Generalized Extended tanh-function Method for Traveling Wave Solutions of Nonlinear Physical Equations

In this paper, the generalized extended tanh-function method is used for constructing the traveling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. We choose Fisher＇s equation, the nonlinear schr＆#168;odinger equation to illustrate the validity and ad-vantages of the method. Many new and more general traveling wave solutions are obtained. Furthermore, this method can also be applied to other nonlinear equations in physics.

Using a random forest method for epistasis detection in genome-wide association studies

Detecting susceptibility genes and gene-gene interactions (epistasis) is an important issue in genetic association analysis and genetic epidemiology. Due to the huge number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and inappropriate statistical tests, epistasis detection is a computational and statistical challenge and becomes a "needle-in-a-haystack" problem. Also some epistasis detection algorithms proposed in lots of literature have demonstrated their successes for small scale data, while most of them cannot be directly applied into genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and the pathogenesis of many common complex human diseases is mysterious. Here we adopted a random forest method incorporating information theory and a powerful statistical test, B-stat to detect epistasis. We conducted sufficient artificial experiments on a wide range of simulated datasets and compared performance of our random forest method with its two competitors, COE and BEAM. Experimental results demonstrated that this method is quite available and time efficiency for the haystack problem. We also presented the results of the application of the method to the WTCCC type 1 diabetes dataset. We reported some previously well known genes as well as some significant SNP interactions.

Bridging virtualized environments with physical environments, virtual network plays an important role in Cloud computing infrastructures. How to allocate physical resources for virtual nodes/links to construct virtual network is known as Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) problem. It is a crucial issue that draws wide attention. This paper surveys existing VNE methods and algorithms and how they work under different application scenarios. First, a survey of different VNE objective metrics is presented;then several VNE algorithms are presented and categorized;finally, the performance of different VNE solutions are compared and discussed. © 2010, Bentham Science Publishers B.V. Using proteins in saliva as biomarkers has great advantage in early diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of health conditions or diseases. In this article, we present a computational method for predicting secreted proteins in human saliva. Firstly, we collected currently known saliva-secreted proteins and the representatives that deem to be not extracellular secretion into saliva. Secondly, we pruned the negative data concerned the imbalance condition, and then extracted the relevant features from the physicochemical and sequence properties of all remained proteins. After that, a support vector machine classifier was built which got performance of average sensitivity, specificity, precision, accuracy and Matthews correlation coefficient value to 80.67%, 90.56%, 90.09%, 85.53% and 0.7168, respectively. These results indicated that the selected features and the model are effective. Finally, a screening test was implemented to all human proteins in UniProt and acquired 5811 proteins as predicted saliva-secreted proteins which may be used as biomarker candidates for further salivary diagnosis. © 2014 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

An ensemble feature selection method based on mRMR for paired microarray data

With the development of high-throughput microarray chip technology, there are a large number of microarray expression data, which have few samples compared to the genes of high dimensions. And in recent years, more and more expression datasets contain samples of cancer tissues with their corresponding control tissues as paired. In the last decade, a variety of filter feature selection methods have been proposed. However, most of these methods rarely consider the effect of outlier and paired samples. In this article, we propose an ensemble feature selection method based on minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR) method for paired microarray data. In order to increase the stability of the method, the improved method uses an ensemble strategy to generate diverse subsets from the original dataset. Then, the mRMR method is used to obtain multiple feature lists on the subsets. Finally, a rank aggregation strategy is adopted to decide the final list of selected features. We apply the method on six paired microarray datasets across different cancer types. Through comparison on the performance with other widely used filter methods, the proposed method obtains an excellent performance on the results. It indicates that the improved method is effective and has good applicability of feature selection for paired microarray expression data analysis. © 2014 Binary Information Press.

To realize effective and rapid dynamic biometric identification with low computational complexity, a video-based facial texture program that extracts local binary patterns from three orthogonal planes in the frequency domain of the Gabor transform (GLBP-TOP) was proposed. Firstly, each normalized face was transformed by Gabor wavelet to get the enhanced Gabor magnitude map, and then the LBP-TOP operator was applied to the maps to extract video texture. Finally, weighted Chi square statistics based on the Fisher Criterion were used to realize the identification. The proposed algorithm was proved effective through the biometric experiments using the Honda/UCSD database, and was robust against changes of illumination and expressions. © 2014 - IOS Press and the authors.

To deal with the challenge of information overload, in this paper, we propose a financial news recommendation algorithm which help users find the articles that are interesting to read. To settle the ambiguity problem, a new presented OF-IDF method is employed to represent the unstructured text data in the form of key concepts, synonyms and synsets which are all stored in the domain ontology. For users, the recommendation algorithm build the profiles based on their behaviors to detect the genuine interests and predict current interests automatically and in real time by applying the thinking of relevance feedback. Finally, the experiment conducted on a financial news dataset demonstrates that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the performance of a traditional recommender.

In this paper, we investigate the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems with hesitant interval-valued fuzzy information. Then, we further develop some new Einstein aggregation operators with hesitant interval-valued fuzzy information, such as the induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein correlated averaging (I-HIVFECA) operator and induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein correlated geometric (I-HIVFECG) operator. Then, we apply the induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein correlated averaging (I-HIVFECA) operator and induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein correlated geometric (I-HIVFECG) operator to deal with multiple attribute decision making under the hesitant interval-valued fuzzy environments. Finally, an illustrative example for evaluating software quality is given to verify the developed approach and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness. © 2014-IOS Press and the authors. Ant colony algorithm is a more effective way of solving traveling salesman problem (TSP). Ant colony algorithm adopts the distributed parallel computing mechanism;and it is easy to combine with other methods. Furthermore, it has the advantages of strong robustness. But the search time is long, and it often falls into local optimal solution. In order to speed up convergence rate and ensure the global search ability, use adaptive adjustment mechanism to adjust pheromone evaporation factor, and mutate solutions according to the characteristics of ant colony searching for path in each iteration. An improved ant colony algorithm is proposed in this paper. Experiments show that algorithm has a more remarkable quality of precision and convergent velocity than T. A. S. Masutti and G. F. Dong’s, the improved Percentage deviations of average to the BKS is less than 1% equally, percentage deviations of best to the BKS is less than 0.05% equally. © 2014, Journal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research.
