A Real-Time Multi-Stage Architecture for Pose Estimation of Zebrafish Head with Convolutional Neural Networks

In order to conduct optical neurophysiology experiments on a freely swimming zebrafish,it is essential to quantify the zebrafish head to determine exact lighting *** efficiently quantify a zebrafish head's behaviors with limited resources,we propose a real-time multi-stage architecture based on convolutional neural networks for pose estimation of the zebrafish head on *** stage is implemented with a small neural ***,a light-weight object detector named Micro-YOLO is used to detect a coarse region of the zebrafish head in the first *** the second stage,a tiny bounding box refinement network is devised to produce a high-quality bounding box around the zebrafish ***,a small pose estimation network named tiny-hourglass is designed to detect keypoints in the zebrafish *** experimental results show that using Micro-YOLO combined with RegressNet to predict the zebrafish head region is not only more accurate but also much faster than Faster R-CNN which is the representative of two-stage *** with DeepLabCut,a state-of-the-art method to estimate poses for user-defined body parts,our multi-stage architecture can achieve a higher accuracy,and runs 19x faster than it on CPUs.

Vehicular Ad-hoc networks（VANETs） are kinds of mobile Ad-hoc networks（MANETs）, which consist of mobile vehicles with on-board units（OBUs） and roadside units（RSUs）. With the rapid development of computation and communication technologies, peripheral or incremental changes in VANETs evolve into a revolution in process. Cloud computing as a solution has been deployed to satisfy vehicles in VANETs which are expected to require resources（such as computing, storage and networking）. Recently, with special requirements of mobility, location awareness, and low latency, there has been growing interest in research into the role of fog computing in VANETs. The merging of fog computing with VANETs opens an area of possibilities for applications and services on the edge of the cloud computing. Fog computing deploys highly virtualized computing and communication facilities at the proximity of mobile vehicles in VANET. Mobile vehicles in VANET can also demand services of low-latency and short-distance local connections via fog computing. This paper presents the current state of the research and future perspectives of fog computing in VANETs. Moreover, we discuss the characteristics of fog computing and services based on fog computing platform provided for VANETs. In this paper, some opportunities for challenges and issues are mentioned, related techniques that need to be considered have been discussed in the context of fog computing in VANETs. Finally, we discuss about research directions of potential future work for fog computing in VANETs. Within this article, readers can have a more thorough understanding of fog computing for VANETs and the trends in this domain.

For the past few years, the research of intelligence model based on biologicalinformation processing mechanisms has become an important area of artificial intelligence. The biological information processing system is mainly composed of nervous system, immune system and endocrine system. There is not only large loop among them, but also direct reciprocity, which plays an important role in the growing development and metabolism of organisms and maintains their vital movement together. As an important part of information processing system in living organisms, the endocrine system contains very complex and particular information processing mechanisms, including hormonal regulation mechanism, information delivery mechanism and emotion reacting mechanism. Extracting these mechanisms which are peculiar to endocrine system and establishing corresponding models and algorithms has important research value, which has been a hot issue in the research field of artificial intelligence. Shibata presented a hormone-like mechanism with an emphasis on human-robot interaction. Shen proposed a bio-inspired control method called Digital Hormone Model (DHM) to control the tasking and executing of robot swarms based on local communication,signal propagation, and stochastic reactions. Neal and Timmis put forward artificial endocrine system (AES) for the first time in 2003. They proposed an artificial homeostasis system later. Motivated by the high-level regulation mechanism of endocrine system, an agent self-organization algorithm of behavior was put forward. A hormone based tracking strategy for mobile target tracking in wireless sensor networks was presented. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.

Interactive population-based incremental learning (IPBIL) is an effective method to solve optimization problems with implicit performance indices. It can significantly reduce user fatigue compared with interactive evolutionary computation (IEC). However, each run of IPBIL can only find one solution or some similar solutions. Thus it is not suitable for multimodal optimization problems with implicit performance indices. To solve this problem, we propose an IPBIL with multiple probability vectors (IPBIL-MPV) in this work. The key idea is to utilize multiple probability vectors to catch different search directions and thus find more than one solutions. We perform a subjective experiment in which IPBIL-MPV is applied to a fashion design problem. The experimental results show that IPBIL-MPV can find several distinct solutions in a run. Thus it is an effective method to solve multimodal optimization problems with implicit performance indices. © 2010 IEEE.

Emotions are an important aspect of human intelligence and have been shown to play a significant role in human decision-making process. Researchers in areas such as psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science and artificial intelligence have proposed a variety of emotional models. However, most of the previous models have not solved the complexity of the human emotional system owing to the lack of an effective regulatory mechanism for controlling the emotions. To address the limitation, a hormone-modulated emotional model (HMEM) is presented. Since emotions are imprecise and uncertain in nature, fuzzy logic is employed in the computation of new emotion intensity. The reported experiments test HMEM within a simulated autonomous agent situated in a dynamic environment. Experimental results show that both the hormonal system and emotional system contribute positively to the survival of the agent. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, a self-organized algorithm for task allocation, based on the hormone reaction-diffusion mechanism, is proposed for a multi-robot system. Hormone messages are used to coordinate the movement of robots. By the regulation of hormones, agents could adjust their behaviors in time and improve the ability of self-organization. A simulation of task allocation in the multi-robot system is performed, experimental results demonstrate that our method can accomplish the task effectively and reduce the total cost. © 2010 IEEE.

Clustering problem is one of the hottest issues in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The strategy for selection of cluster head has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, we propose a hormone-based clustering algorithm (HCA) inspired by the communication mechanism of bio-endocrine system to prolong the lifetime of the sensor nodes. Two kinds of hormones, cluster hormone and member hormone, are used in the algorithm. Hormone message can promote a node to become a cluster head or a member node. Comparative experiment shows that the proposed algorithm has effectively prolong the lifetime of WSN compared with LEACH[1] and HEED[2]. © 2010 IEEE.

In the process of supply chain (SC) management, time inventory management problem is extremely important. In terms of academic methods, quantitative methods are very popular as the researchers could calculate the inventory if they got the historic data of some SC. However, based on quantitative methods and the results cannot too be convincible. This paper considered a supply chain system includes several kinds of products. As to the historic suppliers' demand data of this SC system, firstly we applied a quantitative forecasting analysis method to it;secondly we made a qualitative analysis to improve the complex system's inventory management performance. According to the comparison between quantitative method and the method used in this paper, we find that the accuracy is more perfect. Not only the inventory cost is lower, also the forecasting accuracy is better. © 2010 IEEE.

Reliability is one of the essential attributes of the dependable software, and an important factor for quantitatively characterizing software quality. Conventional methodology is software Reliability Growth Model (SRGM), which specifies the form of a random process that describes the behavior of software failures with respect to time. In this paper, we propose that the behavior of software failures possesses determinacy as well as randomness. So we apply chaos theory to software reliability assessment. Based on chaos theory, we can estimate software reliability according to the objective law hidden in the data, unlike the SRGM which usually makes a number of assumptions. This approach avoids the subjectivity in the SRGM. Also, we analyze the actual software failures data sets with the add-weighted one-rank localregion method (AOLM) based on chaos theory and compare the results with the conventional stochastic SRGM JM (Jelinsky-Moranda) model and NHPP (nonhomogeneous poisson process) mode. Comparison results show that the proposed method fits better than the stochastic ones. © 2010 IEEE.

Time synchronisation is a critical topic in wireless sensor networks for its wide applications, such as data fusion, TDMA scheduling and cooperated sleeping, etc. In this paper, we present an Accurate Time Synchronisation (ATS) protocol based on linear least square for sensor networks. Unlike the previous protocols, all nodes aren't synchronised to some reference nodes or sink node, but to a virtual clock. Moreover, each pair of the nodes is synchronised to each other. The main advantages of ATS are simplicity and accuracy. Especially, the variance of the synchronised drift error is less than Dsδ/ 2β 2, where Ds, δ and β are the depth of the network, the maximal variance of the link delay and the sampling interval, respectively. The experiments show that ATS protocol has achieved at least 37% performance enhancement than the previous pairwise algorithm. Copyright © 2007 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
