Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm in Non-Markovian Quantum systems

Although quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) has demonstrated its quantum supremacy, its performance on Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices would be influenced by complicated noises, e.g., quantum colored noises. To evaluate the performance of QAOA under these noises, this paper presents a framework for running QAOA on non-Markovian quantum systems which are represented by an augmented system model. In this model, a non-Markovian environment carrying quantum colored noises is modelled as an ancillary system driven by quantum white noises which is directly coupled to the corresponding principal system;i.e., the computational unit for the algorithm. With this model, we mathematically formulate QAOA as piecewise Hamiltonian control of the augmented system, where we also optimize the control depth to fit into the circuit depth of current quantum devices. For efficient simulation of QAOA in non-Markovian quantum systems, a boosted algorithm using quantum trajectory is further presented. Finally, we show that non-Markovianity can be utilized as a quantum resource to achieve a relatively good performance of QAOA, which is characterized by our proposed exploration rate. With the rapid advancement of quantum computing, Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) is considered as a promising candidate to demonstrate quantum supremacy, which exponentially solves a class of Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (QUBO) problems. However, limited qubit availability and restricted coherence time challenge QAOA to solve large-scale pseudo-Boolean problems on currently available Near-term Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices. In this paper, we propose a distributed QAOA which can solve a general pseudo-Boolean problem by converting it to a simplified Ising model. Different from existing distributed QAOAs’ assuming that local solutions are part of a global one, which is not often the case, we introduce community detection using Louvian algorithm to partition the graph where subgraphs are further compressed by community representation and merged into a higher level subgraph. Recursively and backwards, local solutions of lower level subgraphs are updated by heuristics from solutions of higher level subgraphs. Compared with existing methods, our algorithm incorporates global heuristics into local solutions such that our algorithm is proven to achieve a higher approximation ratio and outperforms across different graph configurations. Isoforms refer to different mRNA molecules transcribed from the same gene, which can be translated into proteins with varying structures and functions. Predicting the functions of isoforms is an essential topic in bioinformatics as it can provide valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of gene regulation and biological processes. Conventionally, gene function labels are standardized in Gene Ontology (GO) terms. However, traditional methods for predicting isoform function are largely limited by the absence of isoform-specific labels, sparse annotations, and the vast number of GO terms. To address these issues, we propose HANIso, a deep learning-based method for isoform function prediction. HANIso leverages a pretrained protein language model to extract features from protein sequences. It also integrates heterogeneous information, such as isoform sequence features, GO annotations, and isoform interaction data, using a Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (HAN). This allows the model to learn the importance of different sources of information and their semantic relationships through the attention mechanism. Our method can predict function labels at both the gene level and isoform level. We conduct experiments on two species datasets, and the results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods on both AUROC and AUPRC. HANIso has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional methods and provide a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of isoform function.

Simple molecular graphs or molecular line notations are insufficient for molecular representation learning models that automatically learn molecule representations to acquire deep semantic features about chemistry. Therefore, we proposed the Morgan Fingerprint Graph, a novel molecular graph model constructed with the nodes of the Morgan Fingerprint Identifier, whose nodes incorporate various properties of the atom neighborhood. Based on our Morgan Fingerprint Graph, we trained a BERT-based molecular representation model MFGB which employs a local rather than global attention module to adapt the model to the Morgan Fingerprint Graph. The attention module of MFGB regulates the exchange of information in the attention layer based on the connection information of the atoms in the molecules. To verify the effectiveness of MFGB, we selected several mainstream datasets for evaluation. The results demonstrated that our method improve the performance of molecular properties prediction. In addition, we analyzed MFGB from both the over-smoothing and the attention perspectives. The analysis indicates that the node vector representations learned from the Morgan Fingerprint Graph are generally less smoothing, and the attention distributions of MFGB match the partial charge density distribution of the molecules.

As one of the important tasks in the field of robotics and machine vision, LiDAR/visual odometry provides tremendous help for various applications such as navigation, location, etc. In the existing methods, LiDAR odometry shows superior performance, but visual odometry is still widely used for its price advantage. Conventionally, the task of visual odometry mainly rely on the input of continuous images. However, it is very complicated for the odometry network to learn the epipolar geometry information provided by the images. In this paper, the concept of pseudo-LiDAR is introduced into the odometry to solve this problem. The pseudo-LiDAR point cloud back-projects the depth map generated by the image into the 3D point cloud, which changes the way of image representation. Compared with the stereo images, the pseudo-LiDAR point cloud generated by the stereo matching network can get the explicit 3D coordinates. Since the 6 Degrees of Freedom (DoF) pose transformation occurs in 3D space, the 3D structure information provided by the pseudo-LiDAR point cloud is more direct than the image. Compared with sparse LiDAR, the pseudo-LiDAR has a denser point cloud. In order to make full use of the rich point cloud information provided by the pseudo-LiDAR, a projection-aware dense odometry pipeline is adopted. Most previous LiDAR-based algorithms sampled 8192 points from the point cloud as input to the odometry network. The projection-aware dense odometry pipeline takes all the pseudo-LiDAR point clouds generated from the images except for the error points as the input to the network. While making full use of the 3D geometric information in the images, the semantic information in the images is also used in the odometry task. The fusion of 2D-3D is achieved in an image-only based odometry. Experiments on the KITTI dataset prove the effectiveness of our method. In multi-infeed hybrid AC-DC (MIDC) systems, the emergency frequency control (EFC) with LCC-HVDC systems participating is of vital importance for system frequency stability. Nevertheless, when regional power systems are operated by different decision-makers, the LCC-HVDC systems and their connected AC systems might be unwilling to participate in the EFC due to the costs and losses. In this paper, to incentivize the LCC-HVDC systems and their connected adjacent AC systems to participate in the droop-based EFC, a novel control-parameter-based incentive mechanism is proposed, which can deal with various possible emergency frequency faults. Then, a non-cooperative-based incentive game model is formulated to implement the incentive mechanism in the MIDC system. An algorithm for seeking the Nash equilibrium is designed, and the uniqueness of Nash equilibrium is proven. Moreover, the individual rationality, incentive compatibility and social optimality of the proposed mechanism are analyzed and proven. Leader-following formation analysis problem for a second-order nonlinear multi-agent system(MAS) with input saturation is investigated in this paper. And the impulsive formation control algorithm is introduced in the designed protocol which only works at the impulse times. Owing to the real-world limited communication channels, input saturation is considered in the impulsive controller. Furthermore, based on Lyapunov stability theories, Kronecker properties, eigenvalue and so on, some sufficient conditions that guarantee the leader-following consensus of MAS are obtained. Lastly, several simulations are worked out to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the theoretical results.
