Efficient Image Transmission Schemes over Zigbee-Based Image Sensor Networks

Image transmission is one of the biggest challenges in wireless sensor networks because of the limited resource on sensor nodes. We proposed two image transmission schemes driven by reliability and real time considerations in order to transfer JPEG images over Zigbee-based sensor networks. By adding two bytes counter in the header of data packet, we can easily solve the repeated data reception problem caused by retransmission mechanism in traditional Zigbees network layer. We proposed an efficient retransmission and acknowledgment mechanism in Zigbees application layer. By classifying different data reception response events, we can provide data packets with differential responses and ensure that image packets can be transferred quickly even with large maximum number of retransmission. Practical results show the effectiveness of our solutions to make image transmission over Zigbee-based sensor networks efficient.

Aiming at the problem of multi-category iris recognition, there proposes a method of iris recognition algorithm based on adaptive Gabor filter. Use DE-PSO to adaptive optimize the Gabor filter parameters. DE-PSO is composed of particle swarm optimization and differential evolution algorithm. Use 16 groups of 2D-Gabor filters with different frequencies and directions to process iris images. According to the direction and frequency of maximum response amplitude, transform iris features into 512-bit binary feature encoding. Calculate the Hamming distance of feature code and compare with the classification threshold, determine iris the type of iris. Experiment on a variety of iris databases with multiple Gabor filter algorithms, the results showed that this algorithm has higher recognition rate, the ROC curve is closer to the coordinate axis and the robustness is better, compare with other Gabor filter algorithm. © 2017, Springer International Publishing AG.

In recent years, with the development of the Internet, it is more and more common for users to buy mobile phones on the Internet. On the one hand, sentiment analysis help customers to fully understand the performance of the phone, on the other hand, it provides improvement direction for producer to upgrade the goods. In this paper, we use the method of semantic analysis to analyze the sentiment of Chinese online comments about mobile phone. It is worth noting that we focus on the analysis of characteristics of different commentators for the product of the independent sentimental rather than for the product's overall feelings. On the basis of predecessors' work, we creatively put forward a solution to solve the problem of multiple-sentiment sentimental words, which remarkable improve the rate of recall. In the aspect of accuracy, we provide a more powerful method for the judgment of neutral words by analyzing the influence of the degree adverbs on neutral words. In the end of the article, several times with different experiments verify the effectiveness of the method in the aspect of accuracy rate and recall rate. © 2016 IEEE.

The detection of structural changes is an important task in analyzing network evolution, especially for interactions between people, that may be driven by external events. Existing work relies on snapshot data and misses out some key functions of networks. Here, we study contact network evolution where no snapshot data are available. In spite of the challenge, this study demonstrates how contact networks can be used to predict and control infectious disease epidemics. We first model structural changes in contact networks during the 2009 influenza pandemic in Hong Kong, and then present a probabilistic framework to address it, aiming to answer when and how the underlying structure changes, utilizing multiple data sources including demographic data, and epidemic surveillance data. The efficacy and public health utility of the method are demonstrated using both synthetic and real data. © 2017, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). The number of word embedding models is growing every year. Most of them are based on the co-occurrence information of words and their contexts. However, it is still an open question what is the best definition of context. We provide a systematical investigation of 4 different syntactic context types and context representations for learning word embeddings. Comprehensive experiments are conducted to evaluate their effectiveness on 6 extrinsic and intrinsic tasks. We hope that this paper, along with the published code, would be helpful for choosing the best context type and representation for a given task. © 2017 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Topic modeling algorithms such as the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) play an important role in machine learning research. Fitting LDA using Gibbs sampler-related algorithms involves a sampling process over K topics. We can use the sparsity in LDA to accelerate this expensive topic sampling process even for very large K values. However, LDA gradually loses sparsity as the number of documents increases. Motivated by the goal of fast LDA inference with large numbers of both topics and documents, in this paper we propose the novel sparse hybrid variational-Gibbs (SHVG) algorith-m. The SHVG algorithm divides the topic sampling probability into a sparse term that scales linearly with the number of per-document instantiated topics Kd, and a dense term that uses the Alias method to reduce the time cost to constant 0(1) time. This will lead to a significant improvement on efficiency. Using stochastic optimization techniques, we further develop an online version of SHVG for streaming documents. Experimental results on corpora with a wide range of sizes demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed SHVG algorithm. Copyright © by SIAM.

Local binary patterns was used to distinguish the Photorealistic Computer Graphics and Photographic Images, however the dimension of the extracted features is too high. Accordingly, the Local Ternary Count based on the Local Ternary Patterns and the Local Binary Count was developed in this study. Furthermore, a novel algorithm is presented based on the Local Ternary Count to classify photorealistic Computer Graphics and Photographic images. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the dimension of the classification features and maintains a good classification performance. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Publishing articles in high-impact English journals is difficult for scholars around the world, especially for non-native English-speaking scholars (NNESs), most of whom struggle with proficiency in English. In order to uncover the differences in English scientific writing between native English-speaking scholars (NESs) and NNESs, we collected a large-scale data set containing more than 150,000 full-text articles published in PLoS between 2006 and 2015. We divided these articles into three groups according to the ethnic backgrounds of the first and corresponding authors, obtained by Ethnea, and examined the scientific writing styles in English from a two-fold perspective of linguistic complexity: (1) syntactic complexity, including measurements of sentence length and sentence complexity;and (2) lexical complexity, including measurements of lexical diversity, lexical density, and lexical sophistication. The observations suggest marginal differences between groups in syntactical and lexical complexity. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Intelligent Manufacturing has attracted global and continuous attention recent years, with more and more intelligent devices and systems applied in production. In this paper, we take China’s manufacturing listed firms to investigate the productivity difference between intelligent and general manufacturing firms. By the Cobb-Douglas production function, we built a Coefficient-varying Model and used Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) to estimate the time-varying trend of productivity from 2011 to 2017. The empirical results show that “Intelligent Manufacturing” has obviously promoted the Labor factor utilization efficiency and the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) through the advances in technology. But it doesn’t have universally enhancing effect of all industries. The impact of “Intelligent Manufacturing” still remains to be observed overtime.
