Fine-grained vehicle classification is a challenging task in computer vision due to the low intra-class variance. Some methods have been developed to improve the accuracy of fine-grained vehicle classification by improving the ability of discriminative features extraction, but there is still room for further improvement in the localization accuracy of vehicle discriminative regions. Based on deep convolutional neural networks, we focus on finding a more efficient structure that pays more attention to the discriminative image regions to enhance the ability of fine-grained vehicle classification. We propose a novel Multi-Scale Discriminative Regions Attention Network (MS-DRAN), which extracts feature maps through ResNet-50 backbone network and generates multi-scale feature maps by a Feature Pyramid Network (FPN). Then, MS-DRAN generates discriminative regions attention maps on the multi-scale feature maps. The attention maps from shallow layer perform pixel-level multiplication with the feature maps from deeper layer. By this way, the network gradually extracts a more discriminating feature maps for classification. We also design a multi-task loss function to associate the classification results for each scale and optimize the network parameter in training. Lastly, we validate the MS-DRAN on Stanford Cars-196 dataset and CompCars dataset and achieves 94.3% and 98.1% in accuracy, respectively. ©2021 ISSN 2414-8105 (Online).

Job-dependent tool switching is necessary in many batch processing systems (BPSs). Heterogeneous tool demand and extra time consumption for tool switch bring great challenge for high-performance production scheduling in BPSs. In this study, we present a novel batch scheduling problem derived from a satellite vibration test system. Different from basic scheduling problems in BPSs with tool switching, it has complications caused by many-to-many task-tool matching and job release time constraints. Specifically, each job has predetermined candidate tools. One of them should be selected and equipped to process a given job. Unlike sequence-dependent setup time that is only related to two adjacent jobs, tool switching time is additionally dependent on the tools selected by both jobs from their respective candidate tools. Both job sequence and tool selections need to be determined to minimize makespan. Mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and constraint programming (CP) models are developed for formulating the problem. We prove that the problem is NP hard. To obtain exact solutions, we propose a novel branch-and-bound algorithm (B&B) based on the analysis and extraction of problem properties. It integrates a domain reduction mechanism, branching strategies, and dominance rules. Among them, the domain reduction mechanism reduces the number of jobs to be scheduled;the branching strategies accelerate solving speed;and the dominance rules save the memory consumption. Ablation studies and key influencing factor experiments are performed. The results show that the proposed B&B can optimally solve much larger instances than state-of-the-art methods (including some heuristics). It can optimally solve industrial-size problems in a short time, implying that it can well satisfy the performance demand of a satellite vibration test system and thus advancing the filed of optimal scheduling for BPSs. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

college students majoring in computer science and software engineering need to master skills for high-quality ***,rich research has shown that both the teaching and learning of high-quality programming are challenging and deficient in most college education ***,the continuous inspection paradigm has been widely used by developers on social coding sites(e.g.,GitHub)as an important method to ensure the internal quality of massive code *** paper presents a case where continuous inspection is introduced into the classroom setting to improve students’programming *** the study,we first designed a specific continuous inspection process for students’collaborative projects and built an execution environment for the *** then conducted a controlled experiment with 48 students from the same course during two school years to evaluate how the process affects their programming *** results show that continuous inspection can help students in identifying their bad coding habits,mastering a set of good coding rules and significantly reducing the density of code quality issues introduced in the ***,we describe the lessons learned during the study and propose ideas to replicate and improve the process and its execution platform.

Minimax problems have attracted much attention due to various applications in constrained optimization problems and zero-sum games. Identifying saddle points within these problems is crucial, and saddle flow dynamics offer a straightforward yet useful approach. This study focuses on a class of bilinearly coupled minimax problems with strongly convex-linear objective functions. We design an accelerated algorithm based on saddle flow dynamics, achieving a convergence rate beyond the stereotype limit (the strong convexity constant). The algorithm is derived from a sequential two-step transformation of a given objective function. First, a change of variables is applied to render the objective function better-conditioned, introducing strong concavity (from linearity) while preserving strong convexity. Second, proximal regularization, when staggered with the first step, further enhances the strong convexity of the objective function by shifting some of the obtained strong concavity. After these transformations, saddle flow dynamics based on the new objective function can be tuned for accelerated exponential convergence. Besides, such an approach can be extended to weakly convex-weakly concave functions and still guarantees exponential convergence to one stationary point. The theory is verified by a numerical test on an affine equality-constrained convex optimization problem.

This paper investigates the cooperative link configuration problem for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) sensor networks with Energy Harvesting (EH), which aims to maximize long-term cumulative capacity by jointly optimizing cooperation relay, AUV transmission power, and relay transmission power. Subject to unknown time-varying Channel State Information (CSI), unpredictable stochastic EH, and variable communication topology caused by AUV mobility, the proposed problem is an unknown dynamic combination decision optimization problem. To resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology with unknown time-varying CSI and EH, a novel collaborative contextual multi-armed bandit learning framework is proposed, which allows relay nodes to learn cooperatively and enriches the learning information of relays. Consequently, the proposed learning framework can resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology efficiently, thereby achieving the superior link configuration quickly. Besides, a learning-rate adjustment rule for the dynamic UWA communication topology is proposed to adaptively balance the exploration-exploitation, thereby avoiding missing the real superior joint relay-power configuration. Finally, simulation results show the significantly superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

A refractive index(RI)sensor based on elliptical core photonic crystal fiber(EC-PCF)has been *** asymmetric elliptical core introduces the polarization-dependent characteristics of the fiber core *** performances of intermodal interference between the intrinsic polarization fiber core modes are investigated by contrast in two interferometers based on the Mach-Zehnder(M-Z)and Sagnac interference *** addition,the RI sensing characteristics of the two interferometers are studied by successively filling the three layers air holes closest to the elliptical core in the *** results show that the M-Z interference between LP_(01)and LP_(11)mode in the same polarized direction is featured with the incremental RI sensing sensitivity as the decreasing interference length,and the infilled scope around the elliptical core has a weak correlation with the RI sensing *** to the high birefringence of LP11 mode,the Sagnac interferometer has better RI sensing performance,the maximum RI sensing sensitivity of 12000 nm/RIU is achieved under the innermost one layer air holes infilled with RI matching liquid of RI=1.39 at the pre-setting EC-PCF length of 12 cm,which is two orders of magnitude higher than the M-Z interferometer with the same fiber *** series of theoretical optimized analysis would provide guidance for the applications in the field of biochemical sensing.

Adapting Human Mesh Recovery with Vision-Language Feedback

Human mesh recovery can be approached using either regression-based or optimization-based methods. Regression models achieve high pose accuracy but struggle with model-to-image alignment due to the lack of explicit 2D-3D correspondences. In contrast, optimization-based methods align 3D models to 2D observations but are prone to local minima and depth ambiguity. In this work, we leverage large vision-language models (VLMs) to generate interactive body part descriptions, which serve as implicit constraints to enhance 3D perception and limit the optimization space. Specifically, we formulate monocular human mesh recovery as a distribution adaptation task by integrating both 2D observations and language descriptions. To bridge the gap between text and 3D pose signals, we first train a text encoder and a pose VQ-VAE, aligning texts to body poses in a shared latent space using contrastive learning. Subsequently, we employ a diffusion-based framework to refine the initial parameters guided by gradients derived from both 2D observations and text descriptions. Finally, the model can produce poses with accurate 3D perception and image consistency. Experimental results on multiple benchmarks validate its effectiveness. CCT5: A Code-Change-Oriented Pre-Trained Model

software is constantly changing, requiring developers to perform several derived tasks in a timely manner, such as writing a description for the intention of the code change, or identifying the defect-prone code changes. Considering that the cost of dealing with these tasks can account for a large proportion (typically around 70 percent) of the total development expenditure, automating such processes will significantly lighten the burdens of developers. To achieve such a target, existing approaches mainly rely on training deep learning models from scratch or fine-tuning existing pre-trained models on such tasks, both of which have weaknesses. Specifically, the former uses comparatively small-scale labelled data for training, making it difficult to learn and exploit the domain knowledge of programming language hidden in the large-amount unlabelled code in the wild;the latter is hard to fully leverage the learned knowledge of the pre-trained model, as existing pre-trained models are designed to encode a single code snippet rather than a code change (i.e., the difference between two code snippets). We propose to pre-train a model specially designed for code changes to better support developers in software maintenance. To this end, we first collect a large-scale dataset containing 1.5M+ pairwise data of code changes and commit messages. Based on these data, we curate five different tasks for pre-training, which equip the model with diverse domain knowledge about code changes. We fine-tune the pre-trained model, CCT5, on three widely-studied tasks incurred by code changes and two tasks specific to the code review process. Results show that CCT5 outperforms both conventional deep learning approaches and existing pre-trained models on these tasks. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Dual-demodulation large-scope high-sensitivity refractive index sensor based on twin-core PCF

In this paper, a refractive index(RI) sensor based on the twin-core photonic crystal fiber(TC-PCF) is presented. Introducing the rectangular array in the core area makes the PCF possible to obtain high birefringence and low confinement loss over the wavelength range from 0.6 μm to 1.7 μm. Therefore, the core region can enhance the interaction between the core mode and the filling material. We studied theoretically the evolution characteristics of the birefringence and operating wavelength corresponding to the strongest polarization point under the condition of filling the rectangular array with RI matching fluid range from 1.33 to 1.41. Simulation results reveal that the proposed TC-PCF has opposite evolutions of change rates between the B and wavelength, and the maximum RI sensing sensitivities of 1.809× 10-2 B/RIU and 8 700 nm/RIU at low and high RI infill are obtained respectively, which means that the TC-PCF features of dual-parameter demodulation for the RI sensing can maintain a high refractive index sensing sensitivity within a large scope of RI ranging from 1.33 to 1.41. Compared with the results of single-parameter demodulation, it is an optimized method to improve the sensitivity of low refractive index sensors, which has great application potency in the field of biochemical sensing and detection.
