Parity-time (PT) reversal symmetry, as a representative example in the field of non-Hermitian physics, has attracted widespread research interest in the past few years due to its extraordinary wave dynamics. PT symmetry enables unique spectral singularities including the exceptional point (EP) degeneracy where two or more eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce, as well as the coherent perfect absorber-laser (CPAL) point where laser and its time-reversal counterpart (i.e., coherent perfect absorber) can coexist at the same frequency. These singular points not only give rise to new physical phenomena but also provide new plausibility for building the next-generation sensors and detectors with unprecedented sensitivity. To date, investigations into EPs and CPAL points have unveiled their great potential in various sensing scenarios across a broad spectral range, spanning optics, photonics, electronics, and acoustics. In this review article, we will discuss ongoing developments of EP- and CPAL-based sensors composed of PT-synthetic structures and offer a glimpse into the future research directions in this emerging field. © (2024), (Electromagnetics Academy). Flavonol synthase gene MsFLS13 regulates saline-alkali stress tolerance in alfalfa

Alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.) is one of the most extensively grown leguminous forage *** saline-alkali stress significantly influences the growth,development,and yield of alfalfa,posing a threat to its agricultural ***,little is known about the potential mechanisms by which alfalfa responds to saline-alkali ***,we investigated these mechanisms by cloning a saline-alkali-induced flavonol synthase gene(Ms FLS13) from alfalfa,which was previously reported to be significantly upregulated under saline-alkali stress,and examining its function in the saline-alkali *** of Ms FLS13 in alfalfa promoted plant tolerance to saline-alkali stress by enhancing flavonol accumulation,antioxidant capacity,osmotic balance,and photosynthetic ***,Ms FLS13 inhibition using RNA interference reduced flavonol synthase activity and inhibited hairy root growth under saline-alkali *** one-hybrid and dual-luciferase reporter assays indicated that the R2R3-MYB Ms MYB12 transcription factor activates Ms FLS13 expression by binding to the MBS motif in the Ms FLS13 *** analysis revealed that abscisic acid mediates the salinealkali stress response partially by inducing Ms MYB12 and Ms FLS13 expression,which consequently increases flavonol levels and maintains antioxidant homeostasis in ***,our findings highlight the crucial role of Ms FLS13 in alfalfa in response to saline-alkali stress and provide a novel genetic resource for creating saline-alkali-resistant alfalfa through genetic engineering.

Ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity are the most prevalent side effects of aminoglycoside antibiotics(gentamicin,amikacin,neomycin)and platinum anti-tumor drugs(cisplatin,carboplatin).The inner ear and kidney share similarities in drug deposition and toxicity,but the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain *** the shared mechanisms and metabolic alterations in these distinct organs will provide valuable insights for clinical therapy.A strong correlation has been identified between the spatiotemporal accumulation patterns of neomycin and the specific occurrence of lipid metabolism disorders in these two *** primary allocation of neomycin to mitochondria results in a notable escalation in the accumulation of lipid droplets(LDs)and more interactions between mitochondria and LDs,leading to a sequence of disturbances in lipid metabolism,such as increased lipid ROS and the blocked transfer of fatty acids from LDs to ***-1αdeficiency worsens the neomycin-induced disorders in lipid metabolism and intensifies the pathological interactions between mitochondria and LDs,as indicated by the exacerbated disturbance of dynamic LD turnover,increased level of oxidized lipids and decreased use of fatty *** investigation provides a fresh perspective on the lipid metabolic dysfunction related to mitochondria-LD interactions in drug-induced ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity,potentially providing novel avenues for intervention strategies.

A combined protocol for isolation, culture, and patch-clamp recording of dorsal root ganglion neurons

The dorsal root ganglion(DRG) neurons are crucial in transmitting sensory information from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system, including touch, pain, temperature, and proprioception. Understanding the functions and mechanisms of DRG neurons is essential for studying sensory processing and developing efficient treatments for sensory disorders. In addition, electrophysiological patch-clamp recording is a powerful and classical tool to study the functions and mechanisms of the nervous system. Building upon the strategies outlined in published works and our group's abundant research experience in DRG neurons' functions by patch-clamp, we have summarized and put forward a comprehensive step-by-step protocol combining juvenile rat DRG neuron isolation and culture,and patch-clamp recording. This protocol would be a powerful guidance document for neuroscience researchers to study sensory DRG neurons' physiological and pathological functions using electrophysiological tools.

Bilateral training is a widely adopted approach in upper limb rehabilitation due to its effectiveness and ease of implementation. Variable stiffness actuators enhance this approach by facilitating compliant human-machine interaction, ensuring both comfort and safety. However, optimizing stiffness levels for individual subjects to maximize training effectiveness remains a significant challenge. The difficulty of different task phases varies across subjects, necessitating customized robotic assistance. This paper proposes an adaptive stiffness modulation strategy that leverages the cyclic nature of rehabilitation tasks. An adaptive frequency oscillator is employed for real-time phase detection, while a tuning rule, based on motion tracking error and muscular activation, dynamically adjusts stiffness levels. Experimental validation with two participants demonstrated that the proposed strategy effectively promotes affected arm motion and tailors assistance to the user's specific needs. © 2024 IEEE.

Genome-wide characterization of graft-transmissible mRNA-coding P450 genes of cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)
