Optimal synthesis of opacity-enforcing supervisors for qualitative and quantitative specifications

In this paper, we investigate both qualitative and quantitative synthesis of optimal privacy-enforcing supervisors for partially-observed discrete-event systems. We consider a dynamic system whose information-flow is partially available to an intruder, which is modeled as a passive observer. We assume that the system has a "secret" that does not want to be revealed to the intruder. Our goal is to synthesize a supervisor that controls the system in a least-restrictive manner such that the closed-loop system meets the privacy requirement. For the qualitative case, we adopt the notion of infinite-step opacity as the privacy specification by requiring that the intruder can never determine for sure that the system is/was at a secret state for any specific instant. If the qualitative synthesis problem is not solvable or the synthesized solution is too restrictive, then we further investigate the quantitative synthesis problem so that the secret is revealed (if unavoidable) as late as possible. Effective algorithms are provided to solve both the qualitative and quantitative synthesis problems. Specifically, by building suitable information structures that involve information delays, we show that the optimal qualitative synthesis problem can be solved as a safety-game. The optimal quantitative synthesis problem can also be solved as an optimal total-cost control problem over an augmented information structure. Our work provides a complete solution to the standard infinite-step opacity control problem, which has not been solved without assumption on the relationship between controllable events and observable events. Furthermore, we generalize the opacity enforcement problem to the numerical setting by introducing the secret-revelation-time as a new quantitative measure. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. This paper explores the state controllability of multilayer networked sampled-data systems with inter-layer couplings, where zero-order holders (ZOHs) are on the control and transmission channels. The effects of both single- and multi-rate sampling on controllability of multilayer networked linear time-invariant (LTI) systems are analyzed, with some sufficient and/or necessary controllability conditions derived. Under specific conditions, the pathological sampling of single node systems could be eliminated by the network structure and inner couplings among different nodes and different layers. The representative drive-response inter-layer coupling mode is studied, and it reveals that the whole system could be controllable due to the inter-layer couplings even if the response layer is uncontrollable itself. Moreover, simulated examples show that the modification of sampling rate on local channels could lay a positive or negative effect on the controllability of the whole system. All the results indicate that the controllability of the multilayer networked sampled-data system is collectively affected by mutually coupled factors. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. This paper focuses on the Learning MPC design of the FCCU regenerator for automatically searching for the optimal stabilizing control law, which contains strong nonlinear characteristics and slow time-varying dynamics due to the catalyst aging or component changes. In order to guarantee the decreasing of the variance of the prediction of the identified model, which could relax the stability constraint and reduce conservatism, the FCCU is transformed into a parametric linear form by means of the polynomial fitting, then Set-Membership identification is used to update the system model, the variance bound of the updated model is deduced. According to the decreasing variance bound, the Lyapunov constraint is designed and is used in the optimization problem of MPC. The proposed method could still guarantee feasibility and stability during updating. Besides, the decreasing of the unstable region, which represents the steady-state error, could also be achieved based on the decreasing identification variance. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ALMPC with constraint updating performs better than the MPC without constraint updating.

Multiple object tracking (MOT) is a significant task in achieving autonomous driving. Traditional works attempt to complete this task, either based on point clouds (PC) collected by LiDAR, or based on images captured from cameras. However, relying on one single sensor is not robust enough, because it might fail during the tracking process. On the other hand, feature fusion from multiple modalities contributes to the improvement of accuracy. As a result, new techniques based on different sensors integrating features from multiple modalities are being developed. Texture information from RGB cameras and 3D structure information from Lidar have respective advantages under different circumstances. However, it’s not easy to achieve effective feature fusion because of completely distinct information modalities. Previous fusion methods usually fuse the top-level features after the backbones extract the features from different modalities. In this paper, we first introduce PointNet++ to obtain multi-scale deep representations of point cloud to make it adaptive to our proposed Interactive Feature Fusion between multi-scale features of images and point clouds. Specifically, through multi-scale interactive query and fusion between pixel-level and point-level features, our method, can obtain more distinguishing features to improve the performance of multiple object tracking. Besides, we explore the effectiveness of pre-training on each single modality and fine-tuning on the fusion-based model. The experimental results demonstrate that our method can achieve good performance on the KITTI benchmark and outperform other approaches without using multi-scale feature fusion. Moreover, the ablation studies indicates the effectiveness of multi-scale feature fusion and pre-training on single modality. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper investigates the finite-horizon distributionally robust mixed-integer control (DRMIC) of uncertain linear systems. However, deriving an optimal causal feedback control policy to this DRMIC problem is computationally formidable for most ambiguity sets. To address the computational challenge, we propose a novel distributionally robust lifted control policy (DR-LCP) method to derive a high-quality approximate solution to this DRMIC problem for a rich class of Wasserstein metric-based ambiguity sets, including the Wasserstein ambiguity set and its variants. In theory, we analyze the asymptotic performance and establish a tight non-asymptotic bound of the proposed method. In numerical experiments, the proposed DR-LCP method empirically demonstrates superior performance compared with existing methods in the literature. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper proposes a Risk-Averse Just-In-Time (RAJIT) operation scheme for Ammonia-Hydrogen-based Micro-Grids (AHMGs) to boost electricity-hydrogen-ammonia coupling under uncertainties. First, an off-grid AHMG model is developed, featuring a novel multi-mode ammonia synthesis process and a hydrogen-ammonia dual gas turbine with tunable feed-in ratios. Subsequently, a state-behavior mapping strategy linking hydrogen storage levels with the operation modes of ammonia synthesis is established to prevent cost-ineffective shutdowns. The proposed model substantially improves operational flexibility but results in a challenging nonlinear fractional program. Based upon this model, a data-driven RAJIT scheme is developed for the real-time rolling optimization of AHMGs. Unlike conventional one-size-fits-all schemes using one optimization method throughout, the data-driven RAJIT intelligently switches between cost-effective deterministic optimization and risk-averse online-learning distributionally robust optimization depending on actual risk profiles, thus capitalizing on the respective strengths of these two optimization methods. To facilitate the solution of the resulting nonlinear program, we develop an equivalent-reformulation-based solution methodology by leveraging a constraint-tightening technique. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed scheme guarantees safety and yields an overall cost reduction up to 14.6% compared with several state-of-the-art methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Traffic light is the most significant component of road transportation. Traffic lights control the traffic movement at intersections by allowing the movement of some lanes and forbidding that of the others to ensure safety and efficiency. It is important for intelligent vehicles to understand the meaning of traffic lights. Conventional research works on traffic light detection and tracking consider each light independently, so the occlusion of some lights may mislead the decision of the vehicle. Since all traffic lights at an intersection work together, it is more essential to understand the traffic movement status controlled by the traffic lights rather than the perception of a single light. Therefore, this paper proposes a spatial-temporal-rule-based framework to interpret the current traffic movement status and predict the next status. The spatial information, including position and class, is obtained by traffic light detection. The temporal information is perceived by the proposed topologic-feature-based tracking method. The rule information is recognized by combination of spatial and temporal information. A dual-view camera system consisting of a telephoto camera and a wide-angle camera is adopted to ensure long perception distance and wide coverage simultaneously. The successful tracking of traffic lights from 200 m to 10 m away provides enough data to recognize the phase-change rule, which leads to correct interpretation and prediction. A customized dataset was collected, and experiments were conducted to illustrate the capability of the proposed method.

This paper presents a distributed shadow dynamic consensus (DSDC) framework to address the generation company (GENCO) strategic bidding problem in the independent system operator (ISO) operation. First, each sub-group is defined according to the communication principle. The global resource allocation can be solved by introducing the local shadow power demand. Then, for the general market clearing optimization problem, a distributed dynamic consensus algorithm is presented to estimate the general equality constraint. The optimal locational marginal price (LMP) and power allocation in each sub-group are obtained in this step. Finally, the optimal solution is corrected when considering the transmission constraint. A theoretical analysis of the DSDC framework is provided. The algorithm and model are tested by the IEEE 30-bus test system to support the proposed DSDC framework.

Quantum trajectory can be viewed as a numerical simulation method for wavefunctions which consume smaller memories compared to density matrices in master equations. In this paper, we adopt quantum trajectory to simulate the evolution of a non-Markovian quantum system modeled by an augmented system and further use parallel computing to improve efficiency. Compared to the Lindblad master equation solver in QuTiP, it can run more efficiently using less memory. In the example of a 8-spin-chain non-Markovian system, it only takes about 0.57% of the memory footprint and 4.12% of the runtime of the solver for the Lindblad master equation.
