With respect to the group consensus control for multi-agent systems (MASs) with disturbances and actuator nonidentical and unknown direction faults (NUDFs), this paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant control scheme by incorporating an event-based switching function and a saturation function. The event-based switching function is implemented to directly switch to the desired working mode, thereby reducing invalid switching after a reverse fault. Concurrently, the saturation function, acting at the software level, can not only prevent the instantaneous impact of excessive reverse input caused by a reverse fault, but also eliminate input peaking and state chattering after switching the working mode. It is worth mentioning that the proposed switching-based fault-tolerant control method can avoid the control chocks and excessive control gains as in the existing methods by using Nussbaum functions and thus improve the transient performance. Additionally, for disturbances, the designed conditional disturbance compensation mechanism ensures a smaller steady-state error, and less energy consumption by utilizing beneficial disturbances and compensating for harmful ones. Besides, the conditional compensation mechanism also reduces the saturation error. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme are verified through a simulation example of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs). © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Curvilinear Structure segmentation has numerous applications in various fields, including providing a better understanding of defects such as cracks on roads or walls, thereby assessing the structural safety of buildings. Numerous curve segmentation methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) have been developed in recent years. However, preserving feature integrity remains a challenge. To address this issue, this paper introduces a double dynamic network, called DD-Net, which consists of a dynamic structure for training and dynamic masking for inference. Firstly, to enhance the nonlinearity of the model, a paradigm to auto-adjust the CNN structure via a trainable module is formed for better fine-grained feature extraction. This dynamic structure (DS) paradigm enables a trade-off to extract or discard the feature data in the model training. Due to the data heterogeneity between the training and inference data, models may contain some useless nodes that are less effective during inference. The dynamic masking (DM) is proposed to omit the useless nodes based on the score difference between the train and inference feature statistics, thereby reducing redundant computations. To further improve the model’s performance on thin-curve segmentation and to preserve feature integrity, we introduce a non-curve suppression (NCS) module. This module focuses on background information while considering foreground prediction to address noisy conditions. The experimental results show that our DD-Net achieves promising results on three benchmark datasets and outperforms state-of-the-art curve segmentation models. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Design and Performance Analysis of a Series-Parallel Self-Aligning Index Finger Exoskeleton

Hand exoskeletons have become increasingly crucial for the rehabilitation of hand function, as relevant studies have shown that using the exoskeletons to assist in rehabilitation training can improve hand motor function. However, developing a human-robot kinematic compatibility exoskeleton while providing sufficient assistance torque is still a challenge. This paper develops a series-parallel self-aligning index finger exoskeleton to assist the index finger in flexion/extension and adduction/abduction training. A series-parallel mechanism driven by two motors simultaneously was proposed for the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint, which can ensure human-robot joint axes self-alignment and increase the joint assistance torque. A kinematic compatibility analysis method was proposed, and the kinematic compatibility of the series-parallel mechanism was analyzed. The degrees of freedom and forward kinematics of the proposed mechanism were analyzed, and its workspace was calculated, which results show that the motion range of the MCP joint can meet the grasping training requirements. Preliminary experiments were carried out, and the results indicate that the motion trajectory coefficients of the marker points at the MCP, PIP, and DIP joints averaged for all subjects with and without the proposed exoskeleton are 0.993, 0.956, and 0.939, respectively, which can verify the kinematic transparency of the proposed mechanism. The assistance torque generated by the proposed mechanism on the MCP joint can meet the joint assistance torque requirements. In a word, the proposed exoskeleton can achieve flexion/extension and adduction/abduction training, human-robot joint axes self-alignment, and provide sufficient assistance torque. © 2016 IEEE.

In recent years, deep learning has made significant progress in medical imaging, deepening the crossover between the medical and industrial fields. However, not all medical images are suitable for deep learning neural networks;simultaneously, some medical images are difficult to collect and preprocess. In this paper, we reconstruct the image information collected by dental clinicians over many years, normalizing it with diagnostic results as the gold standard. On this basis, we explore the applicability and potential of deep learning on complex medical images. Further, we compare the performance of multiple models on this dataset and visualize the learning outcomes, demonstrating that deep learning networks exhibit good learning capabilities on certain images. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

C2P-Net: Comprehensive Depth Map to Planar Depth Conversion for Room Layout Estimation

Room layout estimation seeks to infer the overall spatial configuration of indoor scenes using perspective or panoramic images. As the layout is determined by the dominant indoor planes, this problem inherently requires the reconstruction of these planes. Some studies reconstruct indoor planes from perspective images by learning pixel-level or instance-level plane parameters. However, directly learning these parameters has the problems of susceptibility to occlusions and position dependency. In this paper, we introduce the Comprehensive depth map to Planar depth (C2P) conversion, which reformulates planar depth reconstruction into the prediction of a comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Based on the parametric representation of planar depth we propose, the C2P conversion is applicable to both panoramic and perspective images. Accordingly, we present an effective framework for room layout estimation that jointly learns the comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Due to the differentiability of the C2P conversion, our network autonomously learns planar visibility confidence by constraining the estimated plane parameters and reconstructed planar depth map. We further propose a novel approach for 3D layout generation through sequential planar depth map integration. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method across all evaluated panoramic and perspective datasets. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Risk Assessment Based Time-adjusted Optimization for Safe and Fast Flight of Quadrotor UAVs

Generating an executable reference trajectory in realtime is a core of autonomous navigation for a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). In the paper, a timeadjusted optimization method is proposed for UAV motion planning to achieve safe and fast flight. Firstly, based on parameterization for uniform B-spline trajectories, relationship of knot spans and UAV speeds is analyzed, and an iterative velocity restrict algorithm is introduced to tackle nonexecutable flight. Subsequently, combining start and target points in local planning, an evaluation criterion function is designed with control points of the above trajectory and directions of collision avoidance. On this basis, risk assessment is conducted according to surrounding environments, where four phases of passing obstacles is constructed by considering risk level variation. Then, the weight function in each phase is determined by relationship of obstacle and planned local trajectory. Moreover, time intervals of B-spline trajectories are adjusted to obtain nonuniform trajectories, so as to affect UAV speeds. Simulation and experiment are conducted with comparison to verify performance of the proposed method. © 2025 IEEE.

Research and application of Gaussian coupled control bistable stochastic resonance system with independent parameter regulation

The theory of Stochastic Resonance (SR) has drawn significant attention due to its exceptional ability to detect faint signals. Despite this, research to date indicates that for SR systems, whether they are monostable, bistable, or multi-stable, modifications to the system parameters lead to concurrent alterations in the depth and breadth of the potential wells when analyzing engineering signals, which results in suboptimal detection outcomes. To address these issues, a two-dimensional Gaussian bistable coupled SR (GBCSR) system has been proposed that can individually adjust the potential well characteristics. This innovative system facilitates the separate adjustment of shape characteristics of potential, allowing for more precise manipulation of the system's dynamic response. The system's non-linear dynamic traits are explicated through an analysis of the steady-state probability density (SPD) function and the mean first passage time (MFPT), substantiating the effectiveness of the new model. In practical scenarios, a variety of bearing defect signals serve as the objects of detection. The structural parameters of the GBCSR system are co-optimized using the Brain Storm Optimization (BSO) algorithm. This optimization approach leverages the algorithm's ability to enhance population diversity and improve convergence accuracy, thereby optimizing the system's performance. The experimental outcome results show that the proposed system can accurately detect the frequency of bearing fault signals. When compared with traditional SR systems such as the traditional bistable stochastic SR (TBSR), the traditional Gaussian SR system (TGSR), and the cascade stochastic resonance system, the proposed coupled system demonstrates superior performance. This is achieved through the transfer of energy or information between subsystems, which enables more efficient utilization of noise energy. Tissue P systems are a class of distributed and parallel computing models inspired from inter-cellular communication and cooperation between cells. In this work, a variant of tissue P system, named tissue P system with look-ahead mode, is discussed for decreasing the inherent non-determinism of tissue P systems and helping implementing tissue P systems on computers. Such systems are proved to be universal by simulating register machine, and they are also proved to be able to efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff, which is illustrated with a polynomial solution to 3-coloring problem.

Event-Triggered Fully Distributed control: A Model-Free Adaptive Learning Algorithm

This paper studies the consensus problem in multi-agent systems (MASs) under the challenge of an unknown system model and limited communication resources. A novel model-free adaptive learning algorithm is developed to learn the controller from system data. A model-based event-triggered fully distributed control (ET-FDC) algorithm is proposed to achieve consensus while saving the limited communication resources. Furthermore, a data-driven systematic learning methodology for the ET-FDC algorithm is introduced to eliminate the need for a system model. Compared with existing approaches, the main advantages of the proposed method are that it not only avoids using the system model and global topology information, but also reduces unnecessary communication. Finally, simulations are presented to illustrate the superiority of the theoretical results. © 2025 IEEE.

Analog in-memory-computing (AIMC) is adopted extensively in non-volatile memory for multibit multiply-and-accumulate (MAC) operation. However, the low-on/off-ratio feature of magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) impedes a high-performance AIMC macro based on spin transfer torque magnetic random access memory (STT-MRAM). Secondly, because of the uncertainty feature of a mixed-signal system under process and voltage variation, a calibration support is indispensable. Moreover, the incompatibility between a nonlinear analog signal and a linear digital signal hinders accurate computation and calibration support. To overcome these challenges, this work proposes a STT-MRAM-AIMC macro featuring: 1) a 2-level-differential cell array and a linear computing scheme with a calibration support in analog domain; 2) an analog-digital-conversion (ADC) system, including a slew-rate-independent voltage-to-time converter (SRIVTC) scheme and a self-triggered time-to-MAC value converter (STTMC) scheme; 3) a compact layout design for high area efficiency. Finally, an average accuracy of 95.44% is obtained under the TT&0.9V corner. By using the calibration strategy, the average accuracy of 97.8% and 88.6% are obtained under FF&0.945V and SS&0.855V separately, with over 30% enhancement. Furthermore, a 1.64~21.18 times area FoM than state of the art is obtained. An energy efficiency of 87.2~312.4 TOPS/W is obtained.
