Approximate Nearest Neighbour (ANN) search is an important research topic in multimedia and computer vision fields. In this paper, we propose a new deep supervised quantization method by Self-Organizing Map (SOM) to address this problem. Our method integrates the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Self-Organizing Map into a unified deep architecture. The overall training objective includes supervised quantization loss and classification loss. With the supervised quantization loss, we minimize the differences on the maps between similar image pairs, and maximize the differences on the maps between dissimilar image pairs. By optimization, the deep architecture can simultaneously extract deep features and quantize the features into the suitable nodes in the Self-Organizing Map. The experiments on several public standard datasets prove the superiority of our approach over the existing ANN search methods. Besides, as a byproduct, our deep architecture can be directly applied to classification task and visualization with little modification, and promising performances are demonstrated on these tasks in the experiments. © 2017 ACM.

With the advantage in compact representation and efficient comparison, binary hashing has been extensively investigated for approximate nearest neighbor search. In this paper, we propose a novel and general hashing framework, which simultaneously considers a new linear pair-wise distance preserving objective and point-wise constraint. The direct distance preserving objective aims to keep the linear relationships between the Euclidean distance and the Hamming distance of data points. Based on different pointwise constraints, we propose two methods to instantiate this framework. The first one is a pseudo-supervised hashing method, which uses existing unsupervised hashing methods to generate binary codes as pseudo-supervised information. The second one is an unsupervised hashing method, in which quantization loss is considered. We validate our framework on two large-scale datasets. The experiments demonstrate that our pseudo-supervised method achieves consistent improvement for the state-of-the-art unsupervised hashing methods, while our unsupervised method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. ©2016 ACM.

For moving targets in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, the obvious features are defocusing and dislocation. To estimate motion parameters accurately is a premise for the precise imaging of moving targets. However, when the radial velocity of the target exceeds the maximum detectable unambiguous velocity, the estimated value by the existing methods is no longer the real value. A radial velocity ambiguity resolution method based on Imaging Space-Time Adaptive processing (ISTAP) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method has no search or iterative process and is suitable for the azimuth multichannel SAR with low pulse repetition frequency (PRF). Finally, the simulated data from an x-band azimuth six-channel SAR system verify the feasibility of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE.

Polarimetric Interferometric SAR (PolInSAR) can improve the coherence of images and it plays an important role in urban remote sensing. The explanation of its scattering mechanism is concerned by many researchers. It is always explained from the aspect of different polarization decompositions but seldom from the height of scattering centers. In this paper, a Ku-band UAV-borne PolInSAR system is used to compare the relationship of scattering centers between PolInSAR and Pauli decomposition on different artificial targets. The physical meaning of PolInSAR is preliminary analyzed and our conclusion is also verified through a C-band manned airborne PolInSAR system. © 2021 IEEE.

We present an interactive example-based system for non-expert users to generate 3D indoor scenes intuitively. From a set of examples of an interior scene, we extract furniture layout constraints including pairwise and group relationships, ergonomic factors and user habits. Instead of inserting a single furniture object to a visual pleasing and functional position independently, we take advantages of manipulating a group of functionality-related furniture objects for smart editing. To deal with the arrangement problem which requires jointly optimizing a variety of functional and visual criteria, we introduce an efficient two-step pipeline consisting of rough arrangement and layout refinement. In the rough arrangement step, furniture objects are roughly placed according to pairwise relationships for accelerating the further optimization process. In the layout refinement step, we optimize the rough furniture layout to a semantical and functional layout considering spatial relationships, and ergonomic factors and avoiding collisions. User interactions are also allowed to move a specific object or a structural group while our system automatically refines the entire layout. The experimental results demonstrate that our system for scene generation measurably increases the visual quality and time efficiency compared with the completely manual scene editing or modeling. © 2017 ACM.

Retrieval of Significant Wave Height Under Typhoon Conditions from Gaofen-3 SAR Imagery

The objective of this paper is to propose an empirical method to inverse significant wave height(SWH)under typhoon conditions from collected dual-polarization Gaofen(GF)-3 synthetic aperture radar(SAR)*** typhoon scenes were cap-tured from narrow scan(NSC)and wide scan(WSC)images,and collocated with European Center for Medium-Range Weather Fore-casts reanalysis data of(ECMWF).To improve the quality of GF-3 SAR images,the recalibration over rainforest and de-scalloping were carried *** establish the empirical relationship between SAR-derived parameters and collocated SWH,the sensitivity analysis of typical parameters about the normalized radar cross section(Nrcs)and imagery variance(Cvar)were performed to both VV and VH polarized *** scenes from GF-3 SAR imagery under typhoon conditions were used for training the model by the multivari-ate least square regression,and one scene was used for preliminary *** was found that the joint retrieval model based on VV and VH polarized SAR imagery performed better than any single polarized *** results,verified by using ECMWF data,revealed the soundness of this approach,with a correlation of 0.95,bias of 0 m,RMSE of 0.44 and SI of 0.01 when VV polarization and VH polarization data were both used.

Transmit distortions in the hybrid polarimetric (HP) SAR cannot be compensated simply with external calibration methods. Therefore, it is necessary to analysis their influence on HP data. In this study, we have proposed an analysis method based on the Axial Ratio (AR) of the real transmitted polarized wave. Firstly, impact of different distortion sources is quantified with the AR parameter. Next, a case study is illustrated using real GF-3 measured data. At last, the influence of transmit distortions to canonical scattering mechanisms is analyzed. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper, A SAR image simulation code of 3D complex targets named CASpatch is introduced. This code is based on the high frequency technique of shooting and bouncing rays (SBR). The original purpose to design the code is for SAR automatic target recognition (ATR) applications, but it can also be used for RCS prediction and high resolution range profile (HRRP) generation. A GB-SAR indoor experiment is used to validate the CASpatch system. The simulation results of complex targets show that high resolution, full polarimetry and wide bandwidth SAR images can be obtained via CASpatch, which means our code can support multiple SAR ATR applications. What's more, an improved PolSAR ATR algorithm is also proposed in this paper. The full PolSAR ATR experiment based on simulated data is firstly reported in this paper, and higher recognition rate is achieved comparing with the single PolSAR result. ©2009 IEEE.

An unsupervised image-to-image translation (UI2I) task deals with learning a mapping between two domains without paired images. While existing UI2I methods usually require numerous unpaired images from different domains for training, there are many scenarios where training data is quite limited. In this paper, we argue that even if each domain contains a single image, UI2I can still be achieved. To this end, we propose TuiGAN, a generative model that is trained on only two unpaired images and amounts to one-shot unsupervised learning. With TuiGAN, an image is translated in a coarse-to-fine manner where the generated image is gradually refined from global structures to local details. We conduct extensive experiments to verify that our versatile method can outperform strong baselines on a wide variety of UI2I tasks. Moreover, TuiGAN is capable of achieving comparable performance with the state-of-the-art UI2I models trained with sufficient data. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Passive Super-Low Frequency electromagnetic prospecting technique

The Super-Low Frequency （SLF） electromag- netic prospecting technique, adopted as a non-imaging remote sensing tool for depth sounding, is systematically proposed for subsurface geological survey. In this paper, we propose and theoretically illustrate natural source magnetic amplitudes as SLF responses for the first step. In order to directly calculate multi-dimensional theoretical SLF responses, modeling algorithms were developed and evaluated using the finite difference method. The theore- tical results of three-dimensional （3-D） models show that the average normalized SLF magnetic amplitude responses were numerically stable and appropriate for practical interpretation. To explore the depth resolution, three-layer models were configured. The modeling results prove that the SLF technique is more sensitive to conductive objective layers than high resistive ones, with the SLF responses of conductive objective layers obviously show- ing uprising amplitudes in the low frequency range. Afterwards, we proposed an improved Frequency-Depth transformation based on Bostick inversion to realize the depth sounding by empirically adjusting two parameters. The SLF technique has already been successfully applied in geothermal exploration and coalbed methane （CBM） reservoir interpretation, which demonstrates that the proposed methodology is effective in revealing low resistive distributions. Furthermore, it siginificantly contributes to reservoir identification with electromagnetic radiation anomaly extraction. Meanwhile, the SLF inter- pretation results are in accordance with dynamic production status of CBM reservoirs, which means it could provide an economical, convenient and promising method for exploring and monitoring subsurface geo-objects.
