Human pose estimation has given rise to a broad spectrum of novel and compelling applications, including action recognition, sports analysis, as well as surveillance. However, accurate video pose estimation remains an open challenge. One aspect that has been overlooked so far is that existing methods learn motion clues from all pixels rather than focusing on the target human body, making them easily misled and disrupted by unimportant information such as background changes or movements of other people. Additionally, while the current Transformer-based pose estimation methods has demonstrated impressive performance with global modeling, they struggle with local context perception and precise positional identification. In this paper, we try to tackle these challenges from three aspects: (1) We propose a bilayer Human-keypoint Mask module that performs coarse-to-fine visual token refinement, which gradually zooms in on the target human body and keypoints while masking out unimportant figure regions. (2) We further introduce a novel deformable cross attention mechanism and a bidirectional separation strategy to adaptively aggregate spatial and temporal motion clues from constrained surrounding contexts. (3) We mathematically formulate the deformable cross attention, constraining that the model focuses solely on the regions centered at the target person body. Empirically, our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on three large-scale benchmark datasets. A remarkable highlight is that our method achieves an 84.8 mean Average Precision (mAP) on the challenging wrist joint, which significantly outperforms the 81.5 mAP achieved by the current state-of-the-art method on the PoseTrack2017 dataset. Incomplete Graph Learning: A Comprehensive Survey

Graph learning is a prevalent field that operates on ubiquitous graph data. Effective graph learning methods can extract valuable information from graphs. However, these methods are non-robust and affected by missing attributes in graphs, resulting in sub-optimal outcomes. This has led to the emergence of incomplete graph learning, which aims to process and learn from incomplete graphs to achieve more accurate and representative results. In this paper, we conducted a comprehensive review of the literature on incomplete graph learning. Initially, we categorize incomplete graphs and provide precise definitions of relevant concepts, terminologies, and techniques, thereby establishing a solid understanding for readers. Subsequently, we classify incomplete graph learning methods according to the types of incompleteness: (1) attribute-incomplete graph learning methods, (2) attribute-missing graph learning methods, and (3) hybrid-absent graph learning methods. By systematically classifying and summarizing incomplete graph learning methods, we highlight the commonalities and differences among existing approaches, aiding readers in selecting methods and laying the groundwork for further advancements. In addition, we summarize the datasets, incomplete processing modes, evaluation metrics, and application domains used by the current methods. Lastly, we discuss the current challenges and propose future directions for incomplete graph learning, with the aim of stimulating further innovations in this crucial field. In online insurance, one of the central challenges is the cold-starting of new insurance products, which means there are no previous samples to refer to. Previous studies have mainly focused on improving the prediction accuracy of new items, but they have failed to consider the revenue generated by existing items. As a result, the total revenue may suffer a loss even if new items get conversions. To address this issue, in this paper we propose RACRec, a Revenue-Aware Cold-start Recommendation framework for online insurance. Unlike previous works, RACRec uses a revenue-based objective function to ensure profitability when cold-starting new items. With this dedicated objective, RACRec orchestrates the cold-start and warm-start model by predicting their expected revenue from each user, thereby preserving the total profit. In order to accurately predict revenue, a double-ranking scheme is designed for the warm-start model to mitigate position bias, while an item embedding alignment algorithm is proposed for the cold-start model to learn the revenue of new items from similar old items. Furthermore, a reinforced orchestrate update scheme is designed to eliminate the impact of sparse conversions and continuously update revenue estimation. Extensive offline and online experiments have been conducted to validate the effectiveness of RACRec.

Causality-inspired Unsupervised Domain Adaptation with Target Style Imitation for Medical Image Segmentation

Deep learning performance may decrease substantially with unseen heterogeneous data. While most unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods seek to address this through image alignment, they often ignore uncertainty style fluctuations within the target domain. When testing image styles vary in both direction and intensity, such models may fail to adapt. Furthermore, existing UDA methods tend to over-reliance on domain-level entire feature alignment, resulting in potentially over-exploiting semantic content-independent cues (e.g., intensity) as shortcut features. To address these limitations, this paper introduces an innovative and model-agnostic Causality-inspired Representation Learning Based on Target Style Imitation method for UDA. Specifically, we propose a novel Target Style Imitation (TSI) data augmentation approach to diversify the training data and align training and unseen target testing image styles. TSI constructs a Gaussian distribution for the target domain style and simulates unseen testing style variations through random sampling. Additionally, inspired by the stable and generalizable causal mechanism, we propose Causality-inspired Representation Learning (CRL) based on TSI method to enforce feature representations to adhere to causal properties (i.e., Separation and Independence) essential for robust UDA, thus fostering the model to focus on the domain-invariant semantic features. Our method surpasses state-of-the-art methods on two cross-modality medical image segmentation datasets. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, with the continuous development of molecular biology technology, the effective use of environmental microorganisms to solve the problem of pollution in the ecological environment has been widely used. However, the original microbial cultivation, environmental application and monitoring have the disadvantages of high degree of specialization, long time and high cost. In this case, the use of computer image processing and machine learning techniques for microbial identification and classification becomes a more efficient, economical and necessary method. This paper presents an environmental microorganism microscopic image classification method based on texture features and machine learning. In the research and experiments, microscopic images of microorganisms are cropped, grayed, data augmented, target areas segmented and extracted four types of texture features. The training set and test set are divided in a 1:1 ratio, and different recognition results are obtained based on different texture feature vectors and classifier models. Ultimately, the gradient-gray co-occurrence matrix feature combined with the Random Forest algorithm classifier achieves an F1-measure value of nearly 40%, which improves the work efficiency of environmental microbial researchers and related field workers. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Image forgery detection focuses more on tampering regions than image content of semantic segmentation, it is revealed that wealthier features need to be learned. Moreover, insufficient semantic information causes low efficiency of forgery detection. To address these issues, we propose a hybrid features and semantic reinforcement network (HFSRNet) for image forgery detection, which is an encoding and decoding based network. Specifically, long-short term memory with resampling features has been applied to capture traces from the image patches for finding manipulating artifacts. Consolidated features extracted from rotating residual units are further leveraged to amplify the discrepancy between un-tampered and tampered regions. We then hybridize features from them through a concatenation to further incorporate spatial co-occurrence of these two modalities. In addition, for achieving the semantic consistency between two same level features associated by across layers, semantic reinforcement is implemented on the decoding stage. HFSRNet is an end-to-end architecture that handles multiple types of image forgery including copy-move, splicing, removal. Experiments on three standard image manipulation datasets (NIST16, COVERAGE and CASIA) demonstrate that HFSRNet obtains state-of-the-art performance compared to existing models and baselines. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Human pose estimation in videos remains a challenge, largely due to the reliance on extensive manual annotation of large datasets, which is expensive and labor-intensive. Furthermore, existing approaches often struggle to capture long-range temporal dependencies and overlook the complementary relationship between temporal pose heatmaps and visual features. To address these limitations, we introduce STDPose, a novel framework that enhances human pose estimation by learning spatiotemporal dynamics in sparsely-labeled videos. STDPose incorporates two key innovations: 1) A novel Dynamic-Aware Mask to capture long-range motion context, allowing for a nuanced understanding of pose changes. 2) A system for encoding and aggregating spatiotemporal representations and motion dynamics to effectively model spatiotemporal relationships, improving the accuracy and robustness of pose estimation. STDPose establishes a new performance benchmark for both video pose propagation (i.e., propagating pose annotations from labeled frames to unlabeled frames) and pose estimation tasks, across three large-scale evaluation datasets. Additionally, utilizing pseudo-labels generated by pose propagation, STDPose achieves competitive performance with only 26.7% labeled data. Federated recommendation system usually trains a global model on the server without direct access to users' private data on their own devices. However, this separation of the recommendation model and users' private data poses a challenge in providing quality service, particularly when it comes to new items, namely cold-start recommendations in federated settings. This paper introduces a novel method called Item-aligned Federated Aggregation (IFedRec) to address this challenge. It is the first research work in federated recommendation to specifically study the cold-start scenario. The proposed method learns two sets of item representations by leveraging item attributes and interaction records simultaneously. Additionally, an item representation alignment mechanism is designed to align two item representations and learn the meta attribute network at the server within a federated learning framework. Experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate IFedRec's superior performance for cold-start scenarios. Furthermore, we also verify IFedRec owns good robustness when the system faces limited client participation and noise injection, which brings promising practical application potential in privacy-protection enhanced federated recommendation systems. Nowadays, data parallelism has been widely applied to train large datasets on distributed deep learning clusters, but it has suffered from costly global parameter updates at batch barriers. Performance imbalance among worker instances, introduced by uneven workload partitioning or biased resource allocation, can cause straggly workers, which can lead to severe impacts on both training speed and result accuracy. This paper studies the issue focusing on the tradeoff between training speed and result accuracy. We propose Cooperate Grouping Parallel (CGP), a hybrid parameter update solution that allows the flexibility of both synchronous and asynchronous update schemes. We introduce a novel Cooperate Worker Grouping Problem (CWGP) that seeks a task grouping configuration that leads to maximum model accuracy and holds customized training speed guarantees. We propose an evolution-based Pareto local searching algorithm to compute efficient worker grouping configurations. Comprehensive evaluation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of CGP under both persistent and fluctuant imbalances. The proposed method alleviates the imbalance impacts without introducing extra adjustment over-heads.
