For the parameter measurement of the fabricated few-mode multi-core fibers (FM-MCFs), the accuracy cannot be guaranteed due to the power coupling among each core or each mode in these fibers. In this paper, using the sensitivity of the differential mode delay (DMD) and inter-core skew (ICS) to the relative refractive index difference between each layer and cladding, we compare the simulated DMD and ICS with the measured values to get the range of relative refractive index difference. Assisted by the image processing algorithm, the core diameter and core pitch of FM-MCF are also corrected. This correction method can give a more accurate parameter selection range for FM-MCF, so as to provide data support for FM-MCFs in transmission and sensing fields. © 2023 IEEE.

Theoretical Evaluation of the Capacity-Achieving Distribution for IM-DD Fiber-Optic Channels

The capacity and capacity-achieving distribution for intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM-DD) fiber-optic channels is theoretically investigated. Different from coherent fiber-optic channels, we indicate that the capacity-achieving distribution of IM-DD systems should be discussed separately in two cases: 1) IM-DD systems without optical amplifier, which are constrained in peak power;2) IM-DD systems with optical amplifier, which are the average power constraint (APC) system. For the two models, the maximum mutual information achieving distribution, instead of the maximum input entropy achieving distribution, is numerically computed by the iterative Blahut-Arimoto (BA) algorithm. For the IM-DD system under peak power constraint (PPC), a dynamic-assignment BA algorithm is applied to find the capacity-achieving distribution with minimum cardinality. It is observed that the maximum difference between the minimum input cardinality and capacity is around 0.8 bits. For a fixed support input cardinality, although the observed shaping gain is small and only appears in low peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) regions in the PPC IM-DD system, the probabilistic shaping technique can also be used to introduce rate adaptation to the system by adjusting the shaping and FEC overheads since the capacity-achieving distribution is symmetric. In the IM-DD system under APC, a modified BA algorithm is investigated to solve for the capacity and capacity-achieving distribution, and a significant shaping gain is observed. For PAM8 and PAM16 modulation formats, 0.294 bits/symbol and 0.531 bits/symbol shaping gain can be obtained at the SNR of 20dB. Furthermore, since the capacity-achieving distribution is asymmetric in this case, a practical discussion of the PS technique is also presented. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Due to the non-stationarity and large individual differences of EEG signals, EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) usually need subject-specific calibration to tailor the decoding algorithm for each new subject, which is time-consuming and user-unfriendly, hindering their real-world applications. Transfer learning (TL) has been extensively used to expedite the calibration, by making use of EEG data from other subjects/sessions. An important consideration in TL for EEG-based BCIs is to reduce the data distribution discrepancies among different subjects/session, to avoid negative transfer. Euclidean alignment (EA) was proposed in 2020 to address this challenge. Numerous experiments from 10 different BCI paradigms demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency. This paper revisits the EA, explaining its procedure and correct usage, introducing its applications and extensions, and pointing out potential new research directions. It should be very helpful to BCI researchers, especially those who are working on EEG signal decoding. © 2025, CC BY.

The detection of soft packaging bags is a key step in the process of soft packaging bags unpacking. Time-of-flight(ToF) camera is used as vision sensor and a multi-scale detection method based on deep learning is proposed to solve the deformation and shielding problems of soft packaging bags. This method is improved on the basis of YOLOv3. Aiming at the texture disorder and shape change caused by the deformation of the soft packaging bags, the deformation convolution is used to replace the standard convolution for feature extraction. In view of the slow detection speed of YOLOv3, the inverted residual module based on depth separable convolution is used to replace the residual module. Aiming at the problem of non-detection caused by the occlusion between soft packaging bags, the loss function in YOLOv3 is improved and the size of anchor box is adjusted. The test is carried out when there were different degrees of shielding between the soft packaging bags and different degrees of deformation of the soft packaging bags. The experimental results show that the detection speed of this method reaches 0.8s/frame, the recall rate reaches 99%, and the relative positioning accuracy reaches 2 cm. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a new ESD clamp circuit which is co-triggered by RC and diode. It is immune to the false triggering caused by fast power-up events due to the diode detection mechanism. With the addition of a common source amplifier, the detection signal is enhanced, and the clamp device is turned on more quickly. The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.18 μm 1.8-V CMOS process and verified by numerical simulation. The characteristics and improvements of the new circuit are discussed. © 2021 EOS/ESD ASSOCIATION INC.

A wideband antenna-in-package (AiP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented in this paper. Air vias and metallic vias are used to form the equivalent DRA. To obtain a wideband design, a slot-loaded DRA mode and a fundamental DRA mode are simultaneously excited. Two metal strips are attached on the top surface for better impedance matching. To verify the design idea, a prototype is designed with a simulated bandwidth larger than 20 %. It should be mentioned that the presented design is compatible with silicon-based process, and thus suitable for AiP and heterogeneous integration systems. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we consider the $n \times n$ two-payer zero-sum repeated game in which one player (player X) employs the popular Hedge (also called multiplicative weights update) learning algorithm while the other player (player Y) adopts the myopic best response. The theoretical analysis on the dynamics of such game system is still rare, which is however of promising interests. We investigate the dynamics of such Hedge-myopic system by defining a metric $Q\left(\mathbf{x}_{t}\right)$, which measures the distance between the stage strategy x t and Nash Equilibrium (NE) strategy of player $\mathbf{X}$. We analyze the trend of $Q\left(\mathbf{x}_{t}\right)$ and prove that it is bounded and can only take finite values on the evolutionary path when payoffs are all rational numbers and the game has an interior NE. Based on this, we prove that the stage strategy sequence of both players are periodic after finite stages and the time-averaged strategy of player Y within one period is an exact NE strategy.

The target tracking is an fundamental ability for many oceanic applications, such as ocean surveillance, underwater rescue and etc. Due to the good mobility of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), they are the ideal devices to carry out the target tracking. However, their position accuracy severely affect the target tracking performance. Thus, in this paper, aiming at the problem of target tracking using multiple AUVs, we introduce two AUV cooperative localization and target tracking schemes. The two schemes are designed based on belief propagation and carry out the localization and tracking serially and in parallel, respectively. The features and differences of both schemes are compared and analyzed in detail. Moreover, their application prospects in underwater scenarios are discussed and further validated through simulations. As a result, two schemes have their own advantages in different situations and are suitable for multiple-AUV applications. © 2021 IEEE

A periodic leaky-wave antenna (PLWA) can usually produce a narrow beam scanning in the backward and in the forward quadrants with frequency. However, a PLWA with a low permittivity may suffer from some stopbands (e.g., open stopband and the next coming stopband) and unwanted grating lobe, as the main beam scans through broadside and in the forward quadrant. Besides, it may also suffer from an unwanted grating lobe, which limits its single-beam scanning range. This talk discusses recent advances in the research on the suppression of two stopbands (the open stopband and the next coming stopband) and unwanted grating lobe in PLWA.

A miniaturized dual-band dipole-based planar antenna for mobile satellite service (MSS) is presented. Four pairs of U-shaped arms are added at the end of the dipole, which can reduce the antenna area to 0.18 λ 0 × 0.1 λ 0 . To improve impedance matching, a pair of trapezoidal structures are loaded at the feeding point. A prototype was designed, fabricated, and measured to verify the idea. Good agreement between the simulations and measurements is obtained. The measured 10-dB impedance bandwidths are 1.83% (1512-1540 MHz) and 1.69% (1647-1675 MHz), respectively, which can fully support the 7-MHz L-band MSS.
