This paper investigates the effect of low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) on device activity detection in massive machine-type communications (mMTC). The low-resolution ADCs induce two challenges on the device activity detection compared with the traditional setup with the assumption of infinite ADC resolution. First, the codebook design for signal quantization by the low-resolution ADC is particularly important since a good design of the codebook can lead to small quantization error on the received signal, which in turn has significant influence on the activity detector performance. To this end, prior information about the received signal power is needed, which depends on the number of active devices K. This is sharply different from the activity detection problem in traditional setups, in which the knowledge of K is not required by the BS as a prerequisite. Second, the covariance-based approach achieves good activity detection performance in traditional setups while it is not clear if it can still achieve good performance in this paper. To solve the above challenges, we propose a communication protocol that consists of an estimator for K and a detector for active device identities: 1) For the estimator, the technical difficulty is that the design of the ADC quantizer and the estimation of K are closely intertwined and doing one needs the information/execution from the other. We propose a progressive estimator which iteratively performs the estimation of K and the design of the ADC quantizer;2) For the activity detector, we propose a custom-designed stochastic gradient descent algorithm to estimate the active device identities. Traditional task allocation methods for unmanned swarm systems ignore the effects of actual paths, resulting in estimation accuracy reduction. This paper formulates task planning problem by incorporating physical and logical constraints, and establishes an integrated framework of task allocation and path planning. Conflict-based search method is used to address path planning with physical constraints. A genetic algorithm is employed to solve multi-traveling salesman allocation problem. A bounded suboptimal optimization, a data dictionary, and an island model are introduced to accelerate the convergence speed of the genetic algorithm. The experiments verify that compared to the decoupled task planning methods, the proposed method improves task execution efficiency and remains adaptability to various complex spatial maps.

A Multi-population Integrated Approach for Capacitated Location Routing

The capacitated location-routing problem involves determining the depots from a set of candidate capacitated depot locations and finding the required routes from the selected depots to serve a set of customers whereas minimizing a cost function that includes the cost of opening the chosen depots, the fixed utilization cost per vehicle used, and the total cost (distance) of the routes. This paper presents a multi-population integrated framework in which a multi-depot edge assembly crossover generates promising offspring solutions from the perspective of both depot location and route edge assembly. The method includes an effective neighborhood-based local search, a feasibility-restoring procedure and a diversification-oriented mutation. Of particular interest is the multi-population scheme which organizes the population into multiple subpopulations based on depot configurations. Extensive experiments on 281 benchmark instances from the literature show that the algorithm performs remarkably well, by improving 101 best-known results (new upper bounds) and matching 84 best-known results. A new type of weak signal detection system that combines the memristor and Van der pol-Duffing chaotic system has been proposed in this paper, and the dynamic characteristics of the system are studied. It is observed that the system can change from a chaotic state to a periodic state under different driving force amplitudes. Moreover, as compared with several classical chaotic oscillators, the numerical simulation results show that the system has stronger anti-noise performance with the detectable signal-to-noise ratio reaches -163dB, and has a wider detection range. Its detection accuracy is up to 1 × 10−9. More importantly, this paper provides the circuit implementation scheme of the system, and the weak signal can be detected with our designed circuit. This may offer a possible way for weak signal detection system with good performance in anti-noise performance, detection range and accuracy. © 2021, CC BY.

This paper presents an improved stability criterion and controller design scheme condition for a networked control system under denial of service (DoS) attack. Firstly, the DoS attack interval is divided into attack interval and no attack interval, therefore, a switching-like event-triggered control can be established to reduce the waste of network resources and improve network efficiency. Then, the studied system is transformed into a time-delay system, and an improved stability criterion and controller design method are established by using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF). Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a simulation example.

Beyond bilinear: Generalized multimodal factorized high-order pooling for visual question answering

Visual question answering (VQA) is challenging because it requires a simultaneous understanding of both visual content of images and textual content of questions. To support the VQA task, we need to find good solutions for the following three issues: 1) fine-grained feature representations for both the image and the question;2) multi-modal feature fusion that is able to capture the complex interactions between multi-modal features;3) automatic answer prediction that is able to consider the complex correlations between multiple diverse answers for the same question. For fine-grained image and question representations, a 'co-attention' mechanism is developed by using a deep neural network architecture to jointly learn the attentions for both the image and the question, which can allow us to reduce the irrelevant features effectively and obtain more discriminative features for image and question representations. For multi-modal feature fusion, a generalized Multi-modal Factorized High-order pooling approach (MFH) is developed to achieve more effective fusion of multi-modal features by exploiting their correlations sufficiently, which can further result in superior VQA performance as compared with the state-of-the-art approaches. For answer prediction, the KL (Kullback-Leibler) divergence is used as the loss function to achieve precise characterization of the complex correlations between multiple diverse answers with same or similar meaning, which can allow us to achieve faster convergence rate and obtain slightly better accuracy on answer prediction. A deep neural network architecture is designed to integrate all these aforementioned modules into a unified model for achieving superior VQA performance. With an ensemble of our MFH models, we achieve the state-of-the-art performance on the large-scale VQA datasets and win the runner-up in VQA Challenge 2017. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. Agent actions planning is a challenging problem in multi-agent reinforcement learning. Recent methods typically build their predictive models by full connection layers, but the shortage of utilizing action and observation information in complex multi-agent environment limits the performance of those methods. To address this issue, we propose a novel predictive model based on self-attention mechanism which can effectively use information in the environment. Specifically, we use the MADDPG algorithm to make a dataset where the input is the observations and actions and the output is the predicted observations and rewards. We also introduce the multi-head attention mechanism into the predictive model so that the predictive model can better combine different information for prediction. We perform extensive experiments to assess the proposed method and compare it with the representative baseline approach. Results demonstrate that our method outperforms competitors with higher accuracy in different tasks. Our implementation will be publicly available.

In this work, Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 particles with sandwich-like hierarchical structure are incorporated into the Ni-P coating by the simple electrodeposition. The addition of Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 particles can make the coating surface with much nodositas and layered "cauliflower" structure possessing the wettability of hydrophobicity. Then, the corrosion resistance increases much by the incorporation of Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 particles and the resistance of Ni-P-Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 composite coating first decreases and then increases with the prolonging immersion time. The corrosion mechanism of the Ni-P-Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 composite coating is analyzed and the role of Ti3C2Tx/MoS2 particles in Ni-P coating is discussed. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

3D face reconstruction from a single 2D facial image is a challenging and concerned problem. Recent methods based on CNN typically aim to learn parameters of 3D Morphable Model (3DMM) from 2D images to render face alignment and 3D face reconstruction. Most algorithms are designed for faces with small, medium yaw angles, which is extremely challenging to align faces in large poses. At the same time, they are not efficient usually. The main challenge is that it takes time to determine the parameters accurately. In order to address this challenge with the goal of improving performance, this paper proposes a novel and efficient end-to-end framework. We design an efficient and lightweight network model combined with Depthwise Separable Convolution and Muti-scale Representation, Lightweight Attention Mechanism, named Mobile-FRNet. Simultaneously, different loss functions are used to constrain and optimize 3DMM parameters and 3D vertices during training to improve the performance of the network. Meanwhile, extensive experiments on the challenging datasets show that our method significantly improves the accuracy of face alignment and 3D face reconstruction. Model parameters and complexity of our method are also improved greatly.

Calibration of simulation system is an important step to establish a reliable simulation system. In this paper, based on the existing mean field calibration theory, a new fast calibration method for complex urban traffic system based on mean field method is discussed by establishing the relationship between the macroscopic observation quantity and the proxy microscopic parameters. This method makes use of the machine learning method, and reduces the dimension of the state vector in the discrete time period, so that the dimension of the macroscopic state transition matrix is lower, and then reduces the computational complexity of the system calibration. Finally, the calibration results of the simulation system were verified by SUMO traffic simulation software.
