Autonomous and Incentivized Wireless Connection for Robust Mobile Blockchain Network

Blockchain has been widely implemented as a trusted platform. Previous works mainly focus on the computing capacity of devices while communication factors play a vital role in blockchain performance during dynamic wireless environments. High-speed movement causes frequent wireless connection interruptions and leads to severe performance degradation of blockchain. Besides, resource-constrained mobile devices are unwilling to selflessly contribute their energy and bandwidth for blockchain, hindering applications in dynamic mobile networks. This paper proposes a reverse auction mechanism to incentivize mobile devices to provide robust wireless connections. Devices submit their connection provision and expected rewards as bids. The mobile blockchain system uses smart contracts to autonomously execute the reverse auction to determine winners and allocate payments based on actual connections. We prove that the reverse auction mechanism is Individual Rationality (IR), Incentive Compatibility (IC), and Computational Efficiency (CE), and derive the approximation ratio 2σ of the mechanism. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism decreases up to half the energy and bandwidth consumption, but achieves a similar TPS and stale rate compared to the selfless scheme, where devices contribute all wireless connections for nothing in return. The proposed auction mechanism achieves more than 96% of the optimal social welfare. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A Novel Coprime Nested Array with Enhanced DOFs and Reduced Mutual Coupling for DOA Estimation of Noncircular Sources

Recently, many sparse array configurations have been designed for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of noncircular sources due to their capability of constructing high-performance difference-sum coarray. Nested array, coprime array, along with their improved structures are the most commonly used array configurations. Nested arrays could provide O(R2) degrees of freedom (DOFs) with only R sensors, but suffer from severe mutual coupling effect owing to closely arranged elements. Coprime arrays generally offer a lower number of DOFs than nested arrays, but are more robust to mutual coupling effect due to sparser array structure. Unfortunately, existing sparse arrays cannot possess the benefits of nested arrays and coprime arrays at the same time within the framework of difference-sum coarray. To compensate for the above shortcoming, we first analyze the nesting property for difference coarray, and generalize the nesting property to difference-sum coarray, allowing nearly half of the sensors to be removed from dense subarray. Then, a new nested configuration called thinned coprime nested array (TCNA) is proposed, whose dense subarray is a coprime structure that satisfies the aforementioned nesting property. TCNA can generate a comparable number of DOFs to nested arrays due to the nesting property between two subarrays. Meanwhile, the mutual coupling effect is greatly reduced since its dense subarray is replaced with a coprime structure, which limits the number of sensor pairs with small spacing. Therefore, TCNA is able to combine the advantages of both nested array and coprime array. Finally, simulations verify the superiority of TCNA with respect to DOF ratio, coupling leakage, and DOA estimation accuracy. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Task-Oriented Multi-user Semantic Communication based on Deep Over-the-Air Computation

The presence of large-scale heterogeneous IoT devices and AI-based applications has brought significant transmission and computation pressure on the wireless communication system. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-user semantic communication framework based on deep over-the-air computation called SC-DAC to tackle this challenge. By integrating communication and computation through a deep over-the-air computation (AirComp) encoder, SC-DAC is able to utilize the superposition of multiple access channels, facilitating multi-user information fusion during transmission and eliminating the need for multi-user detection at the receiver. Further, to achieve the optimal task results, the semantic encoders, decoders, and AirComp encoder are jointly optimized, where stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm and deep double-Q network (DDQN) are employed to optimize the encoder/decoder parameters. The simulation results demonstrate that as the number of users increased, the performance of the system remains relatively stable and shows potential in resource utilization. What's more, when applied to the AI-based tasks such as multi-user multimodal action recognition and semantic segmentation, SC-DAC enhances the accuracy of action recognition by 26% compared with traditional methods and by about 30%-50% compared with other multi-user semantic communication methods under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), while it enhances the accuracy of semantic segmentation by 0.22 to 0.32 compared to other methods © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Multi-scale CNN-Swin transformer network with boundary supervision for multiclass biomarker segmentation in retinal OCT images

Retinal biomarker morphology is closely associated with a variety of chronic ophthalmic diseases, in which biomarker localization and segmentation in optical coherence tomography (OCT) play a key role in the diagnosis of retina-related diseases. Although great progress has been made in deep learning based OCT biomarker segmentation, several challenges still exist. Due to issues such as image noise or class imbalance, retinal biomarkers affect the model’s recognition of other biomarkers. Moreover, small biomarkers are prone to lose accuracy during downsampling. And most existing methods rely on convolutional neural networks, which make it challenging to obtain the global context due to locality of convolution. Benefiting from the Swin Transformer with powerful modeling capabilities, we propose MSCS-Net (Multi-scale CNN-Swin Network), a network for OCT biomarker segmentation, which effectively combines CNN and Swin Transformer and integrates them in parallel into a dual-encoder structure. Specifically, an edge detection path is added alongside to enhance the localization of biomarkers at the edges. For the Swin Transformer branch, considering the irregular distribution of most OCT biomarkers, a new windowing partition is performed in the Swin Transformer to capture the features more efficiently. Meanwhile, we design a Feature Dimensionality Reduction Module to extensively collect the information of small-scale biomarkers. To effectively integrate information from two scales, we design a Transformer Cross Fusion Module to finely fuse the global and local feature information from the two-branch encoders. We validate the proposed approach on local and public datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Hierarchical finite-time optimization regulation of multiple autonomous surface vehicles for time-varying target cooperative tracking

We propose a novel hierarchical finite-time optimization regulation algorithm for multiple autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) to achieve cooperative tracking of a time-varying target. An objective function reflecting the energy consumption of the multiple ASVs system in the tracking process is designed, and a finite-time optimal estimator (FTOE) is developed to minimize the objective function in the case that ASVs form a specified formation while following the desired trajectory. Meanwhile, the target trajectory can be variable instead of constant. In the finite-time local controller (FTLC), the sailing states of the multiple ASVs system can be stabilized to the vicinity of the multiple various predefined time-varying trajectories in finite time in a way that minimizes the objective function by tracking the FTOE. The proof of the finite-time stability is provided and the settling time is calculated. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hierarchical algorithm. © 2025 Northeast University. All rights reserved.

Disentangle Nighttime Lens Flares: Self-supervised Generation-based Lens Flare Removal

Lens flares arise from light reflection and refraction within sensor arrays, whose diverse types include glow, veiling glare, reflective flare and so on. Existing methods are specialized for one specific type only, and overlook the simultaneous occurrence of multiple typed lens flares, which is common in the real-world, e.g. coexistence of glow and displacement reflections from the same light source. These co-occurring lens flares cannot be effectively resolved by the simple combination of individual flare removal methods, since these coexisting flares originates from the same light source and are generated simultaneously within the same sensor array, exhibit a complex interdependence rather than simple additive relation. To model this interdependent flares’ relationship, our Nighttime Lens Flare Formation model is the first attempt to learn the intrinsic physical relationship between flares on the imaging plane. Building on this physical model, we introduce a solution to this joint flare removal task named Self-supervised Generation-based Lens Flare Removal Network (SGLFR-Net), which is self-supervised without pre-training. Specifically, the nighttime glow is detangled in PSF Rendering Network(PSFR-Net) based on PSF Rendering Prior, while the reflective flare is modelled in Texture Prior Based Reflection Flare Removal Network (TPRR-Net). Multi-domain fake news detection method based on generative adversarial network and graph network

The proliferation of misinformation in today's digital era poses significant challenges, with fake news detection becoming critical to mitigate economic losses and social instability. Despite extensive research efforts, most existing approaches are tailored for single-domain fake news detection, struggling with data distribution discrepancies and domain shifts when applied to multi-domain scenarios. This limitation underscores the urgent need for solutions that address the complexities of cross-domain detection. Here, we propose a novel framework MFGAG that synergistically integrates adversarial networks and graph neural networks with emotional, stylistic, and semantic features to enable precise domain localization. By leveraging these features, the framework effectively models intricate relationships among news articles within the same temporal context, addressing the challenges posed by multi-domain datasets. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving an average accuracy improvement of 3.3 percentage points for single-domain news and nearly 1 percentage point for mixed-domain data, culminating in an overall accuracy of 93.1 %. Modern societies increasingly rely on automatic control systems. These systems are hardly pure technical systems; instead they are complex socio-technical systems, which consist of technical elements and social components. It is necessary to have a systematic approach to analyze these systems because it is growing evidence that accidents from these systems usually have complex causal factors which form an interconnected network of events, rather than a simple cause-effect chain. We take railway Train control systems (TCS) as an example to demonstrate the importance of the socio-technical approach to analyze the system. The paper presents an investigation of recent high-speed railway accident by applying STAMP - one of the most notable socio-technical system analysis techniques, outlines improvements to the system which could avoid similar accidents in the future. We also provide our valuable feedback for the use of STAMP.

Ghost imaging (GI) is an innovative technique that utilizes correlated light intensities to reconstruct images without the requirement of direct spatial resolution measurements. It offers several advantages in various applications, such as improved image resolution, robustness against noise and scattering, less computational cost, and an effective solution for low-light imaging. GI enables surveillance and target detection in remote sensing with its recent developments. With the evolving technique of GI with machine and deep learning (ML/DL), GI with LiDAR and advanced reconstruction algorithms in computational ghost imaging (CGI), GI can be applied in various domains of remote sensing. Ghost imaging in remote sensing (GIRS), is potential solution for atmospheric monitoring, target detection and classification, surveillance and underwater imaging. In this comprehensive analysis, we studied the recent advancements in GI and its modalities in remote sensing with new developments in optical components used in GIRS. However, with the challenges available in scaling the technologies for long-range sensing and real-time processing capabilities, we provide comprehensive solutions in limitations and future directions with advantages in GIRS. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

An Encoder-Decoder Model Based On Spiking Neural Networks For Address Event Representation Object Recognition

Address event representation (AER) object recognition task has attracted extensive attention in neuromorphic vision processing. The spike-based and event-driven computation inherent in the spiking neural network (SNN) provides an energy-saving solution for AER object recognition. However, SNN with spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) learning rule has not achieved satisfying AER object recognition performance. This work proposes an SNN-based encoder-decoder model to improve the recognition performance of AER objects. An STDP-based locally connected spiking neural network (LC-SNN) is proposed as an encoder to extract rich spatiotemporal features from AER event flows more flexibly. After the encoder extracts and learns primary features, we propose a fully connected spiking neural network (FC-SNN) based on the reward-modulated spike-timing-dependent plasticity (R-STDP) learning rule as a decoder to learn higher-level features for classification. In addition, we improved the winner-take-all (WTA) mechanisms and R-STDP learning rule in the decoder based on the reward and punish decision, enabling the network to perform better. The experiments are performed on the N-MNIST, MNIST-DVS, and the DVS Gesture datasets, improving the accuracy of the best existing plasticity-based SNN by 0.19%, 0.27% and 1.35%, respectively. © 2016 IEEE.
