Preventing network attacks and protecting user privacy are consistently hot research topics in the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing fields. Recent advancements in Federated Learning (FL) have shown promise in addressing these challenges. FL allows various clients to collaboratively build an intrusion detection system (IDS) without sharing their private data. However, most existing methods train a single intrusion detection model for all clients and assume that the training and test data distribution are identical, leading to unsatisfactory detection accuracy and generalization abilities in practice. To overcome these challenges, this paper introduces a prototype-guided personalized FL approach named PG-FedIDS. We propose two novel mechanisms within this method. Firstly, we utilize class prototypes as auxiliary information carriers to generate personalized models for each client, rather than generating a single global model as in previous works. Secondly, we propose a prototype-guided ensemble learning strategy, which can leverage the global knowledge in prototypes to enhance detection accuracy and generalization abilities for each client. We conduct extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets with different evaluation test settings. The results demonstrate that our PG-FedIDS achieves promising detection accuracy and consistently outperforms other FL baselines.

Remote State Estimation for Complex Networks Under Probabilistic Bit Flips: A Transmission Power Allocation Scheme

In this paper, the problem of remote state estimation is investigated for a class of complex networks with noisy wireless communication channels. The employment of the binary encoding scheme allows for the description of the influence of channel noises as probabilistic bit flips, where the probability of these bit flips is influenced by several factors with the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) being a crucial one. In engineering practice, the method of adjusting the transmission power for each node in a complex network is commonly applied to modify the SNR so as to reduce the data distortion caused by bit flips. Furthermore, due to restricted communication resources, the total available transmission power is often limited particularly in large-scale systems such as complex networks. Consequently, the allocation of transmission power for all nodes under a total transmission power constraint becomes a concern. Utilizing the ultimately bounded filtering method, we devise a transmission-power-dependent state estimator, by which the combined effect of probabilistic bit flips and transmission power allocation on estimation performance is analyzed. Moreover, the task of co-designing the transmission power allocation scheme and estimator gains is modeled as an optimization problem, which is then addressed through a two-step optimization strategy. The existence of a unique optimal transmission power allocation scheme is also proven. Finally, numerical simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed co-design approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This paper delves into an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system bolstered by a simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (STAR-RIS). Within this system, a base station (BS) is equipped with communication and radar capabilities, enabling it to communicate with ground terminals (GTs) and concurrently probe for echo signals from a target of interest. Moreover, to manage interference and improve communication quality, the rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme is incorporated into the system. The signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the received sensing echo signals is a measure of sensing performance. We formulate a joint optimization problem of common rates, transmit beamforming at the BS, and passive beamforming vectors of the STAR-RIS. The objective is to maximize sensing SINR while guaranteeing the communication rate requirements for each GT. We present an iterative algorithm to address the non-convex problem by invoking Dinkelbach’s transform, semidefinite relaxation (SDR), majorization-minimization, and sequential rank-one constraint relaxation (SROCR) theories. Simulation results manifest that the performance of the studied ISAC network enhanced by the STAR-RIS and RSMA surpasses other benchmarks considerably. The results evidently indicate the superior performance improvement of the ISAC system with the proposed RSMA-based transmission strategy design and the dynamic optimization of both transmission and reflection beamforming at STAR-RIS. © 2015 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been increasingly employed as aerial servers in mobile edge computing (MEC) systems, providing essential computing, communication, and storage services for edge users. This UAV-assisted MEC paradigm shows great promise in enhancing both computing and communication performances. However, the presence of malicious jammers poses significant challenges to the system's reliability and efficiency. In this study, we explore the resource management problem in a multi-UAV-assisted MEC scenario under the influence of multiple malicious jammers. To mitigate the impact of jamming attacks, we propose a resource management approach with the primary objective of minimizing system energy consumption and latency while adhering to UAV energy constraints. Due to the dynamic and time-varying nature of the communication environment, we present a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based algorithm that dynamically adjusts the CPU frequency and communication bandwidth of the UAV to optimize the system performance even under jamming attacks. Through simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in significantly reducing the overall system latency (both computational and communication latency) as well as minimizing energy consumption.

With the proliferation of distributed generations, traditional passive consumers in distribution networks are evolving into "prosumers", which can both produce and consume energy. Energy trading with the main grid or between prosumers is inevitable if the energy surplus and shortage exist. To this end, this paper investigates the peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading market, which is formulated as a generalized Nash game. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of the generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE). Then, an distributed online algorithm is proposed to track the GNE in the time-varying environment. Its regret is proved to be bounded by a sublinear function of learning time, which indicates that the online algorithm has an acceptable accuracy in practice. Finally, numerical results with six microgrids validate the performance of the algorithm.

机器学习因其能够快速、精准拟合数据的潜在模式而被广泛应用于材料构效关系研究。然而,材料科学家往往需要进行繁琐的模型选择及参数寻优才能构建出高精度预测模型,为了解放材料机器学习"调参师",本文研发了基于元学习的材料性能自动预测器,采集了60份文献公开数据集与60份标准数据集,基于此训练18种常用回归算法并获得其预测性能,定义与计算了27个刻画数据集特点的元特征,以此构建了一份蕴含建模经验的元数据集;同时,创建了表征数据集所属材料类型的类别树,将其嵌入基于距离的元学习算法,进一步耦合贝叶斯优化算法,实现领域知识和元数据协同驱动下的自动算法推荐和模型参数确定,实验结果表明,材料科学家仅需为新材料性能预测任务提供数据集,便可利用该预测器高效地构建具有与文献报道相当或更高预测精度的机器学习模型.

The lightweight block cipher PRESENT was presented at the International Conference on Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded systems (CHES) in 2007, and it has become a standard of ISO/IEC-29192-2 for lightweight cryptosystems since 2012. Within the environment of the Internet of Things, this cipher is applicable to Radio Frequency Identification, network sensors, and smart cards. Its secret key can be either 80 or 128 bits long, while the block is 128 bits long. Since the publication of the PRESENT, numerous forms of cryptanalysis have been developed in order to evaluate its level of security. Some examples of these attacks include the differential attack, the linear attack, the integral attack, the algebraic attack, the fault attack, the side-cube attack, and the Biclique attack. All of these cryptanalyses are on the basis of the assumption that an attack using a chosen plaintext or an attack using a known plaintext would occur. In order to carry out a chosen-plaintext attack, an attacker must have the ciphertexts along with the plaintexts that go along with them, whereas a known-plaintext attack requires a significant quantity of plaintexts and ciphertexts. The ciphertext-only attack is distinct from the chosen-plaintext attack and the known-plaintext attack, which require the ciphertext only in order to be successful. In this sense, the ciphertext-only attack is relevant in a range of scenarios. There is no research that has been released yet regarding PRESENT'S resilience to the ciphertext-only attack. This study presents a novel meet-in-the-middle statistical fault analysis using the approach of statistical analysis and meet-in-the-middle attack of PRESENT. This analysis is able to decrypt the 80-bit and 128-bit secret keys of PRESENT with a series of new distinguishers that include the Pearson correlation coefficient-Hamming weight, the Kullback Leibler divergence- Hamming weight, and the Jaccard similarity coefficient-Hamming weight-maximum likelihood estimatio

Efficient poisoning attacks and defenses for unlabeled data in DDoS prediction of intelligent transportation systems

Nowadays, large numbers of smart sensors(e.g., road-side cameras) which communicate with nearby base stations could launch distributed denial of services(DDoS) attack storms in intelligent transportation systems. DDoS attacks disable the services provided by base stations. Thus in this paper, considering the uneven communication traffic flows and privacy preserving, we give a hidden Markov model-based prediction model by utilizing the multi-step characteristic of DDoS with a federated learning framework to predict whether DDoS attacks will happen on base stations in the future. However, in the federated learning,we need to consider the problem of poisoning attacks due to malicious participants. The poisoning attacks will lead to the intelligent transportation systems paralysis without security protection. Traditional poisoning attacks mainly apply to the classification model with labeled data. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning-based poisoning method specifically for poisoning the prediction model with unlabeled data. Besides, previous related defense strategies rely on validation datasets with labeled data in the server. However, it is unrealistic since the local training datasets are not uploaded to the server due to privacy preserving, and our datasets are also unlabeled. Furthermore, we give a validation dataset-free defense strategy based on Dempster–Shafer(D–S) evidence theory avoiding anomaly aggregation to obtain a robust global model for precise DDoS prediction. In our experiments, we simulate 3000 points in combination with DARPA2000 dataset to carry out evaluations. The results indicate that our poisoning method can successfully poison the global prediction model with unlabeled data in a short time. Meanwhile, we compare our proposed defense algorithm with three popularly used defense algorithms. The results show that our defense method has a high accuracy rate of excluding poisoners and can obtain a high attack prediction probability.

Detecting heavy hitters that constitute the majority of network traffic is a critical task in network measurement. However, the highly skewed network traffic and the size-limited on-chip memory pose great challenges for heavy-hitter detection. The prior arts either use sketches to track all flows or maintain a fix-sized tracking list for recording elephant flows, resulting in limited detection precision or time-consuming tracking list exchanges. This paper presents HeavyTracker, an efficient algorithm that detects heavy hitters based on a count-with-threshold strategy. A two-dimensional tracker unit array is employed in our design to capture the heavy hitters, where each flow is randomly mapped to one unit in all rows. The tracker unit is designed to accept many flows and precisely report the largest two with frequencies that reach a predefined threshold. This design eliminates the frequent and time-consuming exchanges for maintaining the tracking list, allowing us to use a hash table to track the reported elephant flows. Experimental results based on real Internet traces show that HeavyTracker achieves a high $\mathbf{F}_{\beta}$-Score of threshold-t detection (0.97) and over 99% precision of top-k detection under a tight memory size. Besides, it reduces the frequency estimation error by 97.4% compared to the state-of-the-art.

The rapid advancement of photorealistic generators has reached a critical juncture where the discrepancy between authentic and manipulated images is increasingly indistinguishable. Thus, benchmarking and advancing techniques detecting digital manipulation become an urgent issue. Although there have been a number of publicly available face forgery datasets, the forgery faces are mostly generated using GAN-based synthesis technology, which does not involve the most recent technologies like diffusion. The diversity and quality of images generated by diffusion models have been significantly improved and thus a much more challenging face forgery dataset shall be used to evaluate SOTA forgery detection literature. In this paper, we propose a large-scale, diverse, and fine-grained high-fidelity dataset, namely GenFace, to facilitate the advancement of deepfake detection, which contains a large number of forgery faces generated by advanced generators such as the diffusion-based model and more detailed labels about the manipulation approaches and adopted generators. In addition to evaluating SOTA approaches on our benchmark, we design an innovative Cross Appearance-Edge Learning (CAEL) detector to capture multi-grained appearance and edge global representations, and detect discriminative and general forgery traces. Moreover, we devise an Appearance-Edge Cross-Attention (AECA) module to explore the various integrations across two domains. Extensive experiment results and visualizations show that our detection model outperforms the state of the arts on different settings like cross-generator, cross-forgery, and cross-dataset evaluations.
