Researchers have recently achieved significant advances in deep learning techniques, which in turn has substantially advanced other research disciplines, such as natural language processing, image processing, speech recognition, and software engineering. Various deep learning techniques have been successfully employed to facilitate software engineering tasks, including code generation, software refactoring, and fault localization. Many studies have also been presented in top conferences and journals, demonstrating the applications of deep learning techniques in resolving various software engineering tasks. However,although several surveys have provided overall pictures of the application of deep learning techniques in software engineering,they focus more on learning techniques, that is, what kind of deep learning techniques are employed and how deep models are trained or fine-tuned for software engineering tasks. We still lack surveys explaining the advances of subareas in software engineering driven by deep learning techniques, as well as challenges and opportunities in each subarea. To this end, in this study, we present the first task-oriented survey on deep learning-based software engineering. It covers twelve major software engineering subareas significantly impacted by deep learning techniques. Such subareas spread out through the whole lifecycle of software development and maintenance, including requirements engineering, software development, testing, maintenance, and developer collaboration. As we believe that deep learning may provide an opportunity to revolutionize the whole discipline of software engineering, providing one survey covering as many subareas as possible in software engineering can help future research push forward the frontier of deep learning-based software engineering more systematically. The primary objective in aircraft transportation is to minimize turbulent drag, thereby conserving energy and reducing emissions. We propose a sector-shaped counter-flow dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator, which leverages jet synthesis for drag reduction. A drag control experiment was conducted in a low-speed wind tunnel with a controlled flow velocity of 9.6 m/s(Re = 1.445 × 10^(4)). This study investigated the effects of varying pulse frequencies and actuation voltages on the turbulent boundary layer. Using a hot-wire measurement system, we analyzed the pulsating and time-averaged velocity distributions within the boundary layer to evaluate the streamwise turbulent drag reduction. The results show that the local TDR decreases as the pulse frequency increases, reaching a maximum reduction of approximately 20.97% at a pulse frequency of 50 Hz. In addition, as the actuation voltage increases, the friction coefficient decreases, increasing the drag reduction rate. The maximum drag reduction of approximately 33.34% is achieved at an actuation voltage of 10 kV.

A comparison on the effects of coal fines and sand fouling on the shear behaviors of railway ballast using large scale direct shear tests

Railway ballast is easily contaminated by different fouling material and the fouled ballast always causes the deterioration of railway *** previous studies focused on the effect of a certain kind of fouling material on ballast performance,but few studies compared the influence of different fouling *** paper presents a series of direct shear tests on the clean ballast and the fouled ballast mixed with coal fines or sand to understand the effects of different fouling material.A unified empirical model is proposed to well capture the shear stress-displacement responses of the clean and fouled *** equations are also obtained to characterize the variation of the nonlinear shear strength envelope of the fouled ballast with the fouling *** on these equations,a simple method is proposed to predict the shear strength of the fouled ballast using the shear test results of clean *** measured results demonstrate significant differences between the effects of coal fines and sand on the shear behaviors of ballast,to which particular attention should be paid in order to take targeted maintenance measures for the fouled *** mechanisms for the different effects of coal fines and sand are also analyzed to understand the roles that various fouling material plays in the fouled ballast.

An Uncertainty Quantization-Based Method for Anti-UAV Detection in Infrared Images

3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Nanomaterials are extensively utilized in a multitude of sectors, but their propensity to aggregate can considerably diminish the efficacy of functional materials. A pivotal challenge in this domain is achieving a homogenous distribution of nanomaterials, which is essential for enhancing their performance while also reducing production costs. In this work, we achieve uniform and stable dispersion of various nanomaterials through the confinement effect generated by the stereocomplex cross-linked network formed by the combination of poly (L-lactic) acid and poly (D-lactic) acid. The unique confinement effect of polylactic acid (PLA) isomers is universal and significantly enhances the dispersion of nanomaterials in both PLA solutions and films. To demonstrate the efficacy of our approach, we disperse aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecules within PLA, which leads to the production of PLA films exhibiting improved fluorescence property. This work provides an effective solution for the preparation of nanocomposite materials that are both high-performing and cost-efficient. © 2025

Online Queue-Aware Service Migration and Resource Allocation in Mobile Edge Computing

Mobile edge computing (MEC) integrated with Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) helps run a wide range of services implemented by Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) deployed at MEC networks. This emerging paradigm offers flexible edge resource management for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and improves service satisfaction of diverse applications. However, a critical challenge lies in processing extremely unpredictable and bursty traffic flow, especially in event-trigger sensing tasks. In this paper, we study queue-aware service migration and resource allocation in an MEC network, where different devices with different arrival patterns request different network services. To this end, we first formulate a novel long-term operation cost minimization problem subject to the stability of multiple queues by adopting a simultaneous migration scheme and determining resource allocation dynamically. To address the problem efficiently, we propose an online control framework to make decisions without any prior system information. We first adopt the Lyapunov optimization technique to decompose the long-term optimization problem into multi-per-slot subproblems. Then, we adopt a decoupled optimization algorithm based on the coordinate descent method and augmented Lagrangian method to solve the offline mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) subproblems. Extensive results reveal that the proposed online optimization framework can efficiently balance queue stability and cost consumption. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper explores a novel fuzzy fault-tolerant control scheme for hypersonic flight vehicles (HFVs) that accounts for parameter perturbations and system disturbances, thereby achieving flexible prescribed properties and designated-time convergence. In contrast to existing studies, this framework incorporates the more detrimental elevator stuck fault within the context of prescribed performance control (PPC). To mitigate the fragility issues associated with PPC in fault-tolerant control, we propose an innovative approach that integrates a fault sensing system along with a readjustment prescribed envelope. This is accomplished by transforming the original HFVs model into an imprecise pure feedback model, allowing for the design of low-complexity fuzzy controllers with minimal model dependence through the utilization of higher-order error functions and fuzzy logic systems. Finally, numerical simulations validate both the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
