The development and performance of a prototype coded Active Radar Calibration (ARC) in S-band,which is used as a ground calibration reference standard for Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR), are described. The coded ARC uses phase shifting and delay techniques which affect the SAR signal in azimuth and *** ratio of the ARC signal to the background signal is improved. An internal gain stabilization subsystem, which ensures the stability of the complete signal path and Effective Isotropic Radiated Power(ERIP),is included in the prototype coded ARC. An experiment was made in microwave chamber to prove the precision of the coded ARC's Radar Cross Section(RCS).The precision concluded from the result of the experiment is

The GF-3 satellite launched in August 2016, is a C-band synthetic aperture radar(SAR) in China. With a resolution up to 1 m, GF-3 SAR imagery have made feasible the generation large-scale high resolution maps which need a high precision image registration technique. However, different remote sensing data usually have different geocoded formats. It causes misregistration when register SAR image with different projection formats. This paper discusses the method that convert the images from various projection coordinate to the unified geographic coordinate with a conversion accuracy of sub-pixel level. © VDE VERLAG GMBH • Berlin • Offenbach.

For the purpose of interpreting urban remote sensing images more effectively and comprehensively, this paper proposes a new automatic approach using objects-based boosting model. The approach associates segmentation with recognition by constructing a hierarchical objects network at first, which effectively improves the problem of detecting targets with a modifiable sliding window existed in other methods. Then the probabilistic learning integrating multiple features including color, texture, shape and location is performed to train a multi-class classifier, and label all of the objects according to their classification values. The approach also applies spatial smoothing which incorporates contextual information to eliminate the adverse effects caused by background disturbance, occlusion and so on. After vectorization procedure, final result is given. Experiments demonstrate that proposed approach achieve high exactness and robustness in interpreting manifold urban remote sensing images. ©2009 IEEE.

Cylinder tanks appear as arcs in SAR image. It is found the radius of some arcs is bigger than the radius of the tank. To analysis this phenomenon, combining the scattering theory and the principle of SAR, a novel prediction model about the SAR image of cylinder tanks, including the tanks with fixed top and floating top, is proposed. Analysis on details of the SAR image of the tanks is provided by the prediction model. Several experiments are implemented. © 2011 IEEE.

A New Approach to Airborne High Resolution SAR Motion Compensation for Large Trajectory Deviations*

The Two-step algorithm (TSA) is widely used for trajectory deviation compensation of airborne Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), by which most of the motion errors are compensated before Range curve migration compensation (RCMC) and the residual after the RCMC. We found that the RCMC in the presence of the residual motion errors results in additional range shift errors hard to be compensated for. Based on theoretical investigations, this shortage of TSA is reported and a new compensation scheme which greatly alleviates the RCMC induced errors is proposed. Besides, range resampling considering the residual motion errors is very convinent, which, however, is boresome in TSA. The new method is effective to compensate the high resolution SAR systems for large trajectory deviations, which is hard to be achieved by TSA because of the uncompensated errors. Results on the simulated data are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new method.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is widely used in ship target detection because of its ability to operate under various weather conditions. However, some target images are difficult to obtain and label, resulting in a small sample size, which limits the development of target detection. Aiming at the problem of ship target detection in small sample SAR images, domain knowledge is used to revise and enhance the basic model in this paper. Firstly, a lightweight convolutional neural network model more suitable for small-sample SAR image ship target classification is proposed, involving target pixel and aspect ratio as domain knowledge to correct the classification results. Then, for ship target detection in SAR images, the acquisition method of scale class domain knowledge is improved. Moreover, texture-related domain knowledge based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix is extracted and used as classification features for the model to revise the model. Finally, Marine Targets Classification Dataset (MTCD) and Marine Targets Detection Dataset (MTDD) are briefly introduced and adjusted to meet the requirements of this research through screening and modification. The test results on balanced MTDD and small-sample datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of domain knowledge in improving network performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Track-before-detect (TBD) is effective on weak target detection in passive bistatic radar (PBR). The probability of false alarm (PFA) and the probability of detection (PD) in TBD based on dynamic programming algorithm (DPA) are determined by threshold. The extreme value theory and generalized Pareto distribution are usually used to obtain the relationship between PD, PFA and threshold. However, DPA must be performed several times to estimate parameters resulting in much processing time. An iterative method based on Gaussian distribution is another solution but is not suitable for the Chi-square distribution in PBR. Therefore fast threshold determination methods without Gaussian assumption are proposed in this paper. First, a data simulation method is presented. Then an approximation of PD is introduced to further reduce the complexity. Moreover, empirical formulas based on the hypothesis of Chi-square distribution are developed for real-time processing. Simulations verify that the methods are more suitable for real-time processing.

Nowadays, the digital earth not only relates to the technologies of surveying and mapping geography, but also includes the analysis and cross-application of various scientific data related to geographic information. It requires a computing environment and management for the corresponding thematic application models which supports the online analysis on the digital earth. So we proposed an integrated deployment method for digital earth thematic application models based on container cloud, which provides a flexible and scalable information integration and analysis architecture for digital earth. Firstly, a Docker image building module is designed to facilitate the user to quickly build the application model into a image. Then the Docker technology is used to implement the containerization of the application model to provide a stable running environment for the application model. Finally, the Kubernetes is used to dynamically manage the cluster resources to realize rapid expansion of computing resources. In addition, the HDFS is deployed, and the image files and various scientific data respectively store with Hbase and Apache file systems. It can ensure the read and write speed of the application model and the related data and log files. It also used zabbix framework to manage the monitoring index of the container cloud cluster to ensure the execution effect of the application model. Through the tests of typical application model, it is verified that the method can integrated deploy and apply the cross-domain, hetero-architecture, multi-version and multi-class application models on the digital earth. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Liquid Water Path Retrieval Using the Lowest Frequency Channels of Fengyun-3C Microwave Radiation Imager(MWRI)

The Microwave Radiation Imager （MWRI） on board Chinese Fengyun-3 （FY-3） satellites provides measurements at 10.65, 18.7, 23.8, 36.5, and 89.0 GHz with both horizontal and vertical polarization channels. Brightness temperature measurements of those channels with their central frequencies higher than 19 GHz from satellite-based microwave imager radiometers had traditionally been used to retrieve cloud liquid water path （LWP） over ocean. The results show that the lowest frequency channels are the most appropriate for retrieving LWP when its values are large. Therefore, a modified LWP retrieval algorithm is developed for retrieving LWP of different magnitudes involving not only the high frequency channels but also the lowest frequency channels of FY-3 MWRI. The theoretical estimates of the LWP retrieval errors are between 0.11 and 0.06 mm for 10.65- and 18.7-GHz channels and between 0.02 and 0.04 mm for 36.5- and 89.0-GHz channels. It is also shown that the brightness temperature observations at 10.65 GHz can be utilized to better retrieve the LWP greater than 3 mm in the eyewall region of Super Typhoon Neoguri （2014）. The spiral structure of clouds within and around Typhoon Neoguri can be well captured by combining the LWP retrievals from different frequency channels.

The kth-order polynomial range model (PRM) for Medium-Earth-Orbit (MEO) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) signal processing is proposed, analyzed, and verified in this paper. The coefficients of the PRM are calculated according to the relative state vectors between the satellite and the given target on earth, which implies power series expansion around the beam center crossing time. In addition, the relevant two-dimensional spectrum is deduced out as well by using the principle of stationary phase (POSP) and the series reversion approximation. The accuracy of this spectrum is flexible and limited both by the order of the PRIM and the order of the spectrum in an expanded form. Therefore, the PRMbased spectrum is general for MEO SAR with any azimuth resolution at any orbit height
