR were characterized. After biological treatment, the number, area and porosity of the pores on the surface of BCR increased significantly. The pore size, sulfur element content and the crosslinking density decreased. Subsequently, the performance of BCRMA was studied. The low-temperature property and the compatibility of BCR with base asphalt (BA) were improved. The high-temperature property decreased, but the decrease was not significant. Finally, the concentration and types of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) at high temperatures were detected. After bio-desulfurization, the concentration of VOCs and H 2 S in the modified asphalt flue gas were significantly reduced. The types of sulfur-containing organic compounds (SCs) were reduced by 50 %, which effectively inhibited harmful emissions to the environment and human health.

Steel Slag Assists Potassium Ferrate To Improve Scfas Production from Anaerobic Sludge Fermentation

Potassium ferrate (PF) pretreatment in anaerobic sludge and its potential influence mechanisms have received widely attention. This study investigated the coupling effect of PF loading on steel slag (SS) on excess sludge anaerobic fermentation. Results showed that SS loading increase the treatment performance of PF on short chain volatile fatty acids (SCFAs) production from anaerobic fermented sludge. MPF-SS promoted the dissolution and release of organic substrates from intracellular to extracellular. Further exploration showed the promotion of PF and MPF-SS exposure to acid production microorganisms was much more than that to acid consumption microorganisms. MPF-SS addition can also effectively reinforce the carbohydrate transport, amino acid metabolism and the key enhanced genes associated with fatty acid biosynthesis pathways. The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem with broad real-world applications. Recently, neural networks have gained popularity in this research area because as shown in the literature, they provide strong heuristic solutions to TSPs. Compared to autoregressive neural approaches, non-autoregressive (NAR) networks exploit the inference parallelism to elevate inference speed but suffer from comparatively low solution quality. In this paper, we propose a novel NAR model named NAR4TSP, which incorporates a specially designed architecture and an enhanced reinforcement learning strategy. To the best of our knowledge, NAR4TSP is the first TSP solver that successfully combines RL and NAR networks. The key lies in the incorporation of NAR network output decoding into the training process. NAR4TSP efficiently represents TSP encoded information as rewards and seamlessly integrates it into reinforcement learning strategies, while maintaining consistent TSP sequence constraints during both training and testing phases. Experimental results on both synthetic and real-world TSPs demonstrate that NAR4TSP outperforms five state-of-the-art models in terms of solution quality, inference speed, and generalization to unseen scenarios. Exploiting solid powder fluorescence holds significant potential in diverse domains including medicine and forensics. Conventional fingerprint detection methods often fall short due to low contrast, sensitivity, and high toxicity. To addressing these challenges, we present a novel method for latent fingerprint detection using fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) encapsulated into conventional or mesoporous SiO2 colloidal spheres (CD@SiO2 or CDs@m-SiO2) through a surface functionalization-assisted cooperative assembly process. The synthesized monodisperse CDs@SiO2 and CDs@m-SiO2 spheres, with tuning particle size, adjustable porosity and pore size, and highly dispersed CDs, exhibit improved fingerprint visibility and contrast on various substrates such as glass, stainless steel, and plastic. CDs located in SiO2 with excellent affinity effectively avoids their solid-state self-quenching phenomenon, which, coupling with mesoporous SiO2 shell, maximumly retains their fluorescence properties. Our method demonstrates a high contrast, selectivity, and sensitivity in fingerprint detection, offering an environmentally friendly and healthy alternative to conventional techniques, and showcasing a facile route to novel solid-state CDs-based fluorescent materials for forensic analysis. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

This article developed a microreactor system for the continuous synthesis of Pregabalin. Due to the exceptional heat transfer and mixing capabilities exhibited by the system at the microscale, the Hofmann rearrangement reaction, traditionally requiring multiple sequential steps in batch reactors, can now be efficiently achieved in a consolidated single-step microreactor process. The reaction was executed at a comparatively elevated temperature range of 40-50 °C, and took 5-6 minutes to achieve the yield of over 90%, which was a significant improvement compared to the conventional batch reactor method, requiring 7-8 hours with a yield of 83%. The microreactor system utilized its excellent mass and heat transfer performance to reduce the level of the key impurity to below 0.15% at higher reaction temperatures, meeting the quality requirements for pharmaceutical production. Through experimental research, we determined the effects of reaction conditions like concentration, temperature, and residence time on the reaction rate, as well as key trace impurities. © 2024, The Authors. Compelling evidence has revealed that biased activation of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling,including angiotensin Ⅱ(Angll) receptor type 1 (AT1) signaling,plays pivotal roles in vascular homeostasis and injury,but whether a clinically relevant endogenous biased antagonism of AT1 signaling exists under physiological and pathophysiological conditions has not been clearly ***,we show that an extracellular matrix protein,cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP),acts as an endogenous allosteric biased modulator of the AT1 receptor and its deficiency is clinically associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)*** directly interacts with the extracellular N-terminus of the AT1 via its EGF domain and inhibits AT1-β-arrestin-2 signaling,but not Gq or Gi signaling,in a selective manner through allosteric regulation of AT1 intracellular conformational *** deficiency results in activation of AT1a-β-arrestin-2 signaling and subsequent exclusive AAA formation in response to Angll *** in COMP-/-or ApoE-/-mice are rescued by AT1a or β-arrestin-2 deficiency,or the application of a peptidomimetic mimicking the AT1-binding motif of *** of the endogenous biased antagonism of AT1 receptor or other GPCRs may reveal novel therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular diseases.

An imbalance in oral microbial homeostasis is significantly associated with the onset and progression of several systemic diseases. Fusobacterium nucleatum, a ubiquitous periodontitis-causing bacterium in the oral cavity, is frequently detected in focal sites and contributes to the pathogenesis of many extraoral diseases, including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). F. nucleatum is one of the few oral anaerobes that can be cultured purely in vitro and is a ‘model species’ for studying the impact of oral health on systemic health. The establishment and development of genetic manipulation tools for F. nucleatum and the construction of pathogenic gene-disrupted strains are important strategies for studying the pathogenicity of F. nucleatum. Here, we review the establishment and development of the genetic manipulation systems for F. nucleatum and summarize the characteristics of various genetic manipulation tools, such as suicide plasmid-based systems for gene inactivation, replicable plasmid-based systems controlling gene expression, and transposon-based random mutagenesis systems. Notably, we summarize and analyze their applications in the study of the pathogenic mechanisms of F. nucleatum. We hope to provide reference information and ideas for future research on genetic manipulation tools and the pathogenic mechanisms of F. nucleatum and other Fusobacterium species. © 2025 The Author(s)

Collagen and heparin co-modification of NK110 microspheres for enhanced bilirubin adsorption and improved blood compatibility in hemoperfusion

Hemoperfusion is a widely utilized method for removing excessive bilirubin from the blood. NK110 microsphere is a nonionic macroporous resin adsorbent, which is tailor-made from styrene and divinyl benzene at Nankai University. It has been extensively investigated. However, due to its deficient adsorption selectivity and blood compatibility, its further clinical applications are still limited. In this study, a novel NK110-collagen-heparin (NK110-Col-Hep) microsphere using layer-by-layer self-assembly of collagen and heparin onto the surface of NK110 microspheres, addressing both limitations concurrently. The dual-ligand-modified NK110-Col-Hep microspheres exhibited a significantly enhanced bilirubin adsorption capacity, increasing from 16.7 mg/g to 37.0 mg/g, along with a faster adsorption rate particularly within the first 30 min. The adsorption selectivity for bilirubin was also enhanced substantially, as evidenced by a reduction of bovine serum albumin (BSA) adsorption rate from 11.8 % to 4.4 %. The NK110-Col-Hep microspheres also exhibited excellent anticoagulant properties and improved blood compatibility. These improvements included a low hemolysis rate of 0.5 %, a prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) of 97.6 s, and a platelet retention time (PRT) of 21.5 min. This study underscores the potential of dual-ligand modification of collagen and heparin in hemoperfusion applications, providing a promising approach for developing high-performance bilirubin adsorbents. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Background Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome(HGPS) is a rare disorder characterized by premature aging and death mainly because of myocardial infarction, stroke, or heart failure. Patients with HGPS are healthy at birth, then get growth impairment, such as loss of subcutaneous fat, alopecia, osteoporosis and heart diseases in 1-2years. HGPS is caused by progerin, which is a toxic form of lamin A expressed in most differentiated cells. Here, we discuss current views about the molecular mechanisms, the mouse models and the treatment approaches of *** summarize the work in this area and provide directions and clues for future studies.
