Text classification is a crucial and fundamental task in natural language processing. Compared with the previous learning paradigm of pre-training and fine-tuning by cross entropy loss, the recently proposed supervised contrastive learning approach has received tremendous attention due to its powerful feature learning capability and robustness. Although several studies have incorporated this technique for text classification, some limitations remain. First, many text datasets are imbalanced, and the learning mechanism of supervised contrastive learning is sensitive to data imbalance, which may harm the model performance. Moreover, these models leverage separate classification branch with cross entropy and supervised contrastive learning branch without explicit mutual guidance. To this end, we propose a novel model named SharpReCL for imbalanced text classification tasks. First, we obtain the prototype vector of each class in the balanced classification branch to act as a representation of each class. Then, by further explicitly leveraging the prototype vectors, we construct a proper and sufficient target sample set with the same size for each class to perform the supervised contrastive learning procedure. Enabling Generalized Zero-Shot Vulnerability Classification

Regarding computer security, the growth of code vulnerability types presents a persistent challenge. These vulnerabilities, which may cause severe consequences, necessitate precise classification for effective mitigation. However, the rapid emergence of new vulnerability types complicates the classification process. Traditional methodologies, which often involve human expertise and the manual labeling or generation of example instances, are not only resource-intensive but also struggle to adapt to the dynamic nature of these vulnerabilities. This paper introduces VulnSense, an innovative method that harnesses the capabilities of Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) to address the vulnerability classification problem. VulnSense learns about unseen vulnerability classes from the descriptions of these unseen classes, while not requiring to see any instances of these unseen classes. Specifically, VulnSense learns from three main resources: (1) seen classes with labeled code instances;(2) descriptions of these seen classes;and (3) descriptions of "unseen"classes which have no labeled instances. Our experiments underscore VulnSense's superiority over existing GZSL methods in classifying instances of unseen classes. Concurrently, it maintains a performance parity with traditional labeled-example based learning methods in classifying instances of seen vulnerabilities. VulnSense demonstrates the potential of using GZSL for vulnerability classification, while also highlighting challenges that inspire future work. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Collaboration and Controversy Among Experts: Rumor Early Detection by Tuning a Comment Generator

Over the past decade, social media platforms have been key in spreading rumors, leading to significant negative impacts. To counter this, the community has developed various Rumor Detection (RD) algorithms to automatically identify them using user comments as evidence. However, these RD methods often fail in the early stages of rumor propagation when only limited user comments are available, leading the community to focus on a more challenging topic named Rumor Early Detection (RED). Typically, existing RED methods learn from limited semantics in early comments. However, our preliminary experiment reveals that the RED models always perform best when the number of training and test comments is consistently extensive. This inspires us to address the RED issue by generating more human-like comments to support this hypothesis. To implement this idea, we tune a comment generator by simulating expert collaboration and controversy and propose a new RED framework named CameRed. Specifically, we integrate a mixture-of-expert structure into a generative language model and present a novel routing network for expert collaboration. Additionally, we synthesize a knowledgeable dataset and design an adversarial learning strategy to align the style of generated comments with real-world comments. We further integrate generated and original comments with a mutual controversy fusion module. Experimental results show that CameRed outperforms state-of-the-art RED baseline models and generation methods, demonstrating its effectiveness. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Multi-Target Track Initiation in Heavy Clutter

In the heavy clutter environment, the information capacity is large,the relationships among information are complicated, and track initiationoften has a high false alarm rate or missing alarm rate. Obviously, it is adifficult task to get a high-quality track initiation in the limited measurementcycles. This paper studies the multi-target track initiation in heavy *** first, a relaxed logic-based clutter filter algorithm is presented. In thealgorithm, the raw measurement is filtered by using the relaxed logic *** not only design a kind of incremental and adaptive filtering gate, but alsoadd the angle extrapolation based on polynomial extrapolation. The algorithm eliminates most of the clutter and obtains the environment with highdetection rate and less clutter. Then, we propose a fuzzy sequential Houghtransform-based track initiation algorithm. The algorithm establishes a newmeshing rule according to system noise to balance the relationship between thegrid granularity and the track initiation quality. And a flexible superpositionmatrix based on fuzzy clustering is constructed, which avoids the transformation error caused by 0–1 voting method in traditional Hough *** addition, the algorithm allows the superposition matrixes of nonadjacentcycles to be associated to overcome the shortcoming that the track can’t beinitiated in time when the measurements appear in an intermittent way. Anda slope verification method is introduced to detect formation-intensive serialtracks. Last, the sliding window method is employed to feedback the trackinitiation results timely and confirm the track. Simulation results verify thatthe proposed algorithms can initiate the tracks accurately in heavy clutter.

The worldwide spread of COVID-19 has made a severe impact on human health and life. It has shown rapid propagation, long in vitro survival, and a long incubation period. More seriously, COVID-19 is more susceptible to variation, as it is an RNA virus. Mutations of COVID-19 have been reported in multiple countries worldwide, which makes drug and vaccine development a significant challenge. To search for potential drugs and vaccines and reveal the atlas of COVID-19 evolution, we extract information from massive unstructured data and construct a COVID-19 knowledge graph using the COVID-19 data. Based on machine learning approaches, we infer and predict novel coronavirus pneumonia-related diseases, drug action targets, etc. to speculate on new and more effective treatment methods. In addition, to study transcriptome of SARS-CoV-2, new ideas can be provided to biomedical experts with flexible responses to viral variation. An in-depth analysis of the COVID-19 pathomechanism at the pharmaceutical, genetic, and protein levels provides effective means and tools for novel coronavirus pneumonia vaccines, drug development, and therapeutic program design. © 2021 IEEE.

In the context of industrial automation and intelligent monitoring, accurate identification of the industrial environment is crucial to risk management. However, traditional scene classification methods struggle to capture the features of diverse structures and irregular shapes in complex industrial scenes. Additionally, they have shortcomings in extracting details and defining boundaries under dynamic lighting conditions. Deep learning-based methods, however, are better equipped to adapt to the complex backgrounds and dynamic detail variations in industrial environments through automatic feature learning. Although the YOLOv8 network benefits from the advantages of deep learning models, it still has limitations in meeting the recognition needs of complex industrial scenes. These limitations include difficulty in effectively capturing irregular structures and details, low positioning accuracy for overlapping boundaries, and susceptibility to interference from complex backgrounds. To address these issues, this paper introduces YOLOv8-IC (Industrial Classification), an improved version of YOLOv8, to meet the specific requirements of industrial scene classification. This enhancement improves feature extraction, target positioning, and key area focusing capabilities in complex environments. To further validate the model's effectiveness, a new dataset, Places24, was constructed by combining industrial scenes from the Places365 dataset with self-collected camera monitoring images. This approach enhances the model's applicability to real industrial environments. Experimental results show that the YOLOv8-IC network outperforms the original model in classification accuracy and real-time performance, significantly enhancing the stability and accuracy of industrial scene classification. The proposed YOLOv8-IC-based industrial scene classification scheme offers a more accurate solution for intelligent industrial monitoring systems. © 2025 SPIE.

Efficient Sharing of Energy Consumption Data: A Privacy-Preserving Threshold Aggregation Approach

Energy consumption data collected by smart meters is increasingly used by various subscribers in the smart grid for load management, energy monitoring, and policy planning. To protect user privacy, edge-assisted privacy-preserving data aggregation (PPDA) techniques are commonly employed. However, existing methods face several challenges: i) limited scalability, ii) strict trust requirements, and iii) the risk of revealing unique consumption patterns to data collectors. To address these challenges, we propose a privacy-preserving threshold aggregation method that is easily scalable and facilitates efficient energy data sharing under limited trust assumptions. Specifically, we design VFPNTRU, a quantum-resistant homomorphic proxy re-encryption scheme with fault tolerance and re-encryption verification. In VFP-NTRU, smart meters can encrypt data with a public key without the need for prior negotiation of decryption keys with multiple subscribers. Additionally, we develop a privacy threshold collection protocol that uses a verifiable oblivious pseudorandom function to provide privacy guarantees similar to k-anonymity for SM data collection. We further introduce an energy consumption model to determine optimal collection strategies, improving system responsiveness. We provide correctness analysis and prove the security of our scheme. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing PPDA methods, making it particularly suitable for resource-constrained smart meters and central servers managing large-scale energy data. © 2014 IEEE.

With the complexity of the functions of modern buildings, the problem of vertical traffic in buildings is becoming more and more prominent. As the only vertical transportation, the elevator is a necessary prerequisite for the development of modern buildings to solve its group control distribution problem. In this paper, a vertical traffic scheduling control method is proposed based on dual fuzzy neural network, a recognition strategy is designed to identify the passenger flow models. The dual fuzzy neural network is used to first identify the traffic network model in which the elevator is located, and then combine the corresponding weights and the confidence of the group control allocation to complete the group control scheduling. Finally, the proposed method is verified through a semi-physical simulation platform, proving the correctness and effectivness for traffic pattern recognition and scheduling strategy optimization of group controllers.

Large-scale pre-trained Vision Transformer (ViT) models have demonstrated remarkable performance on visual tasks but are computationally expensive to transfer to downstream tasks. Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) offers a promising transferring approach by updating only a subset of parameters. However, PEFT’s effectiveness is hindered by discrepancies between pre-training and downstream tasks in terms of object scale and granularity. Downstream tasks often focus on finer-grained and more specialized recognition, requiring more detailed features. The diversity of feature scales of existing PEFT methods for ViT is limited. To address this, we propose a novel PEFT method named Wavelet-based multi-Scale Tuning (WST), which learns multi-scale features in a simple and efficient way. WST introduces a parallel finetuning patch embedding branch with a smaller patch size than the pre-trained model to capture finer-grained features. Furthermore, to handle the computational challenge from the resulting longer token sequence, WST designs wavelet finetuning blocks that balance both efficiency and performance. In the block, wavelet transform enables invertible and lossless down-sampling of the longer token sequence, aligning it with that of the backbone, and two lightweight linear mappings are employed to learn task-specific features. This design facilitates efficient multi-scale information exchange between the pre-trained backbone and fine-tuning branch. Gaze input is a popular hands-free input method that allows for intuitive and rapid pointing but lacks a confirmation mechanism. This study introduces GazePuffer, an interaction method that combines puffing cheeks with gaze. We explored the design space of mouth gestures, proposed a set of candidate gestures, filtered them through user subjective evaluation, and selected five basic gestures and four variations. We determined the corresponding virtual reality (VR) actions for these gestures through brainstorming. We achieved an accuracy of 93.8% in recognizing the five basic mouth gestures using the built-in sensors of the head-mounted display devices. We compared GazePuffer with two baseline methods in target selection tasks, demonstrating that GazePuffer is on par with Gaze&Pinch in throughput and speed, slightly outperforming Gaze&Dwell. Finally, we showcased the applicability of GazePuffer in real VR interaction tasks, with users generally finding it usable and effortless.
