Retrieval-based multi-image question answering (QA) task involves retrieving multiple question-related images and synthesizing these images to generate an answer. Conventional "retrieve-then-answer" pipelines often suffer from cascading errors because the training objective of QA fails to optimize the retrieval stage. To address this issue, we propose a novel method to effectively introduce and reference retrieved information into the QA. Given the image set to be retrieved, we employ a multimodal large language model (visual perspective) and a large language model (textual perspective) to obtain multimodal hypothetical summary in question-form and description-form. By combining visual and textual perspectives, MHyS captures image content more specifically and replaces real images in retrieval, which eliminates the modality gap by transforming into text-to-text retrieval and helps improve retrieval. To more advantageously introduce retrieval with QA, we employ contrastive learning to align queries (questions) with MHyS. Moreover, we propose a coarse-to-fine strategy for calculating both sentence-level and word-level similarity scores, to further enhance retrieval and filter out irrelevant details. Our approach achieves a 3.7% absolute improvement over state-of-the-art methods on RETVQA and a 14.5% improvement over CLIP. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) is emerging as a promising paradigm to provide aerial-terrestrial computing services in close proximity to mobile devices (MDs). However, meeting the demands of computation-intensive and delay-sensitive tasks for MDs poses several challenges, including the demand-supply contradiction between MDs and MEC servers, the demand-supply heterogeneity between MDs and MEC servers, the trajectory control requirements on energy efficiency and timeliness, and the different time-scale dynamics of the network. To address these issues, we first present a hierarchical architecture by incorporating terrestrial-aerial computing capabilities and leveraging UAV flexibility. Furthermore, we formulate a joint computing resource allocation, computation offloading, and trajectory control problem to maximize the system utility. Since the problem is a non-convex and NP-hard mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP), we propose a two-timescale joint computing resource allocation, computation offloading, and trajectory control (TJCCT) approach for solving the problem. In the short timescale, we propose a price-incentive model for on-demand computing resource allocation and a matching mechanism-based method for computation offloading. In the long timescale, we propose a convex optimization-based method for UAV trajectory control. Besides, we theoretically prove the stability, optimality, and polynomial complexity of TJCCT. Extended simulation results demonstrate that the proposed TJCCT outperforms the comparative algorithms in terms of the system utility, average processing rate, average completion delay, and average completion ratio. Influence maximization (IM) has drawn considerable attention in recent years. Most existing IM methods focus on homogeneous networks, and do not consider the heterogeneity and the attributes of different types of nodes in heterogeneous networks. However, heterogeneous networks are ubiquitous in real-world and encompass rich semantics and complex structural information. Additionally, the clustering characteristics embedded in a network have a critical and significant impact on the process of information diffusion, which has not been considered in IM models based on heterogeneous networks. To address the challenges posed by the heterogeneity and clustering structure in heterogeneous networks, we propose a novel deep learning framework based on a self-supervised clustered heterogeneous graph transformer for IM in heterogeneous networks, named SCHGT-IM. SCHGT-IM aggregates the heterogeneity and clustering information in heterogeneous networks and includes a clustered cascade (CC) model as an information diffusion model to improve the realism of simulations. We evaluate the performance of SCHGT-IM in comparison with that of state-of-the-art IM models on three academic heterogeneous networks extracted from DBLP dataset. The experimental influence spread results show that SCHGT-IM is superior to five state-of-the-art algorithms and performs effectively in terms of selecting influential seed nodes of different types from heterogeneous networks. © 2022, The Authors. In this paper, we present XDN, an optimization and inference engine for accelerating residual neural networks on Cambricon chips. We leverage a channel pruning method to compress the weights of ResNet-50. By exploring the optimization opportunities in computational graphs, we propose a layer fusion strategy, which dramatically decreases the number of scalar computation layers, such as Batch Normalization, Scale. Furthermore, we design an efficient implementation of XDN, including data preprocessing, hyper-parameter auto-tuning, etc. The experimental results show that the ResNet-50 model can achieve significant speedup without accuracy loss by using our XDN engine. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

Recent advances in protein language models have catalyzed significant progress in peptide sequence representation. Despite extensive exploration in this field, pre-trained models tailored for peptide-specific needs remain largely unaddressed due to the difficulty in capturing the complex and sometimes unstable structures of peptides. This study introduces a novel multi-view contrastive learning framework PepHarmony for the sequence-based peptide encoding task. PepHarmony innovatively combines both sequence- and structure-level information into a sequence-level encoding module through contrastive learning. We carefully select datasets from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and AlphaFold database to encompass a broad spectrum of peptide sequences and structures. The experimental data highlights PepHarmony's exceptional capability in capturing the intricate relationship between peptide sequences and structures compared with the baseline and fine-tuned models. The robustness of our model is confirmed through extensive ablation studies, which emphasize the crucial roles of contrastive loss and strategic data sorting in enhancing predictive performance. The proposed PepHarmony framework serves as a notable contribution to peptide representations, and offers valuable insights for future applications in peptide drug discovery and peptide engineering. Enhanced Traffic Carbon Emissions Data Sharing and Modeling via Blockchain and Personalized Federated Learning in IIoT Ecosystem

The energy transition is essential for achieving sustainable development, and in this context, sharing traffic carbon emissions data within the IIoT ecosystem plays a pivotal role in incentivizing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner transportation solutions. By leveraging interconnected IoT devices and data analytics, we can enhance transparency and collaboration, driving more effective strategies for sustainable transportation. However, managing traffic carbon emissions and facilitating the complex sharing of emission data across various entities present significant challenges. To address these issues, we propose a Blockchain-based Traffic Carbon Data Sharing and Modeling (BCSM) method that provides a secure, efficient, and reliable platform for carbon emissions trading. Our approach introduces a blockchain-based framework designed to ensure data integrity and user privacy in carbon markets, thereby enhancing transparency and trust among participants. We further develop a hierarchical aggregated carbon trading data modeling architecture that integrates hypernetworks with attention mechanisms, enabling the creation of high-quality, personalized models for federated learning clients. This architecture allows clients to benefit from collective insights while preserving data confidentiality. Additionally, we implement a blockchain-editable access control mechanism, facilitating fine-grained permissions management and maintaining a comprehensive, auditable trail of system interactions. The experimental results demonstrate that our BCSM approach not only enhances data security but also significantly improves model performance, offering a robust solution to the challenges in traffic carbon trading and contributing to the broader energy transition objectives. © 2014 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have gained considerable attention as a platform for establishing aerial wireless networks and communications. However, the line-of-sight dominance in air-to-ground communications often leads to significant interference with terrestrial networks, reducing communication efficiency among terrestrial terminals. This paper explores a novel uplink interference mitigation approach based on the collaborative beamforming (CB) method in multi-UAV network systems. Specifically, the UAV swarm forms a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (VAA) to achieve the transmissions of gathered data to multiple base stations (BSs) for data backup and distributed processing. However, there is a trade-off between the effectiveness of CB-based interference mitigation and the energy conservation of UAVs. Thus, by jointly optimizing the excitation current weights and hover position of UAVs as well as the sequence of data transmission to various BSs, we formulate an uplink interference mitigation multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) to decrease interference affection, enhance transmission efficiency, and improve energy efficiency, simultaneously. In response to the computational demands of the formulated problem, we introduce an evolutionary computation method, namely chaotic non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (CNSGA-II) with multiple improved operators. The proposed CNSGA-II efficiently addresses the formulated MOOP, outperforming several other comparative algorithms, as evidenced by the outcomes of the simulations. Moreover, the proposed CB-based uplink interference mitigation approach can significantly reduce the interference caused by UAVs to non-receiving BSs. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Clustering is an important data processing tool, which can be used to reveal the distribution structure of unfamiliar domain data, or as preprocess methods to magnify data object to accelerate subsequent processing or simplify models. However, the distribution of many real-world data in feature space is very complex or uneven. Besides, the similarity/distance is not easy to be properly defined in feature space with different dimensional quantity. Therefore, many existing clustering algorithms are not stable in real datasets, and better performance of different datasets relies on artificial special design, such as scale normalization. In this paper, we propose a bidirectional hierarchical clustering (BHC) algorithm with two phases. In the first phase (Top-down), based on the probability density function of data in different dimensions, the feature space is divided into over-segmented grids to adapt to the complex distribution of data. In the second phase (Bottom-up), based on statistical information, a robust distance instead of geometrical distance is defined to agglomerate the grids into a dendrogram. Compared with the individual data points, grids created in the first phase can carry more statistical information, and the magnified processing objects can accelerate the clustering process. The second phase enhances the algorithm’s ability by the ability of recognize arbitrary shape data clusters. The effectiveness of BHC is compared with 20 popular or recent clustering algorithms on 8 artificial datasets and 6 real-world datasets. And the results show that our algorithm can achieve good results on most datasets. In particular, BHC surpasses all the comparison algorithms involved in the experiment on all real-world datasets. Ontology revision aims to seamlessly incorporate a new ontology into an existing ontology and plays a crucial role in tasks such as ontology evolution, ontology maintenance, and ontology alignment. Similar to repair single ontologies, resolving logical incoherence in the task of ontology revision is also important and meaningful, because incoherence is a main potential factor to cause inconsistency and reasoning with an inconsistent ontology will obtain meaningless answers. To deal with this problem, various ontology revision approaches have been proposed to define revision operators and design ranking strategies for axioms in an ontology. However, they rarely consider axiom semantics which provides important information to differentiate axioms. In addition, pre-trained models can be utilized to encode axiom semantics, and have been widely applied in many natural language processing tasks and ontology-related ones in recent years. Therefore, in this paper, we study how to apply pre-trained models to revise ontologies. We first define four scoring functions to rank axioms based on a pre-trained model by considering various information from an ontology. Based on the functions, an ontology revision algorithm is then proposed to deal with unsatisfiable concepts at once. To improve efficiency, an adapted revision algorithm is designed to deal with unsatisfiable concepts group by group. We conduct experiments over 19 ontology pairs and compare our algorithms and scoring functions with existing ones. According to the experiments, our algorithms could achieve promising performance. The adapted revision algorithm could improve the efficiency largely, and at most about 90% of the time could be saved for some ontology pairs. Some of our scoring functions like reliableOnt cos could help a revision algorithm obtain better results in many cases, especially for those challenging ontology pairs like OM8. Bone image landmark detection plays a vital role in orthopedic diseases diagnosis and analysis. As a promising approach, the data-driven convolutional neural network has been widely applied in landmarks detection. However, the model’s performance relies heavily on numerous high-quality labeled data, which are difficult to access. A practical solution for this issue in bone images landmark detection has not been provided, so we propose a framework of semi-supervised bone images landmark detection encouraged by the recent success of the self-ensembling method. The student and teacher networks share the same structure in our framework, where unlabeled data are utilized by enforcing the prediction consistency of two networks under different perturbations to enhance the network’s performance. The two networks use a mutual learning approach to improve the efficiency of using unlabeled data. In addition, we also propose a transformative perturbation scheme to prevent model overfitting during training and enhance the generalization capability of the model on unseen data. Experimental results on an in-house hip dataset collected from the actual process of clinical diagnosis and a publicly available dataset demonstrate that our framework has excellent performance compared with other semi-supervised methods.
