The injective chromatic number χi(G) of a graph G is the minimum number of colors needed to color the vertices of G such that different vertices with the same neighbor are colored differently. The coloring theory of graphs is a very important direction in graph theory. The graph coloring problem has a strong application background. Many practical problems such as timetabling problems, frequency allocation problems, traffic arrangements, circuit design, and storage problems can be transformed into graph coloring problems. A substantial amount of scholarly work has been dedicated to the exploration of acyclic coloring, resulting in a plethora of significant findings that significantly contribute to the theoretical framework of vertex coloring in graphs. An acyclic coloring of a graph G refers to a proper vertex coloring where the subgraph resulting from any pair of color classes does not encompass any cycles. We analyze acyclic coloring in splitting graphs and Cartesian products of paths and cycles by using the method of structural coloring, reductive proof, and mathematical induction. Moreover, we present the precise acyclic chromatic numbers for splitting graphs of cycles and Cartesian products of paths and cycles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The development of information technology brings diversification of data sources and large-scale data sets and calls for the exploration of distributed learning algorithms. In distributed systems, some local machines may behave abnormally and send arbitrary information to the central machine(known as Byzantine failures), which can invalidate the distributed algorithms based on the assumption of faultless systems. This paper studies Byzantine-robust distributed algorithms for support vector machines(SVMs) in the context of binary classification. Despite a vast literature on Byzantine problems, much less is known about the theoretical properties of Byzantine-robust SVMs due to their unique challenges. In this paper, we propose two distributed gradient descent algorithms for SVMs. The median and trimmed mean operations in aggregation can effectively defend against Byzantine failures. Theoretically, we show the convergence of the proposed estimators and provide the statistical error rates. After a certain number of iterations, our estimators achieve near-optimal rates. Simulation studies and real data analysis are conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed Byzantine-robust distributed algorithms.

We propose a new numerical domain decomposition method for solving elliptic equations on compact Riemannian manifolds. One advantage of this method is its ability to bypass the need for global triangulations or grids on the manifolds. Additionally, it features a highly parallel iterative scheme. To verify its efficacy, we conduct numerical experiments on some four-dimensional manifolds without and with boundary. © 2025 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Publications. The inherent complexity of Wi-Fi signals makes video-aided Wi-Fi 3D pose estimation difficult. The challenges include the limited generalizability of the task across diverse environments, its significant signal heterogeneity, and its inadequate ability to analyze local and geometric information. To overcome these challenges, we introduce WiViPose, a video-aided Wi-Fi framework for 3D pose estimation, which attains enhanced cross-environment generalization through cross-layer optimization. Bilinear temporal-spectral fusion (BTSF) is initially used to fuse the time-domain and frequency-domain features derived from Wi-Fi. Video features are derived from a multiresolution convolutional pose machine and enhanced by local self-attention. Cross-modality data fusion is facilitated through an attention-based transformer, with the process further refined under a supervisory mechanism. WiViPose demonstrates effectiveness by achieving an average percentage of correct keypoints (PCK)@50 of 91.01% across three typical indoor environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Crowdsensing has become a popular method of sensing data collection while facing the problem of protecting participants' location privacy. Existing location-privacy crowdsensing mechanisms focus on static tasks and participants without considering sensing tasks' time requirements and participants' mobility, which cannot achieve satisfactory collected data quality and task completion in crowdsensing with dynamic tasks and participants. Inspired by this, we proposed a location-preservation crowdsensing mechanism, FedSense, considering dynamic tasks and participants based on federated learning (FL) and reinforcement learning (RL). In FedSense, through RL's outstanding decision-making ability, participants select sensing tasks to perform by well-trained RL models without uploading location information to servers for task allocation. We propose an independent tasks selection environment that defines actions, states, and rewards of RL to enable FedSense to achieve satisfactory task completion and data quality while preserving location privacy. Besides, FedSense applies an asynchronous FL aggregation algorithm that reduces participants' network stabilization and device computing ability requirements. Analysis proves that participants' location information does not leave the local device during the model training and task selection process, effectively avoiding privacy leakage. Simulation shows that compared with existing location-preservation crowdsensing mechanisms, FedSense achieves the highest task completion and sensing accuracy for dynamic tasks and participants. © 2024 IEEE.

Semi-Supervised Feature Selection With Multi-Scale Fuzzy Information Fusion: From Both Global and Local Perspectives

In reality, the laborious nature of label annotation leads to the widespread existence of limited labeled data. Moreover, multi-scale data have received widespread attention due to its rich knowledge representation. However, current research on multi-scale data primarily focuses on supervised learning environments, while semi-supervised feature selection for multi-scale data with limited labels remains inadequately explored. Meanwhile, existing studies on multi-scale data often emphasize selecting optimal scales and further conducting feature selection, but this strategy may result in losing potentially valuable information from other scales. To overcome these limitations, by adopting a multi-scale fuzzy information fusion mechanism, this article proposes two new semi-supervised feature selection approaches for multi-scale data with limited labels from both global and local perspectives. Initially, by fusing fuzzy information at various scales, a label learning method is proposed to convert the decision of missing labels into a fuzzy decision of label distribution. Subsequently, label-distributed multi-scale fuzzy global and local rough sets are constructed from global and local perspectives, respectively. Based on the two models, two semi-supervised feature selection algorithms are developed based on global and local multi-scale fuzzy information fusion. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared to other advanced feature selection algorithms, the two proposed algorithms can effectively handle multi-scale data with limited labels and exhibit superior classification performance, computational efficiency and robustness. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging (DWI) is a significant technique for studying white matter. However, it suffers from low-resolution obstacles in clinical settings. Post-acquisition Super-Resolution (SR) can enhance the resolution of DWIs and has gained increasing research interest in recent years. An advanced generative model, the Diffusion Model (DM), exhibits particularly promising performance in image SR. However, effective conditions are required to bootstrap the DM for DWI SR. To this end, we proposed the first DM-based DWI SR model with two effective conditions based on low-solution DWIs and Track Density Imaging (TDI) maps, which possess rich high-resolution prior knowledge Additionally, we consider another condition based on features from low-resolution DWIs. These two conditions are integrated into our model, which comprises three components: DWI Resolution Enhancer (DRE), DWI Feature Extractor (DFE), and TDI Feature Extractor (TFE). DRE combines low-resolution DWI features from DFE with TDI features from TFE to progressively generate high-resolution DWIs. We performed extensive experiments on DWIs of normal subjects from human connectome projects and patients with Parkinson’s disease. The results demonstrate that our model outperforms existing DWI SR models, both qualitatively and quantitatively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

LLM Knows Geometry Better than Algebra: Numerical Understanding of LLM-Based Agents in A Trading Arena

Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have significantly improved performance in natural language processing tasks. However, their ability to generalize to dynamic, unseen tasks, particularly in numerical reasoning, remains a challenge. Existing benchmarks mainly evaluate LLMs on problems with predefined optimal solutions, which may not align with real-world scenarios where clear answers are absent. To bridge this gap, we design the Agent Trading Arena, a virtual numerical game simulating complex economic systems through zero-sum games, where agents invest in stock portfolios. Our experiments reveal that LLMs, including GPT-4o, struggle with algebraic reasoning when dealing with plain-text stock data, often focusing on local details rather than global trends. In contrast, LLMs perform significantly better with geometric reasoning when presented with visual data, such as scatter plots or K-line charts, suggesting that visual representations enhance numerical reasoning. This capability is further improved by incorporating the reflection module, which aids in the analysis and interpretation of complex data. We validate our findings on NASDAQ STOCK dataset, where LLMs demonstrate stronger reasoning with visual data compared to text.
