Causality-inspired Unsupervised Domain Adaptation with Target Style Imitation for Medical Image Segmentation

Deep learning performance may decrease substantially with unseen heterogeneous data. While most unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods seek to address this through image alignment, they often ignore uncertainty style fluctuations within the target domain. When testing image styles vary in both direction and intensity, such models may fail to adapt. Furthermore, existing UDA methods tend to over-reliance on domain-level entire feature alignment, resulting in potentially over-exploiting semantic content-independent cues (e.g., intensity) as shortcut features. To address these limitations, this paper introduces an innovative and model-agnostic Causality-inspired Representation Learning Based on Target Style Imitation method for UDA. Specifically, we propose a novel Target Style Imitation (TSI) data augmentation approach to diversify the training data and align training and unseen target testing image styles. TSI constructs a Gaussian distribution for the target domain style and simulates unseen testing style variations through random sampling. Additionally, inspired by the stable and generalizable causal mechanism, we propose Causality-inspired Representation Learning (CRL) based on TSI method to enforce feature representations to adhere to causal properties (i.e., Separation and Independence) essential for robust UDA, thus fostering the model to focus on the domain-invariant semantic features. Our method surpasses state-of-the-art methods on two cross-modality medical image segmentation datasets. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Autonomous Domain Correlation-Based Cross-domain Network View Caching Method for SDN Distributed Controller

Software-defined networks(SDN) maintain a global view of the network, thus improving the intelligence of forwarding decisions. With the expansion of the network scale, distributed controllers are used in a variety of large-scale networks in which subnetworks managed by controller instance are called autonomous domains. We analyze statistic frequency of communication across the autonomous domain. We calculate the autonomous domain correlations for controller instances using acquired statistical information. We cache network views to highly correlated controller instances. Distributed controllers are capable of considering both the average response time and overall storage. An experiment shows that our method can fully take advantage of these two performance indicators.

Unknown Task Selection and Worker Recruitment Using Two-Stage Multi-Armed Bandit in Crowdsensing

Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) faces significant challenges in selecting tasks with expected high revenue and recruiting workers with expected high qualities to maximize overall utility. Existing approaches often assume the revenue of posting tasks or the quality of workers is determined, which limits their practical applicability. This paper tackles these challenges by modeling the long-term multi-task, multi-worker selection problem as a Two-Stage Multi-Armed Bandit (TS-MAB) problem under uncertainty. In each round, the MCS platform selects a long-term task from a pool and recruits the necessary workers, determining payments accordingly. We model the task selection phase as a MAB problem, and the worker recruitment phase, influenced by the task selection, as a Combinatorial MAB (CMAB) problem. We propose an extended Upper Confidence Bound (UCB)-based strategy and develop an incentive mechanism based on Auction theory, combined with TS-MAB (i.e., ATS-MAB), for unknown task selection and worker recruitment. Our mechanism theoretically guarantees truthfulness and individual rationality, with a theoretical analysis of its regret bounds. Furthermore, we introduce an adaptive incentive mechanism called AATS-MAB, which improves worker recruitment and quality updates, achieving higher total sensing quality and lower regret. Extensive simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of the proposed methods. © 2014 IEEE.

The low-altitude economy (LAE), driven by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other aircraft, has revolutionized fields such as transportation, agriculture, and environmental monitoring. In the upcoming six-generation (6G) era, UAV-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) is particularly crucial in challenging environments such as mountainous or disaster-stricken areas. The computation task offloading problem is one of the key issues in UAV-assisted MEC, primarily addressing the trade-off between minimizing the task delay and the energy consumption of the UAV. In this paper, we consider a UAV-assisted MEC system where the UAV carries the edge servers to facilitate task offloading for ground devices (GDs), and formulate a calculation delay and energy consumption multi-objective optimization problem (CDECMOP) to simultaneously improve the performance and reduce the cost of the system. Then, by modeling the formulated problem as a multi-objective Markov decision process (MOMDP), we propose a multi-objective deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm within an evolutionary framework to dynamically adjust the weights and obtain non-dominated policies. Moreover, to ensure stable convergence and improve performance, we incorporate a target distribution learning (TDL) algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can better balance multiple optimization objectives and obtain superior non-dominated solutions compared to other methods. CMRM: Collaborative Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning for Multi-objective Traffic Signal Control

Efficient traffic signal control is a cost-effective way to ease urban traffic congestion. Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has become a widely adopted method for optimizing traffic signal control (TSC). However, existing MARL-based methods often focus on a single optimization objective, lacking a comprehensive consideration of traffic efficiency, environmental pollution, and traffic safety. Simultaneously, these methods often fail to effectively capture the dynamic and complex interactions among agents in multi-intersection scenarios, which negatively impacts traffic efficiency. In this article, we propose a collaborative MARL-based method for multi-objective TSC, called CMRM. First, we introduce a multi-objective reward mechanism that integrates traffic efficiency, environmental impact, and safety to guide agents toward more comprehensive optimization. Second, we design a cooperation enhancement module (CEM) based on the graph attention mechanism to dynamically capture neighboring agents’ state information. This mitigates the partial observability problem in independent proximal policy optimization (IPPO) and enhances the model’s ability to capture dynamic and complex interactions among agents. Finally, we assess the performance of the proposed CMRM method using SUMO on two real traffic networks. Experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly improves traffic efficiency while reducing environmental pollution and enhancing traffic safety, compared to the best performing baseline, our method reduces CO2 emission by approximately 17.53% and 9.57%, and lowers vehicle collision risks by 44.39% and 42.85% in two different traffic networks. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The low-altitude economy (LAE), as a new economic paradigm, plays an indispensable role in cargo transportation, healthcare, infrastructure inspection, and especially post-disaster communication. Specifically, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as one of the core technologies of the LAE, can be deployed to provide communication coverage, facilitate data collection, and relay data for trapped users, thereby significantly enhancing the efficiency of post-disaster response efforts. However, conventional UAV self-organizing networks exhibit low reliability in long-range cases due to their limited onboard energy and transmit ability. Therefore, in this paper, we design an efficient and robust UAV-swarm enabled collaborative self-organizing network to facilitate post-disaster communications. Specifically, a ground device transmits data to UAV swarms, which then use collaborative beamforming (CB) technique to form virtual antenna arrays and relay the data to a remote access point (AP) efficiently. Then, we formulate a rescue-oriented post-disaster transmission rate maximization optimization problem (RPTRMOP), aimed at maximizing the transmission rate of the whole network. Given the challenges of solving the formulated RPTRMOP by using traditional algorithms, we propose a two-stage optimization approach to address it. In the first stage, the optimal traffic routing and the theoretical upper bound on the transmission rate of the network are derived. In the second stage, we transform the formulated RPTRMOP into a variant named V-RPTRMOP based on the obtained optimal traffic routing, aimed at rendering the actual transmission rate closely approaches its theoretical upper bound by optimizing the excitation current weight and the placement of each participating UAV via a diffusion model-enabled particle swarm optimization (DM-PSO) algorithm. HVIS: A Human-like Vision and Inference System for Human Motion Prediction

Grasping the intricacies of human motion, which involve perceiving spatio-temporal dependence and multi-scale effects, is essential for predicting human motion. While humans inherently possess the requisite skills to navigate this issue, it proves to be markedly more challenging for machines to emulate. To bridge the gap, we propose the Human-like Vision and Inference System (HVIS) for human motion prediction, which is designed to emulate human observation and forecast future movements. HVIS comprises two components: the human-like vision encode (HVE) module and the human-like motion inference (HMI) module. The HVE module mimics and refines the human visual process, incorporating a retina-analog component that captures spatiotemporal information separately to avoid unnecessary crosstalk. Additionally, a visual cortex-analogy component is designed to hierarchically extract and treat complex motion features, focusing on both global and local features of human poses. The HMI is employed to simulate the multi-stage learning model of the human brain. The spontaneous learning network simulates the neuronal fracture generation process for the adversarial generation of future motions. Subsequently, the deliberate learning network is optimized for hard-to-train joints to prevent misleading learning. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves new state-of-the-art performance, significantly outperforming existing methods by 19.8% on Human3.6M, 15.7% on CMU Mocap, and 11.1% on G3D. © 2025, CC BY.

A Two-Dimensional Improvement for Farr-Gao Algorithm

Farr-Gao algorithm is a state-of-the-art algorithm for reduced Gr?bner bases of vanishing ideals of finite points, which has been implemented in Maple as a build-in command. This paper presents a two-dimensional improvement for it that employs a preprocessing strategy for computing reduced Gr?bner bases associated with tower subsets of given point sets. Experimental results show that the preprocessed Farr-Gao algorithm is more efficient than the classical one.

The cooperation in mixed cooperative-competitive tasks has drawn significant attention in multi-agent deep reinforcement learning. Agents need to cooperate with their teammates while competing against their opponents. However, most existing works treat the cooperative agents and competitive agents equally as they perform the same operation on all the agents. As a result, without distinguishing between cooperative and competitive agents, they may suffer from information disorder in learning an optimally cooperative policy and struggle to decide on the next step action. To address the above issues, we decompose the final Q-value into a weighted combination of three parts: the Q-values of the cooperative agents, the competitive group, and the current agent. A theoretical proof of the correctness of the decomposition is provided. With this decomposition, we are able to consider cooperative and competitive agents separately. Accordingly, we propose a multi-agent actor-critic algorithm called actor-double-attention-critic (ADAC) under centralized training and decentralized execution according to the decomposition. In ADAC, networks with group-specific attention and an attentional weighting network are specially designed. With the designed double-attention structure, ADAC can capture the distributions from different agents and improve cooperation performance. Extensive experiments are conducted in three scenarios with nine settings against six representative methods. The results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed ADAC model against state-of-the-art methods in various mixed cooperative-competitive tasks. © 2000-2011 IEEE.

Efficient and Privacy-Preserving Weighted Nearby-Fit Spatial keyword Query in Cloud

In the modern digital landscape, integrating geographic locations and textual descriptions within a geo-textual dataset enhances location-based services (LBS) via spatial keyword queries, as these queries combine spatial and textual information to deliver more precise and personalized results. Additionally, the advent of cloud computing allows data owners to outsource data management and services to the cloud, boosting scalability but introducing efficiency challenges due to complex encryption. Although many schemes have been proposed for spatial keyword queries on encrypted geo-textual data, none supports matching a query keyword set with the keyword sets of multiple objects, a common query type in LBS. Imagine a user seeking to rent a house close to his/her workplace, with easy access to conveniences like supermarkets. By using nearby-fit spatial keyword queries, we can match the desired house with a house-type target object and its nearby amenities, offering more practical and flexible recommendations than traditional spatial keyword queries. Hence, in this paper, we introduce an efficient and privacy-preserving scheme called the Privacy-preserving Weighted Nearby-fit Spatial keyword (PWNSK) query scheme. First, we design a target-oriented spatial keyword (TOSK) tree for data organization and a TOSK tree based WNSK query algorithm for efficient pruning by simultaneously utilizing locations, keywords, and distances from nearby objects to target objects. For privacy, we develop several protocols, including one for polynomial coefficient re-encoding, based on polynomial coefficient encoding and fully homomorphic encryption. Building on these protocols, we introduce our PWNSK scheme. A thorough security analysis confirms its robustness, while extensive experiments also showcase its effectiveness. © 2014 IEEE.
