Introduction: Previous studies have shown that applying external vibrational load of a certain frequency and intensity can accelerate the tooth movement, thus shorten orthodontic treatment time. It is believed that the optimal frequency is correlative to the modal mode of the target toothperiodontal ligament(PDL)-bone complex(TPBC). This study aims to investigate modal mode, natural frequencies included,of the TPBC using finite element(FE) method. Methods: A three dimensional TPBC model of a maxillary central incisor were reconstructed from cone beam CT images. A FE model was then created in Ansys 14.5. The tooth, PDL, and bone were meshed with 10-node hexahedral elements(SOLID 187)with the numbers of the elements equaled to 17,803, 4,137,and 32,577, respectively. All parts were considered homogeneous and isotropic. The material properties(Young's Module(Pa),Poisson's ratio and Density(kg/m3) as: 2e10, 0.31 and 1.36e3 for tooth, 4.7e5, 0.4 and 1.1e3 for PDL, and 3.5e9, 0.33 and 1.4e3 for bone, respectively. Fixed constraint was set for the alveolar bone. PCG Lanczos method was used in the modal *** order modes were included in the computation. Result:The first six order modal mode of the TPBC were *** corresponding natural frequencies were 702, 1049, 2713,2805, 3026, and 3530 Hz, respectively. Different tooth movement patterns, including translation, rotation, extrusion/intrusion,were observed in these modal modes. Conclusion: The proposed method is able to obtain the natural frequencies and modal modes of a TPBC. The results can be used as reference for developing vibrational device to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement.

In this paper, a historical objective function benchmark is proposed to monitor the performance of data-driven subspace predictive controlsystems. A new criterion for selection of the historical data set can be used to monitor the controller0s performance, instead of using traditional methods based on prior knowledge. Under this monitoring framework, users can define their own index based on different demands and can also obtain the historical benchmark with a better sensitivity. Finally, a distillation column simulation example is used to illustrate the validity of the proposed algorithms.

Contractively invariant ellipsoids have been extensively used as estimates of the domain of attraction of a linear system under a saturated linear feedback. For a discrete-time linear system with a single input subject to actuator saturation, based on a convex hull representation of the saturated linear feedback, a necessary and sufficient condition for an ellipsoid to be contractively invariant was previously established. Based on this condition, the determination of the maximal contractively invariant ellipsoid can be formulated and solved as an LMI problem. In this paper, we develop a criterion to determine if a contractively invariant ellipsoid is the maximal one for discrete-time saturated linear systems with multiple inputs. This criterion is based on the solution of an LMI problem, which involves a generalized convex hull representation of saturated linear feedbacks, and includes the existing result for discrete-time saturated linear systems with a single input as a special case. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

An anti-windup compensate algorithm for active disturbance rejection mechanism is proposed in this paper. This paradigm extends the traditional anti-windup scheme to the Active Disturbance Rejection control(ADRC) mechanism, to deal with the input saturation nonlinearity and meanwhile reject the disturbance automatically by using Extended State Observer(ESO). The output of anti-windup compensator is treated as a part of unknown disturbances and is introduced into the ESO, which can online observe both internal and external disturbances(parameter uncertainties and model mismatches). The controller input is yielded by using a nonlinear feedback combination, and it is used to compensate the integrator windup caused by the saturation nonlinearity element. On the other hand, in order to determine the parameters of the ESO and the anti-windup compensator feedback gain, the L2 gain is adopted. The effectiveness and the robustness against model and parameter uncertainties of the proposed method is verified by an example of the seeker platform.

In order to control the large-scale urban traffic network through hierarchical or decentralized methods, it is necessary to exploit a network partition method, which should be both effective in extracting subnetworks and fast to compute. In this paper, a new approach to calculate the correlation degree, which determines the desire for interconnection between two adjacent intersections, is first proposed. It is used as a weight of a link in an urban traffic network, which considers both the physical characteristics and the dynamic traffic information of the link. Then, a fast network division approach by optimizing the modularity, which is a criterion to distinguish the quality of the partition results, is applied to identify the subnetworks for large-scale urban traffic networks. Finally, an application to a specified urban traffic network is investigated using the proposed algorithm. The results show that it is an effective and efficient method for partitioning urban traffic networks automatically in real world.
