A novel pursuing algorithm, together with a new experiment method, is introduced to drive a nonholonomic mobile robot tracking a dynamic target in the framework of pursuit-evasion game. Specifically, a pan-tilt with an on-board camera is attached to the mobile robot to construct a tracking system, which greatly improves the maneuverability compared with the traditional method. To keep the target close enough to the vision center of the camera, a control technique is devised according to its kinematic model and Lyapunov theory. By utilizing game theory, the viability set is determined. A tracking controller is employed to guarantee persistent tracking for the dynamic target, where the relative position between the target and the robot is successfully acquired from the visual measurements by the utilization of geometric analysis. Both simulation and experimental results are provided to illustrate the performance of the controller.

Optimum Design of Fractional Order PID controller for an AVR system Using an Improved Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Fractional order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller generalizes the standard PID controller. Compared to PID controller, FOPID controller has more parameters and the tuning of parameters is more complex. In this paper, an improved artificial bee colony algorithm, which combines cyclic exchange neighborhood with chaos (CNC-ABC), is proposed for the sake of tuning the parameters of FOPID controller. The characteristic of the proposed CNC-ABC exists in two folds: one is that it enlarges the search scope of the solution by utilizing cyclic exchange neighborhood techniques, speeds up the convergence of artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC). The other is that it has potential to get out of local optima by exploiting the ergodicity of chaos. The proposed CNC-ABC algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of the FOPID controller for an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. Numerical simulations show that the CNC-ABC FOPID controller has better performance than other FOPID and PID controllers.

Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) aims to predict perceptual image quality scores without access to reference images. State-of-the-art BIQA methods typically require subjects to score a large number of images to train a robust model. However, subjective quality scores are imprecise, biased, and inconsistent, and it is challenging to obtain a large-scale database, or to extend existing databases, because of the inconvenience of collecting images, training the subjects, conducting subjective experiments, and realigning human quality evaluations. To combat these limitations, this paper explores and exploits preference image pairs (PIPs) such as the quality of image Iais better than that of image Ibfor training a robust BIQA model. The preference label, representing the relative quality of two images, is generally precise and consistent, and is not sensitive to image content, distortion type, or subject identity;such PIPs can be generated at a very low cost. The proposed BIQA method is one of learning to rank. We first formulate the problem of learning the mapping from the image features to the preference label as one of classification. In particular, we investigate the utilization of a multiple kernel learning algorithm based on group lasso to provide a solution. A simple but effective strategy to estimate perceptual image quality scores is then presented. Experiments show that the proposed BIQA method is highly effective and achieves a performance comparable with that of state-of-the-art BIQA algorithms. Moreover, the proposed method can be easily extended to new distortion categories. © 2012 IEEE.

Recently, researchers have discovered unexpected bumps in the detection rate curve of yet another steganographic scheme (YASS). We refer to this abnormal phenomenon as non-monotonic security performance. This paper first analyzes this abnormality and points out that it is caused by the non-uniformity in probability of coincidence of (Formula presented.) embedding blocks and (Formula presented.) JPEG blocks. Based on this observation, we propose that further randomizing data embedding positions can overcome the non-monotonic security performance. Experimental results have demonstrated a complete removal of bumps in the detection rate curve of YASS after further randomization. © 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

According to the problem that conventional laminated paper counting algorithms have some unavoidable shortcomings such as high dependence on the quality of laminated paper and noise sensitivity, we propose a laminated paper counting algorithm based on compressive sensing (CS) and Hough transform (HT). In the proposed algorithm, the over-complete dictionary which is created by dispersing the Hough transform space of straight lines acts as the sparse matrix. Making use of high degree of sparse nature of the laminated paper image, we can obtain the accurate result through using CS theory. Experimental results on simulation images and laminated paper images have shown that our proposed algorithm can effectively restrain noise of the laminated paper image, and will get accurate experimental results with fewer CS measurements. © 2014 IEEE.

A Multi-Agent Model of Opinion Formation with Truth Seeking and Endogenous Leaders

We present an opinion formation model in which individuals are supposed to seek a consensus on the truth. All agents are boundedly confident in the sense that an agent communicates with another one if their opinion difference is not greater than a threshold which is called the bound of confidence. When facing the truth, they are also boundedly confident such that they take the truth into account if the truth is inside their bound of confidence. Any agent influenced by the truth is viewed as a leader, and thus, the role of leader is endogenous with the evolution of opinions. For any pair of bound of confidence and position of truth, we provide a possible range of the strength of the attraction of truth that can guarantee the whole group converging to the truth. We also find that there always exists a suitable strength of the attraction of truth leading the whole group to a consensus on the truth as long as the whole group converge to a consensus in the absence of the attraction of truth.

As one of key technologies in photovoltaic converter control, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) methods can keep the power conversion efficiency as high as nearly 99% under the uniform solar irradiance condition. However, these methods may fail when shading conditions occur and the power loss can over as much as 70% due to the multiple maxima in I-P curve in shading conditions v.s. single maximum point in uniformly solar irradiance. In this paper, a Real Maximum Power Point Tracking (RMPPT) strategy under Partially Shaded Conditions (PSCs) is introduced to deal with this kind of problems. An optimization problem, based on a predictive model which will change adaptively with environment, is developed to tracking the global maxima and corresponding adaptive control strategy is presented. No additional circuits are required to obtain the environment uncertainties. Finally, simulations show the effectiveness of proposed method. © IFAC.

This paper presents a reliability assessment model for the wind power converter system (WPCS). In this study, the most influential factors of average wind speed and wind turbulence intensity are considered. First, WPCS operation state is partitioned into different phases in terms of different thermal stress levels which are determined by its operation conditions of average wind speed and wind turbulence intensity. Then, based on FIDES reliability guide, thermal factor and thermal cycling factor for each WPCS operation phases are calculated to indicate the contribution of average wind speed and wind turbulence to WPCS reliability. Finally, the randomly changed thermal profile is regulated by rain-flow cycling count algorithm and thus the junction temperature cycling information is extracted to calculate the thermal factor and thermal cycling factor. The reliability assessment on a real full-rated WPCS of a 2.5MW wind turbine with a permanentmagnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is carried out and the influences of cut-in, rated, cut-out wind speed and heat sink design parameters to the WPCS reliability is analyzed. © 2014 IEEE.

A new type of substrate structure Electronic Enhance Collector IGBT (EEC-IGBT) was proposed, and the working principle was introduced in this paper. Compared with conventional IGBT, the substrate of EEC-IGBT was divided by the groove structure composed of oxide and aluminum. Finally, simulation analysis about the EEC-IGBT performance influence by structural parameters was given. The simulation results showed that the turn-off loss of EEC-IGBT was reduced 30% compared with CS-IGBT in the same condition voltage. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper considers an OFDMA-based cooperative cognitive radio network where the secondary users (SUs) act as the relay of the primary users (PUs) while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) of the PUs. In return, the SUs access the spectrum licensed to PUs in both time and frequency without impacting the communication of the PUs. A joint resource allocation problem is formulated to maximize the data rate of the SUs. It is proven that the optimization problem can be decomposed into two coupled subproblems which are power allocation and relay selection. The power allocation adopts the water-filling algorithm using the Lagrangian method, and the optimal relay selection is solved by Hungarian method. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can bring revenue to both the PUs and SUs. © 2015 Journal of Communications.
