The occurrence of microplastics (MPs) within aquatic ecosystems attracts a major environmental concern. It was demonstrated MPs could cause various ecotoxicological effects on microalgae. However, existing data on the effects of MPs on microalgae showed great variability among studies. Here, we performed a meta-analysis of the latest studies on the effects of MPs on photosynthesis and oxidative stress in microalgae. A total of 835 biological endpoints were investigated from 55 studies extracted, and 37% of them were significantly affected by MPs. In this study, the impact of MPs against microalgae was concentration-dependent and size-dependent, and microalgae were more susceptible to MPs stress in freshwater than marine. Additionally, we summarized the biological functions of microalgae that are primarily affected by MPs. Under MPs exposure, the content of chlorophyll a (Chl-a) was reduced and electron transfer in the photosynthetic system was hindered, causing electron accumulation and oxidative stress damage, which may also affect biological processes such as energy production, carbon fixation, lipid metabolism, and nucleic acid metabolism. Finally, our findings provide important insights into the effects of MPs stress on photosynthesis and oxidative stress in microalga and enhance the current understanding of the potential risk of MPs pollution on aquatic organisms. © 2023, The Authors. TOPIC: A Parallel Association Paradigm for Multi-Object Tracking under Complex Motions and Diverse Scenes

Video data and algorithms have been driving advances in multi-object tracking (MOT). While existing MOT datasets focus on occlusion and appearance similarity, complex motion patterns are widespread yet overlooked. To address this issue, we introduce a new dataset called BEE23 to highlight complex motions. Identity association algorithms have long been the focus of MOT research. Existing trackers can be categorized into two association paradigms: single-feature paradigm (based on either motion or appearance feature) and serial paradigm (one feature serves as secondary while the other is primary). However, these paradigms are incapable of fully utilizing different features. In this paper, we propose a parallel paradigm and present the Two rOund Parallel matchIng meChanism (TOPIC) to implement it. The TOPIC leverages both motion and appearance features and can adaptively select the preferable one as the assignment metric based on motion level. Moreover, we provide an Attention-based Appearance Reconstruct Module (AARM) to reconstruct appearance feature embeddings, thus enhancing the representation of appearance features. Comprehensive experiments show that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on four public datasets and BEE23. Notably, our proposed parallel paradigm surpasses the performance of existing association paradigms by a large margin, e.g., reducing false negatives by 12% to 51% compared to the single-feature association paradigm. The introduced dataset and association paradigm in this work offers a fresh perspective for advancing the MOT field. A Simple and Green Method to Prepare Non-Typical Yolk/Shell Nanoreactor with Dual-Shells and Multiple-Cores: Enhanced Catalytic Activity and Stability in Fenton-Like Reaction

Nowadays, non-typical yolk/shell structure has drawn much attentions due to the better catalytic performance than traditional counterparts (one yolk/one shell). In this study, ZIF-67@Co2SiO4/SiO2 yolk/shell structure was prepared in one-step at room temperature, in which ZIF-67 was served as the hard-template, H2O was served as etchant and tetraethyl orthosilicat was served as the raw material for Co2SiO4/SiO2. After calcination, the non-typical CoxOy@Co2SiO4/SiO2 yolk/shell nanoreactor with Co2SiO4/SiO2 dual-shells and CoxOy multiple-cores was obtained. On the one hand, more active sites were exposed on multiple-cores surface and better protection were provided by dual-shells. On the other hand, the sheet-like Co2SiO4 inner shell not only extended the travel path and retention time of pollutants trapped in cavity, but also separated the multiple-cores from aggregation. Therefore, the nanoreactor displayed the outstanding catalytic activity and recyclability in Fenton-like reaction. Metronidazole (20 mg/L) was completely degraded after 30 min, rhodamine B (50 mg/L) and methyl orange (20 mg/L) were removed even within 5.0 min. Catalytic mechanism indicated that 1O2 greatly contributed to the pollutant degradation. This paper presented a simple, versatile, green and energy-saving method for non-typical yolk/shell nanoreactor, and it could inspire to prepare other catalysts with high activity and stability for environmental remediation. © 2022, The Authors. A novel compact detector array with a symmetrical structure was designed and developed for the measurement of fast neutron flux in space radiation environments by the recoil proton method. It consists of seven solid-state detectors and a hydrogen-containing conversion layer, which can effectively eliminate the background from the charged particles and gamma-rays. The performances for fast neutron measurements in the low Earth orbit and on the lunar surface were simulated by Geant4 software. The signals from recoil protons can be well distinguished in a complex radiation environment. The accuracy of fast neutron flux can be improved with a higher signal-to-noise ratio. Utilizing this array, a neutron spectrometer for low Earth orbit applications was constructed and will be launched at the end of 2023. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A GENERAL THEORETICAL SCHEME FOR SHAPE-PROGRAMMING OF INCOMPRESSIBLE HYPERELASTIC SHELLS THROUGH DIFFERENTIAL GROWTH

In this paper, we study the problem of shape-programming of incompressible hyperelastic shells through differential growth. The aim of the current work is to determine the growth tensor (or growth functions) that can produce the deformation of a shell to the desired shape. First, a consistent finite-strain shell theory is introduced. The shell equation system is established from the 3D governing system through a series expansion and truncation approach. Based on the shell theory, the problem of shape-programming is studied under the stress-free assumption. For a special case in which the parametric coordinate curves generate a net of curvature lines on the target surface, the sufficient condition to ensure the vanishing of the stress components is analyzed, from which the explicit expression of the growth tensor can be derived. In the general case, we conduct the variable changes and derive the total growth tensor by considering a two-step deformation of the shell. With these obtained results, a general theoretical scheme for shape-programming of thin hyperelastic shells through differential growth is proposed. To demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed scheme, several nature-inspired examples are studied. The derived growth tensors in these examples have also been implemented in the numerical simulations to verify their correctness and accuracy. The simulation results show that the target shapes of the shell samples can be recovered completely. The scheme for shape-programming proposed in the current work is helpful in designing and manufacturing intelligent soft devices. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Minifilaments are widespread small-scale structures in the solar atmosphere. To better understand their formation and eruption mechanisms, we investigate the entire life of a sigmoidal minifilament located below a large quiescent filament observed by BBSO/GST on 2015 August 3. The Hα structure initially appears as a group of arched threads, then transforms into two J-shaped arcades, and finally forms a sigmoidal shape. SDO/AIA observations in 171 Å show that two coronal jets occur around the southern footpoint of the minifilament before the minifilament eruption. The minifilament eruption starts from the southern footpoint, then interacts with the overlying filament and fails. The aforementioned observational changes correspond to three episodes of flux cancellations observed by SDO/HMI. Unlike previous studies, the flux cancellation occurs between the polarity where southern footpoint of the minifilament is rooted in and an external polarity. We construct two magnetic field models before the eruption using the flux rope insertion method, and find an hyperbolic flux tube (HFT) above the flux cancellation site. The observation and modeling results suggest that the eruption is triggered by the external magnetic reconnection between the core field of the minifilament and the external fields due to flux cancellations. This study reveals a new triggering mechanism for minifilament eruptions and a new relationship between minifilament eruptions and coronal jets. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

With the progress of transgenic technology and the increase of transgenic products, it is more and more important to realize high-throughput and high-precision detection of genetically modified (GM) crops. In this study, an efficient platform based on recombinant polymerase amplification, CRISPR/Cas12a and lateral flow strip was established, which could realize the dual-target detection of CP4-EPSPS and Cry1Ab/Ac in GM crops. The test strip was developed by using different color microspheres to label antibodies to realize the visualization of results and avoiding cross-reactions. The visual limit of detection for standard plasmids was as low as 10 copies. Moreover, the entire detection process could be completed within 50 min. In conclusion, a sensitive, specific, stable, rapid and accurate field detection method for screening GM crops was established. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Unique unstable property of Fe precursor in wet ion exchange process and suitable Y zeolite support with low cost contribute interesting work of zeolite catalysts for NH3-SCR. Herein, the investigated relationship between Y zeolite and active species were implemented by changes of different precursor, ion concentration and solution temperature during ion exchange. FeY in our work achieved reaction temperature window (240-380 oC). And the transformation of Fe species in the fabrication and aging process as well as SCR mechanism were also studied. Fe ions including but not limited to isolated species had better low temperature performance than Fe oxo cations. Fe oxides also had SCR activity but the activity and N2 selectivity of oxides were worse than those of Fe ions. NH3 absorbed in Lewis sites and adsorbed NO2 contributed to L-H mechanism for Fe ions in FeY catalysts. This work shed light on regulating Fe species in FeY catalysts by simple ion exchange method to achieve better activity at low temperature. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Water Quality Prediction of Mbr Based on Machine Learning: A Novel Dataset Contribution Analysis Method

With the advent of the era of big data, data-driven analysis to realize the mining of internal laws of data has gradually become a development trend of sewage management and decision-making. This paper explores the regression algorithm in machine learning (ML) to predict the water quality of MBR treating high salt ammonia nitrogen wastewater. Using conventional online monitoring data as characteristic variables, the concentrations of NH 4 + -N out , NO 3 - -N out , NO 2 - -N out , COD out and TN out are targeted for prediction. The parameter adjusted learning curve and gridsearch strategy are used to optimize each training model. The importance of each input feature on the prediction target are analyzed. Finally, in order to make better use of the long-term accumulated water quality data of wastewater enterprises and reduce the management difficulty and operation cost, this paper proposes a dataset contribution degree (DCD) analysis method based on the combination of ML and evaluation indicators. The results show that the integration algorithms have better performance in the training process and the accuracy of prediction results. The combination of datasets improves the prediction performance of the model, and the accumulation of raw data under the impact of salinity will enhance the predictability of saline wastewater. © 2022, The Authors.
