In this paper, the performance of a two-way amplify and forward (AF) multi-antenna relay network is presented, where the worse receive signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the two end users is maximized. We first derive the exact probability density function (PDF) of receive SNR for two users. Then an approximate expression of SNR in the high-SNR regime is obtained. A closed-form average sum bit error rate (BER) approximation is also derived to quantify the performance of the antenna selection system at high SNR. It is shown by simulation that our analytical result is efficient in estimating the network reliability, especially in the high transmit SNR region.

Aim at enhancing dexterous and safe operation in unstructured environment, a cable-driven soft robotic manipulator is designed in this paper. Due to soft material it made of and nearly infinite degree of freedom it owns, the soft robotic manipulator has higher security and dexterity than traditional rigid-link manipulator, which make it suitable to perform tasks in complex environments that is narrow, confined and unstructured. Though the soft robotic manipulator possesses advantages above, it is not an easy thing for it to achieve precise position control. In order to solve this problem, a kinematic model based on piecewise constant curvature hypothesis is proposed. Through building up three spaces and two mappings, the relationship between the length variables of 4 cables and the position and orientation of the soft robotic manipulator end-effector is obtained. Afterwards, a depth-independent image Jacobian matrix is introduced and an image-based visual servo controller is presented. Applied by adaptive algorithm, the controller could estimate unknown position of the feature point online, and then Lyapunov theory is used to prove the stability of the proposed controller. At last, experiments are conducted to demonstrate rationality and validity of the kinematic model and adaptive visual servo controller.

A multiple anti-windup loops under multiple dynamic activations strategy is proposed to enlarge the domain of attraction. In the research field of Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS), traffic flow prediction is a key technology for traffic guidance and advanced control strategy. Accuracy and immediacy are the main requirements for prediction methods. This paper presents a short-term prediction algorithm of traffic flow rate based on the macroscopic urban road network model. Classified into different typical elements, a traffic road network can be expressed as a matrix. Taking crosses and their links as basic research objects, the proposed prediction method can only use a few real traffic parameters obtained from loop detectors to realize accurate short-term prediction of traffic flow rate. This method can also be adaptable to different kinds of road network. In case study, the real traffic system is simulated with the microscopic traffic simulation platform (CORSIM). In the given simulation environment of road network, the experiment results illustrate that the proposed prediction algorithm can accurately predict flow rate in short term. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper addresses an issue of short-term traffic flow prediction in urban traffic networks with traffic signals in intersections. An effective spatial prediction approach is proposed based on a macroscopic urban traffic network model. In contrast with other time series based or spatio-temporal correlation methods, this research focuses on the substantial mechanism of vehicles transmission on road segments and the spatial model of the entire urban network. Furthermore, this approach employs a simple speed-density model based on the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) to obtain a more accurate vehicle travel time on the link. Finally, the microscopic traffic simulation software, CORSIM, is adopted to simulate the real urban traffic, and the proposed method is used to predict the traffic flows generated by CORSIM. The simulation results illustrate that our approach performs effective prediction timely in the rush hours, as well as the suddenly changed traffic states. © 2012 IEEE.

An innovative sliding mode controller for looper and tension control in hot strip finishing mills was developed based on approximately linearized model. Firstly, a fictitious controller of the reduced order subsystem was designed according to desired dynamics, by which, the angle and tension loops were decoupled on the sliding manifold. Then, a sliding mode controller was used to validate finite time convergence of the state vector to the manifold which guaranteed the stability and performances of the overall system. This solution was considered owing to its well- known robustness and simplicity characteristics concerning disturbances and unmodelled dynamics. Simulation results showed the effectiveness of the proposed controller compared with conventional ones.

Sliding Mode Predictive control of Main Steam Pressure in Coal-fired Power Plant Boiler

Since the combustion system of coal-fired boiler in thermal power plant is characterized as time varying, strongly coupled, and nonlinear, it is hard to achieve a satisfactory performance by the conventional proportional integral derivative (PID) control scheme. For the characteristics of the main steam pressure in coal-fired power plant boiler, the sliding mode control system with Smith predictive structure is proposed to look for performance and robustness improvement. First, internal model control (IMC) and Smith predictor (SP) is used to deal with the time delay, and sliding mode controller (SMCr) is designed to overcome the model mismatch. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller compared with conventional ones.

Background extraction is a fundamental task in many computer vision applications. This paper presents a novel method based on K-means Clustering Algorithm. First, the intensity values are divided into several groups by clustering method automatically. Then the mean of intensities in the most frequent group is assigned as the background intensity. The experiment results show that the proposed approach achieves more accurate background than traditional method. © 2012 IEEE.

Epistasis learning is becoming more and more important in genome-wide association (GWA) studies as single loci association test could only explain a small proportion of heredity of common human diseases. Many epistasis or gene-gene interaction learning methods have come out to try to solve the problem which is on the way of learning epistasis, which is computable difficult to search for high order epistatic interactions underlie common human disease and they have shown quite an ability to work on such a problem. But as single nucleotide polymorphism's (SNP) dimensionality is growing larger and larger in current generated genome-wide association datasets, of which the number of samples that could be used to do GWA analysis is smaller relatively. How to solve the problem of epistasis learning caused by this dimensionality disaster is still a critical challenge for our genetic scientists. In this article, we propose a novel approach which could find a gene-gene interaction model consists of a flexible number of susceptible loci based on ant colony optimization (ACO) strategy and we conduct a lot of experiments on a wide range of simulated datasets and compare the outcome of our ACO method with some other epistasis learning methods like Bayesian combinational method (BayCom) and Multi beam search method (MBS), found that our ACO method is quite available and time efficient to solve the haystack problem to learn epistatic interactions and it may become a potential solution to search for complex association rules between susceptible SNP subset and common human disease in the future. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Anti-windup design is an intuitive and efficient way to deal with input saturation *** the classic antiwindup design,the compensator is set to be activated immediately as the control signal saturates the *** important innovation in the anti-windup activation mechanism is to delay the activation of the anti-windup mechanism until the saturation reaches to a certain severity which led to a performance improvement of the resulting closed-loop *** recently,it was shown that by activating a static anti-windup mechanism in anticipation of actuator saturation,significant further performance improvements can be achieved in comparison with the delayed activation *** addition,we have combined both the delayed and anticipatory activation mechanisms,to develop the multiple activation strategy,in terms of(?) gain *** paper furthermore considers the problem of enlarging domain of attraction and demonstrates that the multiple activation of a static multiple feedback anti-windup mechanism would also lead to significant performance improvements over both the immediate and delayed activation schemes.
