An improved genetic algorithm to optimize vehicle scheduling for relief efforts

The vehicle scheduling problem is a typical multi-objective optimization problem. It is a core logistics dispatching problem and the key to realize system optimization. Optimizing vehicle scheduling for relief efforts has important practical significance and can be applied to a broader range of applications. Compared with other vehicle scheduling problems, vehicle optimal scheduling for relief efforts is mostly used to perform spot delivery or security tasks. In this paper, we propose an improved genetic algorithm and apply it to solve the vehicle scheduling problem for relief efforts in the equipment technical area. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed algorithm. © 2019 Totem Publisher, Inc. All rights reserved.

Document-Level Relation Extraction with Entity Type Constraints

Long-tail problem and multi-label problem are two commonly encountered challenges in document-level relation extraction task. Current efforts are concerned with enhancing the representations of entity pairs through Transformer or document graphs, which cannot tackle the above challenges well. Relation correlations are a potential solution, which allows head relations to assist in the training of tail ones by transferring correlation knowledge between them, and can measure the semantic distance between relations to assist the classifier in assigning multiple semantically similar relations to multi-label instances. This paper proposes to learn relation correlations from both global and local views using entity type constraints, which means that the subject-object entity types limit the scope of possible relations. Globally, we statistically construct the Type-constrained Graph between entity types and relations, which formulates all possible subject/object types for each relation. Different relations are connected by common entity types, reflecting the desired correlations. Locally, given an entity pair, the classification probability of relations matching its entity types should be greater than those unmatched. Therefore, the Type-constrained Loss is proposed to make the matched relations have greater probabilities. Detailed experiments are conducted on DocRED and DWIE datasets, and our model significantly outperforms baselines under long-tail and multi-label setups. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

MAINet: Modality-Aware Interaction Network for Medical Image Fusion

Due to the limitations of imaging sensors, obtaining a medical image that simultaneously captures both functional metabolic data and structural tissue details remains a significant challenge in clinical diagnosis. To address this, Multimodal Medical Image Fusion (MMIF) has emerged as an effective technique for integrating complementary information from multimodal source images, such as CT, PET, and SPECT, which is critical for providing a comprehensive understanding of both anatomical and functional aspects of the human body. One of the key challenges in MMIF is how to exchange and aggregate this multimodal information. This paper rethinks MMIF by addressing the harmony of modality gaps and proposes a novel Modality-Aware Interaction Network (MAINet), which leverages cross-modal feature interaction and progressively fuses multiple features in graph space. Specifically, we introduce two key modules: the Cascade Modality Interaction (CMI) module and the Dual-Graph Learning (DGL) module. The CMI module, integrated within a multi-scale encoder with triple branches, facilitates complementary multimodal feature learning and provides beneficial feedback to enhance discriminative feature learning across modalities. In the decoding process, the DGL module aggregates hierarchical features in two distinct graph spaces, enabling global feature interactions. Moreover, the DGL module incorporates a bottom-up guidance mechanism, where deeper semantic features guide the learning of shallower detail features, thus improving the fusion process by enhancing both scale diversity and modality awareness for visual fidelity results. Experimental results on medical image datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over existing fusion approaches in both subjective and objective evaluations. We also validated the performance of the proposed method in applications such as infrared-visible image fusion and medical image segmentation.

Image retrieval algorithm based on response value center weighted convolution feature

A novel cross-entropy-based loss is proposed，which is applied to a classical convolutional neural network to obtain a better embedding space. A convolutional feature aggregation algorithm based on the weighting of the center of the response value is designed to process the three-dimensional convolutional features obtained by the neural network. The algorithm obtains the spatial weighting coefficient of the feature map by calculating the current position response value and the Gaussian center. The algorithm reduces the loss of information when the 3D convolution feature map is reduced to a 1D image feature descriptor and realizes the enhancement of the target area. Finally，the obtained image feature descriptors are used for retrieval tasks. On the CUB-200-2011 dataset，the effectiveness of the loss function and the response value center weighting algorithm are respectively verified by ablation experiments. Compared with the current retrieval methods，higher precision and recall rates have been obtained on the four datasets of Paris6k，Oxford5k，CUB-200-2011 and CARS196. © 2022 Editorial Board of Jilin University. Improving Generalization of Neural Vehicle Routing Problem Solvers Through the Lens of Model Architecture

Neural models produce promising results when solving Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs), but may often fall short in generalization. Recent attempts to enhance model generalization often incur unnecessarily large training cost or cannot be directly applied to other models solving different VRP variants. To address these issues, we take a novel perspective on model architecture in this study. Specifically, we propose a plug-and-play Entropy-based Scaling Factor (ESF) and a Distribution-Specific (DS) decoder to enhance the size and distribution generalization, respectively. ESF adjusts the attention weight pattern of the model towards familiar ones discovered during training when solving VRPs of varying sizes. The DS decoder explicitly models VRPs of multiple training distribution patterns through multiple auxiliary light decoders, expanding the model representation space to encompass a broader range of distributional scenarios. We conduct extensive experiments on both synthetic and widely recognized real-world benchmarking datasets and compare the performance with seven baseline models. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of using ESF and DS decoder to obtain a more generalizable model and showcase their applicability to solve different VRP variants, i.e., travelling salesman problem and capacitated VRP. Notably, our proposed generic components require minimal computational resources, and can be effortlessly integrated into conventional generalization strategies to further elevate model generalization. For the low accuracy and imprecise of contour detection evaluation algorithm for a natural image with Ground Truth, we proposed a neighborhood matching algorithm, which had been combined with the original algorithm, and then modified the accuracy of the formula, at last we got the contour detection evaluation algorithm of this paper. Through assessing the contour detection images processed by Canny operator, compared with the original algorithm, The algorithm improved the accuracy value of assessment of contour detection.

With the aim of resolving the issue of cluster analysis more precisely and validly, a new approach was proposed based on biogeography-based optimization (abbreviated as BBO) algorithm. (Method) First, we reformulated the problem with an optimization model based on the variance ratio criterion (VARAC). Then, BBO was presented to search the optimal solution of the VARAC. There are 400 data of four groups in the experimental dataset, which have the degrees of overlapping of three distinct scales. The first one is nonoverlapping, the second one is partial overlapping, and the last is severely overlapping. BBO algorithm was compared with three different state-of-the-art approaches. We ran every algorithm 20 times. In this experiment, our results demonstrate the maximum VARAC values that can be found by BBO. The conclusion is that BBO is predominant which is extremely quick for the issue of clustering analysis. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Over the past decade, the dominance of deep learning has prevailed across various domains of artificial intelligence, including natural language processing, computer vision, and biomedical signal processing. While there have been remarkable improvements in model accuracy, deploying these models on lightweight devices, such as mobile phones and microcontrollers, is constrained by limited resources. In this survey, we provide comprehensive design guidance tailored for these devices, detailing the meticulous design of lightweight models, compression methods, and hardware acceleration strategies. The principal goal of this work is to explore methods and concepts for getting around hardware constraints without compromising the model's accuracy. Additionally, we explore two notable paths for lightweight deep learning in the future: deployment techniques for TinyML and Large Language Models. Consistency label-activated region generating network for weakly supervised medical image segmentation

The current methods of auto-segmenting medical images are limited due to insufficient and ambiguous pathonmorphological labeling. In clinical practice, rough classification labels (such as disease or normal) are more commonly used than precise segmentation masks. However, there is still much to be explored regarding utilizing these weak clinical labels to accurately determine the lesion mask and guide medical image segmentation. In this paper, we proposed a weakly supervised medical image segmentation model to directly generate the lesion mask through a class activation map (CAM) guided cycle-consistency label-activated region transferring network. Cycle-consistency enforces that the mappings between the two domains should be reversible, which ensures that the original image can be reconstructed from the translated image. We developed a complementary branches fusion module to address the issue of blurry boundaries in CAM-guided segmentation. The complementary branch preserves the original semantic information of the non-lesion region and perfectly fuses the transferred feature of the lesion region with a complementary mask-constrained fake image generation process to clear the boundary of the lesion and non-lesion regions. This module allows the class transformation to focus solely on the label-activated region, resulting in more explicit segmentation. This model can accurately identify different region of medical images at the pixel-level while preserving the overall semantic structure semantion. It organizes disease labels and corresponding regions during image synthesis. Our method utilizes a joint discrimination strategy that significantly enhances the precision of the produced lesion mask. Extensive experiments of the proposed method on BraTs, ISIC and COVID-19 datasets demonstrate superior performance over existing state-of-the-art methods. Optical flow computation based on spline functionals

A mathematical model using the spline functional as smooth constraints was presented. The second-and fourth-order partial differential equations constraints were two special cases in the model. The necessary condition for optical flow minimization problem solution was also presented. This model provided a basis for formal representation and numerical computation of optical flow from a methodological point of view. The significance of this mathematical model lay in the simplification of the equations for optical flow computation into linear algebraic equations. The simplification can contribute to discrete representation of the optical flow equation, and also verify that the use of smoothness constraints can ensure the existence and uniqueness of the solution from the view of the algebraic equations.
