As the mobile Internet grows rapidly, location-based services (LBSs) are widely applied in the tourism and transportation fields. To fully mine the data collected, location service providers (LSPs) intend to offer various query services to users, which include eclipse query. The eclipse query can generalize nearest neighbor queries and skyline queries and allow users to set more rough and customizable preference ranges. In addition, with the boom of cloud computing, more and more LSPs hope to leverage the cloud to offer better query services. Given that the data could potentially contain confidential information, the data are required to be encrypted prior to outsourcing them. Therefore, eclipse queries need to be executed on the ciphertext. Although several schemes for eclipse queries have been proposed in existing works, they have little focus on privacy issues. To address this issue, we propose an efficient and privacy-preserving scheme for eclipse queries (EPEQ) in this paper. First, we develop a MinValue tree to construct an index for the dataset. Then, by utilizing the MinValue tree and a symmetric homomorphic encryption technique, we design a secure minimum value comparison protocol to obtain a skyline data and a secure undominated data acquisition protocol to obtain the data not skyline dominated by the skyline data. After that, we present our scheme. We analyze the security of the EPEQ scheme and perform experimental evaluations, demonstrating the security and efficiency of our EPEQ scheme.

Dual Personalization on Federated Recommendation

Federated recommendation is a new Internet service architecture that aims to provide privacy-preserving recommendation services in federated settings. Existing solutions are used to combine distributed recommendation algorithms and privacy-preserving mechanisms. Thus it inherently takes the form of heavyweight models at the server and hinders the deployment of on-device intelligent models to end-users. This paper proposes a novel Personalized Federated Recommendation (PFedRec) framework to learn many user-specific lightweight models to be deployed on smart devices rather than a heavyweight model on a server. Moreover, we propose a new dual personalization mechanism to effectively learn fine-grained personalization on both users and items. The overall learning process is formulated into a unified federated optimization framework. Specifically, unlike previous methods that share exactly the same item embeddings across users in a federated system, dual personalization allows mild finetuning of item embeddings for each user to generate user-specific views for item representations which can be integrated into existing federated recommendation methods to gain improvements immediately. Experiments on multiple benchmark datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of PFedRec and the dual personalization mechanism. Moreover, we provide visualizations and in-depth analysis of the personalization techniques in item embedding, which shed novel insights on the design of recommender systems in federated settings. Human pose estimation in videos remains a challenge, largely due to the reliance on extensive manual annotation of large datasets, which is expensive and labor-intensive. Furthermore, existing approaches often struggle to capture long-range temporal dependencies and overlook the complementary relationship between temporal pose heatmaps and visual features. To address these limitations, we introduce STDPose, a novel framework that enhances human pose estimation by learning spatiotemporal dynamics in sparsely-labeled videos. STDPose incorporates two key innovations: 1) A novel Dynamic-Aware Mask to capture long-range motion context, allowing for a nuanced understanding of pose changes. 2) A system for encoding and aggregating spatiotemporal representations and motion dynamics to effectively model spatiotemporal relationships, improving the accuracy and robustness of pose estimation. STDPose establishes a new performance benchmark for both video pose propagation (i.e., propagating pose annotations from labeled frames to unlabeled frames) and pose estimation tasks, across three large-scale evaluation datasets. Additionally, utilizing pseudo-labels generated by pose propagation, STDPose achieves competitive performance with only 26.7% labeled data. Dual UAV Cluster-Assisted Maritime Physical Layer Secure Communications via Collaborative Beamforming

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be utilized as relay platforms to assist maritime wireless communications. However, complex channels and multipath effects at sea can adversely affect the quality of UAV transmitted signals. Collaborative beamforming (CB) can enhance the signal strength and range to assist the UAV relay for remote maritime communications. However, due to the open nature of UAV channels, security issue requires special consideration. This paper proposes a dual UAV cluster-assisted system via CB to achieve physical layer security in maritime wireless communications. Specifically, one UAV cluster forms a maritime UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (MUVAA) relay to forward data signals to the remote legitimate vessel, and the other UAV cluster forms an MUVAA jammer to send jamming signals to the remote eavesdropper. In this system, we formulate a secure and energy-efficient maritime communication multi-objective optimization problem (SEMCMOP) to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legitimate vessel, minimize the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel and minimize the total flight energy consumption of UAVs. Since the SEMCMOP is an NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem, we propose an improved swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with chaotic solution initialization and hybrid solution update strategies to solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other comparison algorithms, and it can achieve more efficient signal transmission by using the CB-based method. Convergence-Aware Optimal Checkpointing for Exploratory Deep Learning Training Jobs

Training Deep Learning (DL) models are becoming more time-consuming, thus interruptions to the training processes are inevitable. Existing fault-tolerant work adopted checkpoint/recovery mechanism from traditional HPC platforms that makes periodical persistent copies of model states to save execution progress. These checkpoints have fixed time intervals that they are evenly placed across the training. We can obtain an optimal checkpointing interval for an HPC job with the precondition that the progress of a job is proportional to its execution time. Unfortunately, it is not the case in DL model training where a DL training job yields diminishing returns across its lifetime. It makes the early progress of a DL training job more valuable than the later ones. Even placement of checkpoints would either increase the risks in the early stages or waste resources overprotecting the latter stages. Meanwhile, the issue can get amplified for exploratory training jobs, where early terminations are common. Moreover, in data parallelism, the state-of-art quality-driven scheduling strategies allocate more resources for the early stages of a job than the later ones to accelerate the training progress which further amplifies the issue. This paper introduces a novel checkpointing interval problem for exploratory DL training jobs based on model convergence progress. We present COCI, an approach to compute optimal checkpointing configuration for a DL training job, minimizing the fault-tolerant overhead, including checkpointing cost and recovery cost. We implement COCI based on state-of-art iteration-level checkpointing mechanism, as a pluggable module compatible with PyTorch. COCI requires no extra user input. We conduct comprehensive evaluations with real DL application setups. The experimental results show that COCI reduces up to 40.18% fault-tolerant overhead compared to existing state-of-the-art DL fault-tolerant methods in serial scenario, 57.26% in data parallel scenario and 63.8

TemporalPaD: a reinforcement-learning framework for temporal feature representation and dimension reduction

Recent advancements in feature representation and dimension reduction have highlighted their crucial role in enhancing the efficacy of predictive modeling. This work introduces TemporalPaD, a novel end-to-end deep learning framework designed for temporal pattern datasets. TemporalPaD integrates reinforcement learning (RL) with neural networks to achieve concurrent feature representation and feature reduction. The framework consists of three cooperative modules: a Policy Module, a Representation Module, and a Classification Module, structured based on the Actor-Critic (AC) framework. The Policy Module, responsible for dimensionality reduction through RL, functions as the actor, while the Representation Module for feature extraction and the Classification Module collectively serve as the critic. We comprehensively evaluate TemporalPaD using 29 UCI datasets, a well-known benchmark for validating feature reduction algorithms, through 10 independent tests and 10-fold cross-validation. Additionally, given that TemporalPaD is specifically designed for time series data, we apply it to a real-world DNA classification problem involving enhancer category and enhancer strength. The results demonstrate that TemporalPaD is an efficient and effective framework for achieving feature reduction, applicable to both structured data and sequence datasets. An Adversarial Complementary Erasing Network for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing Images

Salient object detection in optical remote sensing images (RSI-SOD) aims to locate and extract visually discriminative objects or regions, which has attracted more and more attention from the community. The key challenge of RSI-SOD lies in the characteristics of optical RSIs, such as scale diversification of salient objects, irregular edges, and cluttered backgrounds. In this paper, we strive to embrace challenges towards effective and efficient RSI-SOD. To this end, we develop a framework, termed Adversarial Complementary Erasing Network (ACENet), which comprehensively mines discriminative features of different layers from foreground, background, local and global perspectives to perform robust and accurate saliency detection. Specifically, ACENet is a typical encoder-decoder structure that embeds Adversarial Erasing Synthesis Module (AESM) in multi-scale encoding features to fully explore more useful and complete representations. In AESM, we introduce Adversarial Discriminant Information Mining (ADIM) component to facilitate adaptive adjustment between salient features and background, further enabling more representative and strong integrity feature generation. Experimental results on three datasets prove that our ACENet significantly outperforms cutting-edge SOD models both qualitatively and quantitatively with a quick reasoning speed of 76 FPS. Human pose estimation has given rise to a broad spectrum of novel and compelling applications, including action recognition, sports analysis, as well as surveillance. However, accurate video pose estimation remains an open challenge. One aspect that has been overlooked so far is that existing methods learn motion clues from all pixels rather than focusing on the target human body, making them easily misled and disrupted by unimportant information such as background changes or movements of other people. Additionally, while the current Transformer-based pose estimation methods has demonstrated impressive performance with global modeling, they struggle with local context perception and precise positional identification. In this paper, we try to tackle these challenges from three aspects: (1) We propose a bilayer Human-keypoint Mask module that performs coarse-to-fine visual token refinement, which gradually zooms in on the target human body and keypoints while masking out unimportant figure regions. (2) We further introduce a novel deformable cross attention mechanism and a bidirectional separation strategy to adaptively aggregate spatial and temporal motion clues from constrained surrounding contexts. (3) We mathematically formulate the deformable cross attention, constraining that the model focuses solely on the regions centered at the target person body. Empirically, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on three large-scale benchmark datasets. A remarkable highlight is that our method achieves an 84.8 mean Average Precision (mAP) on the challenging wrist joint, which significantly outperforms the 81.5 mAP achieved by the current state-of-the-art method on the PoseTrack2017 dataset. Location based social network develops and gets widely concern along with the population and widespread use of mobile. Point of interest(POI) recommendation become one of the most widely application among location-based service. To get better POI recommendation performance, a fuzzy clustering based collaborative filtering algorithm (FCCF) for time-Aware POI recommendation is proposed in this paper. It first constructs the user feature vector from users' check-in behaviours. Individual's check-in behaviour can be under the influence of location region and time slots, so user's feature consists of two parts. One is the vising frequency of each user in different location regions, and the other is the vising frequency of each user in different time slots. Next fuzzy c-means is adopted due to its simplicity to group users according to user feature vector. Then the user similarity computation can be limited in the similar small user groups. In the end, a collaborative filtering algorithm is applied to recommend a number of top-N POIs at a given time for the target user. Some experiments are conducted and the comparative results on Foursquare and Gowalla show that FCCF has higher precision and recall value than the comparative algorithms. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
