Natural Language Inference (NLI) is a crucial task in natural language processing that involves determining the relationship between two sentences, typically referred to as the premise and the hypothesis. However, traditional NLI models solely rely on the semantic information inherent in independent sentences and lack relevant situational visual information, which can hinder a complete understanding of the intended meaning of the sentences due to the ambiguity and vagueness of language. To address this challenge, we propose an innovative ScenaFuse adapter that simultaneously integrates large-scale pre-trained linguistic knowledge and relevant visual information for NLI tasks. Specifically, we first design an image-sentence interaction module to incorporate visuals into the attention mechanism of the pre-trained model, allowing the two modalities to interact comprehensively. Furthermore, we introduce an image-sentence fusion module that can adaptively integrate visual information from images and semantic information from sentences. By incorporating relevant visual information and leveraging linguistic knowledge, our approach bridges the gap between language and vision, leading to improved understanding and inference capabilities in NLI tasks. Extensive benchmark experiments demonstrate that our proposed ScenaFuse, a scenario-guided approach, consistently boosts NLI performance. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Secure and Energy-efficient Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-enabled Visible Light Communication via A Multi-objective Optimization Approach

In this research, a unique approach to provide communication service for terrestrial receivers via using unmanned aerial vehicle-enabled visible light communication is investigated. Specifically, we take into account a unmanned aerial vehicle-enabled visible light communication scenario with multiplex transmitters, multiplex receivers, and a single eavesdropper, each of which is equipped with a single photodetector. Then, a unmanned aerial vehicle deployment multi-objective optimization problem is formulated to simultaneously make the optical power received by receiving surface more uniform, minimize the amount of information collected by a eavesdropper, and minimize the energy consumption of unmanned aerial vehicles, while the locations and transmission power of unmanned aerial vehicles are simultaneously optimized under certain constraints. Since the formulated unmanned aerial vehicle deployment multiobjective optimization problem is complex and nonlinear, it is challenging to be tackled by using conventional methods. For the purpose of solving the problem, a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition with chaos initiation and crossover mutation is proposed. Simulation outcomes show that the proposed approach is superior to other approaches, and is efficient at improving the security and energy efficiency of visible light communication system. Medical scene graph contributes to cognitive tasks such as question answering. An automatic medical scene graph generator can annotate medical images with scene graphs conveniently. An end-to-end model is proposed, which contains an automatic medical scene graph generator based on medical images and surgery records. The novel model can extract symptom information of the images from surgery records via name entity recognition then convert it into scene graphs. The content and format of the scene graph are pre-defined according to the features of the images. A medical scene graph (MSG) dataset is also produced. The dataset contains 116 scene graphs where each graph includes 6 to 30 entities. Experiments show that our model performs well on making scene graphs of CT coronary angiography. Significantly, the scene graphs have the type, state, location, and index of arteries. To verify the practicability of the MSG dataset, We construct an intelligent model that can generate key diagnostic results. In addition, our medical scene graph generator can be applied to other medical areas to annotate different kinds of medical images intelligently. And the MSG dataset can directly be used in other cognitive visual tasks. © 2021 IEEE.

Human skeleton-based action recognition has long been an indispensable aspect of artificial intelligence. Current state-of-the-art methods tend to consider only the dependencies between connected skeletal joints, limiting their ability to capture non-linear dependencies between physically distant joints. Moreover, most existing approaches distinguish action classes by estimating the probability density of motion representations, yet the high-dimensional nature of human motions invokes inherent difficulties in accomplishing such measurements. In this paper, we seek to tackle these challenges from two directions: (1) We propose a novel dependency refinement approach that explicitly models dependencies between any pair of joints, effectively transcending the limitations imposed by joint distance. (2) We further propose a framework that utilizes the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion to differentiate action classes without being affected by data dimensionality, and mathematically derive learning objectives guaranteeing precise recognition. Empirically, our approach sets the state-of-the-art performance on NTU RGB+D, NTU RGB+D 120, and Northwestern-UCLA datasets. Graph few-shot learning has garnered significant attention for its ability to rapidly adapt to downstream tasks with limited labeled data, sparking considerable interest among researchers. Recent advancements in graph few-shot learning models have exhibited superior performance across diverse applications. Despite their successes, several limitations still exist. First, existing models in the meta-training phase predominantly focus on instance-level features within tasks, neglecting crucial set-level features essential for distinguishing between different categories. Second, these models often utilize query sets directly on classifiers trained with support sets containing only a few labeled examples, overlooking potential distribution shifts between these sets and leading to suboptimal performance. Finally, previous models typically require necessitate abundant labeled data from base classes to extract transferable knowledge, which is typically infeasible in real-world scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a novel model named STAR, which leverages Set funcTions and optimAl tRansport for enhancing unsupervised graph few-shot learning. Specifically, STAR utilizes expressive set functions to obtain set-level features in an unsupervised manner and employs optimal transport principles to align the distributions of support and query sets, thereby mitigating distribution shift effects. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that STAR can capture more task-relevant information and enhance generalization capabilities. An expansion of Internet of Things (IoTs) has led to significant challenges in wireless data harvesting, dissemination, and energy management due to the massive volumes of data generated by IoT devices. These challenges are exacerbated by data redundancy arising from spatial and temporal correlations. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel data-driven collaborative beamforming (CB)-based communication framework for IoT networks. Specifically, the framework integrates CB with an overlap-based multi-hop routing protocol (OMRP) to enhance data transmission efficiency while mitigating energy consumption and addressing hot spot issues in remotely deployed IoT networks. Based on the data aggregation to a specific node by OMRP, we formulate a node selection problem for the CB stage, with the objective of optimizing uplink transmission energy consumption. Given the complexity of the problem, we introduce a softmax-based proximal policy optimization with long-short-term memory (SoftPPO-LSTM) algorithm to intelligently select CB nodes for improving transmission efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed OMRP improves network lifetime by 17% compared to benchmark routing protocols, while the SoftPPO-LSTM method for CB node selection achieves an 8.3% increase in throughput over benchmark algorithms. In visual-based Reinforcement Learning (RL), agents often struggle to generalize well to environmental variations in the state space that were not observed during training. The variations can arise in both task-irrelevant features, such as background noise, and task-relevant features, such as robot configurations, that are related to the optimal decisions. To achieve generalization in both situations, agents are required to accurately understand the impact of changed features on the decisions, i.e., establishing the true associations between changed features and decisions in the policy model. However, due to the inherent correlations among features in the state space, the associations between features and decisions become entangled, making it difficult for the policy to distinguish them. To this end, we propose Saliency-Guided Features Decorrelation (SGFD) to eliminate these correlations through sample reweighting. Concretely, SGFD consists of two core techniques: Random Fourier Functions (RFF) and the saliency map. RFF is utilized to estimate the complex non-linear correlations in high-dimensional images, while the saliency map is designed to identify the changed features. Under the guidance of the saliency map, SGFD employs sample reweighting to minimize the estimated correlations related to changed features, thereby achieving decorrelation in visual RL tasks. Our experimental results demonstrate that SGFD can generalize well on a wide range of test environments and significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in handling both task-irrelevant variations and task-relevant variations.

VECLLF: A vehicle-edge collaborative lifelong learning framework for anomaly detection in VANETs

With the rapid development of intelligent connected vehicles, Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is widely used in intelligent transportation systems. VANETs are vulnerable to attacks in their operating environments, such as denial of service (DoS) attacks and injection attacks. Thus, the development of an efficient anomaly detection framework is a promising solution. Most existing methods can only detect known attacks, are less efficient in detecting unknown attacks, and fail to deal with them. To solve these problems, the lifelong learning framework (LLF) is introduced, which aims to store and label suspicious data by applying blockchain and then retrain the model. However, existing LLFs are overly idealized as they do not adequately consider the key issues of label budget and storage space. To improve the practicality of existing methods, this paper proposes a novel LLF based on the existing LLF, called Vehicle Edge Collaborative Lifelong Learning Framework (VECLLF), which can deploy the model update task on the edge server. Specifically, the proposed anomaly detection module based on ensemble active learning is used to achieve high-performance detection under a limited label budget, the proposed incremental learning module based on a sample library continuously learns the model by replaying representative samples within limited storage space, the proposed optimization-based feature selection module is used to remove redundant and interfering features, and the explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) module is used to explain the model to ensure its interpretability. In addition, the blockchain-based database (BC-DB) module is used to help store suspicious data and interact with security agencies to label it. We conducted experiments on two public datasets, AWID2 and CICIDS2017, and the results show that VECLLF outperforms state-of-the-art anomaly detection models and existing LLF, with F1-scores exceeding 97% on both datasets. From Incomplete Coarse-Grained to Complete Fine-Grained: A Two-Stage Framework for Spatiotemporal Data Reconstruction

With the rapid development of various sensing devices, spatiotemporal data is becoming increasingly important nowadays. However, due to sensing costs and privacy concerns, the collected data is often incomplete and coarse-grained, limiting its application to specific tasks. To address this, we propose a new task called spatiotemporal data reconstruction, which aims to infer complete and fine-grained data from sparse and coarse-grained observations. To achieve this, we introduce a two-stage data inference framework, DiffRecon, grounded in the Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM). In the first stage, we present Diffusion-C, a diffusion model augmented by ST-PointFormer, a powerful encoder designed to leverage the spatial correlations between sparse data points. Following this, the second stage introduces Diffusion-F, which incorporates the proposed T-PatternNet to capture the temporal pattern within sequential data. Together, these two stages form an end-to-end framework capable of inferring complete, fine-grained data from incomplete and coarse-grained observations. Reusable Generator Data-Free Knowledge Distillation with Hard Loss Simulation for Image Classification

In many image classification scenarios where knowledge distillation (KD) is applied, multiple users need to train various student models that conform to the device's computational limitations at different times. However, due to security concerns, existing data-free KD (DFKD) methods discard the trained generator after completing a task, preventing its reuse in training subsequent students and resulting in wasted resources. Furthermore, the unlabeled nature of fake images eliminates the hard loss that plays a crucial role in data-driven KD. This paper introduces the reusable generator DFKD with hard loss simulation (RG-HLS) to address these challenges. RG-HLS employs a generator consisting of two generative networks and a decoder. The decoder and one of the generative networks can be reused in subsequent tasks. The adversarial example attack is also introduced to mimic the behavior of the teacher model in predicting real images, ensuring that DFKD exhibits a hard loss similar to that of data-driven KD. Extensive experiments across CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and Tiny-ImageNet datasets validate the proposed method's superior performance. The reusable generator accelerates convergence without compromising security, and integrating the hard loss further boosts accuracy.
