Despite its potential advantages for fMRI analysis, fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering suffers from limitations such as the need for a priori knowledge of the number of clusters, and unknown statistical significance and instability of the results. We propose a randomization-based method to control the false positive rate and estimate statistical significance of the FCM results. Using this novel approach, we develop an fMRI activation detection method. The ability of the method in controlling the false positive rate is shown by analysis of false positives in activation maps of resting-state fMRI data. controlling the false positive rate in FCM allows comparison of different fuzzy clustering methods, using different feature spaces, to other fMRI detection methods. In this paper, using simulation and real fMRI data, we compare a novel feature space that takes the variability of the hemodynamic response function into account (HRF-based feature space) to the conventional cross-correlation analysis and FCM using the cross-correlation feature space.

In this paper, subspace-based algorithms for the simultaneous identification of the linear and nonlinear parts of multivariable Hammerstein and Wiener models are presented. The proposed algorithms consist basically of two steps. The first one is a standard (linear) subspace algorithm applied to an equivalent linear system whose inputs (respectively outputs) are filtered (by the nonlinear functions describing the static nonlinearities) versions of the original inputs (respectively outputs). The second step consists in a 2-norm minimization problem which is solved via a Singular Value Decomposition.

A modified LMS algorithm for noise-control is suggested after a mathematical model ofsound-cancellation is established, on the basis of thesound wave interference principle and the physicalmodel of progressive waves in a duct. Its applicationin controlling noise with the frequency range from 100to 800 Hz can be implemented by using the adaptivedigital signalprocessing technique. The experimentson a pink noise, a broadband noise and a noise takenfrom a tank were made, which show that there existsan attenuation of 11 dB at the frequency of 500 Hzor so, and that the proposed adaptive noise controltechnique is very effective and valid.

In this paper an ASIC implementation of a novel bus protocol is presented. This bus is designed to transmit data inside the lowest level of hierarchy of an industrial automation system. Messages consist of control and measurement information between separate modules of a distributed actuator. The bus protocol circuit is designed to form a macrocell which can be used alone as a simple ASIC or as a communication part inside a larger ASIC. The bus protocol was first tested with FPGA circuits and then implemented as an ASIC circuit.< >

Today many industrial products are combinations of electronics, software and mechanics. The design project of such a product is difficult to manage, because the people needed to specify and design the product come from different backgrounds and they are familiar with different design methods and tools. The problems of the design of the interdisciplinary system and the methods and tools for specifying and verifying such systems are studied in this paper.< >

The 2010 Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia (PCM 2010) was held in Shanghai at Fudan University, during September 21–24, 2010. Since its inauguration in 2000, PCM has been held in various places around the Pacific Rim, namely Sydney (PCM 2000), Beijing (PCM 2001), Hsinchu (PCM 2002), Singapore (PCM 2003), Tokyo (PCM 2004), Jeju (PCM 2005), Zhejiang (PCM 2006), Hong Kong (PCM 2007), Tainan (PCM 2008), and Bangkok (PCM 2009). PCM is a major annual international conference organized as a forum for the dissemination of state-of-the-art technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied multimedia analysis and processing. PCM 2010 featured a comprehensive technical program which included 75 oral and 56 poster presentations selected from 261 submissions from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Norway, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK, and the USA. Three distinguished researchers, Prof. Zhi-Hua Zhou from Nanjing University, Dr. Yong Rui from Microsoft, and Dr. Tie-Yan Liu from Microsoft Research Asia delivered three keynote talks to the conference. We are very grateful to the many people who helped to make this conference a s- cess. We would like to especially thank Hong Lu for local organization, Qi Zhang for handling the publication of the proceedings, and Cheng Jin for looking after the c- ference website and publicity. We thank Fei Wu for organizing the special session on large-scale multimedia search in the social network settings.
