SAM4UDASS: When SAM Meets Unsupervised Domain Adaptive Semantic Segmentation in Intelligent Vehicles

Semantic segmentation plays a critical role in enabling intelligent vehicles to comprehend their surrounding environments. However, deep learning-based methods usually perform poorly in domain shift scenarios due to the lack of labeled data for training. Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) techniques have emerged to bridge the gap across different driving scenes and enhance model performance on unlabeled target environments. Although self-training UDA methods have achieved state-of-the-art results, the challenge of generating precise pseudo-labels persists. These pseudo-labels tend to favor majority classes, consequently sacrificing the performance of rare classes or small objects like traffic lights and signs. To address this challenge, we introduce SAM4UDASS, a novel approach that incorporates the Segment Anything Model (SAM) into self-training UDA methods for refining pseudo-labels. It involves Semantic-Guided Mask Labeling, which assigns semantic labels to unlabeled SAM masks using UDA pseudo-labels. Furthermore, we devise fusion strategies aimed at mitigating semantic granularity inconsistency between SAM masks and the target domain. SAM4UDASS innovatively integrate SAM with UDA for semantic segmentation in driving scenes and seamlessly complements existing self-training UDA methodologies. Extensive experiments on synthetic-to-real and normal-to-adverse driving datasets demonstrate its effectiveness. It brings more than 3% mIoU gains on GTA5-to-Cityscapes, SYNTHIA-to-Cityscapes, and Cityscapes-to-ACDC when using DAFormer and achieves SOTA when using MIC. Vehicle platooning is an innovative technology for intelligent transportation systems. Each vehicle in the platoon is required to autonomously follow its front vehicle's path unconditionally and accurately. For platoons without communication, accurate path and velocity estimation of the front vehicle is challenging and crucial. Instead of memorizing the original detection result of the front vehicle to generate a path, the path is estimated by fusing motion prediction and observation in this paper. Since there is a correlation between the two estimates, Split Covariance Intersection Filter is used to guarantee the fusion consistency. Besides, a motion model considering velocity is used in the filter to achieve a precise estimate of the predecessor's velocity simultaneously. Moreover, a path generation approach is designed in a high-frequency loop independent of front vehicle detection to improve continuity of the path. Experimental validations in the real-world environment highlight the remarkable improvement in the accuracy of both path and velocity estimation. Meanwhile, the path generated by the proposed approach is more continuous compared with the commonly used method. Furthermore, complete vehicle platooning demonstrations in diverse environments prove the practicality and robustness of the proposed approach.

Contemporary industrial parks are challenged by the growing concerns about high cost and low efficiency of energy supply. Moreover, in the case of uncertain supply/demand, how to mobilize delay-tolerant elastic loads and compensate real-time inelastic loads to match multi-energy generation/storage and minimize energy cost is a key issue. Since energy management is hardly to be implemented offline without knowing statistical information of random variables, this paper presents a systematic online energy cost minimization framework to fulfill the complementary utilization of multi-energy with time-varying generation, demand and price. Specifically to achieve charging/discharging constraints due to storage and short-term energy balancing, a fast distributed algorithm based on stochastic gradient with two-timescale implementation is proposed to ensure online implementation. To reduce the peak loads, an incentive mechanism is implemented by estimating users' willingness to shift. Analytical results on parameter setting are also given to guarantee feasibility and optimality of the proposed design. Numerical results show that when the bid-ask spread of electricity is small enough, the proposed algorithm can achieve the close-to-optimal cost asymptotically. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

The high-dimensional generalization of the one-dimensional Kuramoto paradigm has been an essential step in bringing about a more faithful depiction of the dynamics of real-world systems. Despite the multi-dimensional nature of the oscillators in these generalized models, the interacting schemes so far have been dominated by a scalar factor unanimously between any pair of oscillators that leads eventually to synchronization on all dimensions. As a natural extension of the scalar coupling befitting for the one-dimensional case, we take a tentative step in studying numerically and theoretically the coupling mechanism of 2 × 2 real matrices on two-dimensional Kuramoto oscillators. One of the features stemmed from this new mechanism is that the matrix coupling enables the two dimensions of the oscillators to separate their transitions to either synchronization or desynchronization which has not been seen in other high-dimensional generalizations. Under various matrix configurations, the synchronization and desynchronization of the two dimensions combine into four qualitatively distinct modes of position and motion of the system. We demonstrate that as one matrix is morphed into another in a specific manner, the system mode also switches correspondingly either through continuous or explosive transitions of the order parameters, thus mimicking a range of behaviors in information science and biology. Topology inference for network systems (NSs) plays a crucial role in many areas. This paper advocates a causality-based method based on noisy observations from a single trajectory of a NS, which is represented by the state-space model with general directed topology. Specifically, we first prove its close relationships with the ideal Granger estimator for multiple trajectories and the traditional ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator for a single trajectory. Along with this line, we analyze the non-asymptotic inference performance of the proposed method by taking the OLS estimator as a reference, covering both asymptotically and marginally stable systems. The derived convergence rates and accuracy results suggest the proposed method has better performance in addressing potentially correlated observations and achieves zero inference error asymptotically. Besides, an online/recursive version of our method is established for efficient computation or time-varying cases. Extensions on NSs with nonlinear dynamics are also discussed. Comprehensive tests corroborate the theoretical findings and comparisons with other algorithms highlight the superiority of the proposed method. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Distributed Stabilization of Signed Networks via Self-loop Compensation

This paper examines the stability and distributed stabilization of signed multi-agent networks. Here, positive semidefiniteness is not inherent for signed Laplacians, which renders the stability and consensus of this category of networks intricate. First, we examine the stability of signed networks by introducing a novel graph-theoretic objective negative cut set, which implies that manipulating negative edge weights cannot change a unstable network into a stable one. Then, inspired by the diagonal dominance and stability of matrices, a local state damping mechanism is introduced using self-loop compensation. The self-loop compensation is only active for those agents who are incident to negative edges and can stabilize signed networks in a fully distributed manner. Quantitative connections between selfloop compensation and the stability of the compensated signed network are established for a tradeoff between compensation efforts and network stability. Necessary and/or sufficient conditions for predictable cluster consensus of compensated signed networks are provided. The optimality of self-loop compensation is discussed. Furthermore, we extend our results to directed signed networks where the symmetry of signed Laplacian is not free. The correlation between the stability of the compensated dynamics obtained by self-loop compensation and eventually positivity is further discussed. Novel insights into the stability of multi-agent systems on signed networks in terms of self-loop compensation are offered. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the theoretical results. Due to the different losses caused by various photovoltaic (PV) array faults, accurate diagnosis of fault types is becoming increasingly important. Compared with a single one, multiple PV stations collect sufficient fault samples, but their data is not allowed to be shared directly due to potential conflicts of interest. Therefore, federated learning can be exploited to train a collaborative fault diagnosis model. However, the modeling efficiency is seriously affected by the model update mechanism since each PV station has a different computing capability and amount of data. Moreover, for the safe and stable operation of the PV system, the robustness of collaborative modeling must be guaranteed rather than simply being processed on a central server. To address these challenges, a novel asynchronous decentralized federated learning (ADFL) framework is proposed. Each PV station not only trains its local model but also participates in collaborative fault diagnosis by exchanging model parameters to improve the generalization without losing accuracy. The global model is aggregated distributedly to avoid central node failure. By designing the asynchronous update scheme, the communication overhead and training time are greatly reduced. In this paper, a high sensitive voltage detector is proposed and its electrical characteristics are investigated using technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation. Germanium (Ge) source and line configuration TFET is adopted to obtain an ultra sensitive detection capability. Corresponding operating principle is explained and the impact of the key parameters on the voltage detector is also discussed. The simulation results show that the new proposed Ge source line TFET based voltage detector has a low leakage current and high detection sensitivity under the electrostatic discharge (ESD) and surge events compared to traditional detectors.

Multi-link serial robots have gained growing popularity in robot-Assisted surgeries with the advantages of flexibility and versatility. This type of robot has be introduced into the uterus manipulation in laparoscopic hysterectomy (UMLH) to mitigate the disadvantages of our previous robotic uterus manipulator. Compared with the other surgical tasks (e.g. laparoscope manipulation, orthopedic and neurosurgery surgeries), the UMLH has a more narrow workspace and a stringent task requirement. Selecting the proper initial configuration of the robot is a key issue for such kind of surgical operations. In this paper, we develop a scheme to select appropriate initial configurations for the UMLH. Moreover, our method can satisfy both the static RCM and dynamic RCM. In an dynamic RCM, the task path or trajectory depends on the robot initial pose and arbitrary (or indefinite) with respect to the robot base frame. We also proposed a criterion, i.e. configuration-Type task capability (CTTC), to measure the task capability of a given configuration-Type for the dynamic RCMs. Simulations are carried out to validate our scheme. © 2022 IEEE.
