Palmprint recognition has become popular and significant in many fields because of its high efficiency and accuracy in personal identification. In this paper, we present a scheme for palmprint features extraction based on deep convolutional neural network (CNN). The CNN, which naturally integrates low/mid/high-level feature, performs excellently in processing images, video and speech. We extract the palmprint features using the CNN-F architecture, and exactly evaluate the convolutional features from different layers in the network for both identification and verification tasks. The experimental results on public PolyU palmprint database illuminate that palmprint features from the CNN-F respectively achieve the optimal identification rate of 100% and verification accuracy of EER= 0.25%, which demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed palmprint CNN features. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Global Dynamics and Optimal design of a New Highly Efficient Nonlinear Energy Sink Based on Magnetic-Elastic Impacts with Negative Stiffness

A new highly efficient elastic-impact bistable nonlinear energy sink (EI-BNES) based on magnetic-elastic impacts with negative stiffness and bistability is proposed and optimized through global dynamical analysis. The EI-BNES has better robustness and higher energy dissipation rates with nearly more than 96.5% for broadband impulsive excitations than the traditional cubic NESs and single bistable NESs. The structure of negative stiffness impacts is realized by reasonable layout of permanent ring magnets and springs. A two-degree-of-freedom (two-DOF) elastic-impact system is established to describe the coupled nonlinear interaction between the main structure and the attached EI-BNES. A global Melnikov reduction analysis (GMRA) is proposed to study global dynamics and homoclinic bifurcations of the reduced two-dimensional subsystem, which is used to explain the mechanism of nonlinear targeted energy transfer (TET) and detect the threshold of impulsive amplitudes of EI-BNES for in-well and compound motions between in-well and cross-well resonance responses. A special type of saddle-center equilibrium points is also found in the non-smooth system of the EI-BNES and can be used to effectively increase the energy dissipation rates. The optimal design criterion of the tuned EI-BNES for better dissipation performance is also first discussed based on the GMRA and numerical techniques for calculating the Melnikov function of the non-smooth systems. Extracting term translation pairs is of great help for Chinese historical classics translation since term translation is the most time-consuming and challenging part in the translation of historical classics. However, it is tough to recognize the terms directly from ancient Chinese due to the flexible syntactic of ancient Chinese and the word segmentation errors of ancient Chinese will lead to more errors in term translation extraction. Considering most of the terms in ancient Chinese are still reserved in modern Chinese and the terms in modern Chinese are more easily to be identified, we propose a term translation extracting method using multi-features based on character-based model to extract historical term translation pairs from modern Chinese-English corpora instead of ancient Chinese-English corpora. Specifically, we first employ character-based BiLSTM-CRF model to identify historical terms in modern Chinese without word segmentation, which avoids word segmentation error spreading to the term alignment. Then we extract English terms according to initial capitalization rules. At last, we align the English and Chinese terms based on co-occurrence frequency and transliteration feature. The experiment on Shiji demonstrates that the performance of the proposed method is far superior to the traditional method, which confirms the effectiveness of using modern Chinese as a substitute. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018.

The goal of co-salient object detection (CoSOD) is to discover salient objects that commonly appear in a query group containing two or more relevant images. Therefore, how to effectively extract inter-image correspondence is crucial for the CoSOD task. In this paper, we propose a global-and-local collaborative learning architecture, which includes a global correspondence modeling (GCM) and a local correspondence modeling (LCM) to capture comprehensive inter-image corresponding relationship among different images from the global and local perspectives. Firstly, we treat different images as different time slices and use 3D convolution to integrate all intra features intuitively, which can more fully extract the global group semantics. Secondly, we design a pairwise correlation transformation (PCT) to explore similarity correspondence between pairwise images and combine the multiple local pairwise correspondences to generate the local inter-image relationship. Thirdly, the inter-image relationships of the GCM and LCM are integrated through a global-and-local correspondence aggregation (GLA) module to explore more comprehensive inter-image collaboration cues. Finally, the intra- and inter-features are adaptively integrated by an intra-and-inter weighting fusion (AEWF) module to learn co-saliency features and predict the co-saliency map. The proposed GLNet is evaluated on three prevailing CoSOD benchmark datasets, demonstrating that our model trained on a small dataset (about 3k images) still outperforms eleven state-of-the-art competitors trained on some large datasets (about 8k̴200k images). © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

Passive acoustic monitoring is emerging as a promising solution to the urgent, global need for new biodiversity assessment methods. The ecological relevance of the soundscape is increasingly recognised, and the affordability of robust hardware for remote audio recording is stimulating international interest in the potential for acoustic methods for biodiversity *** scale of the data involved requires automated methods,however, the development of acoustic sensor networks capable of sampling the soundscape across time and space and relaying the data to an accessible storage location remains a significant technical challenge, with power management at its core. Recording and transmitting large quantities of audio data is power intensive,hampering long-term deployment in remote, off-grid locations of key ecological interest. Rather than transmitting heavy audio data, in this paper, we propose a low-cost and energy efficient wireless acoustic sensor network integrated with edge computing structure for remote acoustic monitoring and in situ *** and computation of acoustic indices are carried out directly on edge devices built from low noise primo condenser microphones and Teensy microcontrollers, using internal FFT hardware support. Resultant indices are transmitted over a ZigBee-based wireless mesh network to a destination *** tests of audio quality, indices computation and power consumption demonstrate acoustic equivalence and significant power savings over current solutions.

A novel C-bandpass frequency selective surface(FSS) exhibiting miniaturized periodic parts is developed in this study. Such FSS acts as a bandpass filter at 4.03--7.87GHz. The proposed FSS exhibits miniaturization characteristics with the unit-cell dimension 0.12λ*0.12λ and the total thickness less than λ/28. Meantime, the simulation results reveal that the second-order FSS exhibits better stability under a variety of incident directions and polarization modes.

This article presents a comprehensive study on the emerging near-space communications (NS-COM) within the context of space-air-ground-sea integrated network (SAGSIN). Specifically, we firstly explore the recent technical developments of NS-COM, followed by the discussions about motivations behind integrating NS-COM into SAGSIN. To further demonstrate the necessity of NS-COM, a comparative analysis between the NS-COM network and other counterparts in SAGSIN is conducted, covering aspects of deployment, coverage, channel characteristics and unique problems of NS-COM network. Afterwards, the technical aspects of NS-COM, including channel modeling, random access, channel estimation, array-based beam management and joint network optimization, are examined in detail. Furthermore, we explore the potential applications of NS-COM, such as structural expansion in SAGSIN communication, civil aviation communication, remote and urgent communication, weather monitoring and carbon neutrality. Finally, some promising research avenues are identified, including stratospheric satellite (StratoSat) -to-ground direct links for mobile terminals, reconfigurable multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and holographic MIMO, federated learning in NS-COM networks, maritime communication, electromagnetic spectrum sensing and adversarial game, integrated sensing and communications, StratoSat-based radar detection and imaging, NS-COM assisted enhanced global navigation system, NS-COM assisted intelligent unmanned system and free space optical (FSO) communication. Overall, this paper highlights that the NS-COM plays an indispensable role in the SAGSIN puzzle, providing substantial performance and coverage enhancement to the traditional SAGSIN architecture. With the development of informatization, in order to improve office efficiency and manage students more effectively, universities have produced many management systems, such as library management systems and educational management systems. These systems mostly manage student information and other information in an integrated manner. The refinement of each module, due to the large number of colleges and universities, graduates and enrolls a large number of students every year, and the archiving of students' ideological and political courses and students' ideological and political evaluation is quite complicated. Some college management systems may only provide ideological and political courses. Course information and student test scores did not specifically manage the student's ideological and political education assessment and assess the student's psychological activities based on the student's daily performance, nor did they provide detailed course scheduling information for specific ideological and political related courses. Therefore, colleges and universities should also implement detailed information management for students' ideological and political education methods, which can improve management efficiency and reduce unnecessary human resources. The management system is developed by the Java[1-3]development language through Myeclipise as a development tool. The mysql database is used as the background to realize the information management of the ideological and political education of college students. It can promote the detailed management of all aspects of students' information management. Service school as well as students. And the machine learning algorithm is added. Through the previous students' data, the classification model is trained by Logistic regression algorithm to evaluate the students' ideological and political good condition.

DNA storage provides a high storage density and durability, but current systems experience high latency and lack data security. This study proposed the use of frequency dictionary mapping coding (FDMC) to enable handle-level random access of DNA archival storage. In addition, a hybrid e-molecular encryption strategy and a multi-level error-correction algorithm were introduced to ensure data security and integrity. The simulation and wet experiment results demonstrated that FDMC achieved handle-level random access in a lossless encrypted DNA storage system, which balanced security and robustness. Even in extreme cases, in which there was a 10% loss of DNA sequences, this system still recovered 91.74% of the original data while ensuring a storage density above 1.80 bits per nucleotide. In summary, FDMC enhances the application potential of DNA as a storage medium and bridges the gap between DNA storage and traditional storage modes.

As a fundamental technology of human motion analysis, video based pose estimation has attracted more and more attention of researchers. While most mainstream methods treated videos as a collection of unrelated frames, random false positives caused by light and shadow changes will bring greater uncertainty to the results of human body estimation. To eliminate these false positives in multi-person 2D pose estimation, a method of multi-person 2D pose estimation using the time-space relationship of adjacent frames is proposed. At first, Frame Association Information(FAI) is defined to represent the relationship between person objects in adjacent frames, which contents similarity of position, size and poses. Then, a method of false positives eliminating is designed using FAIs between frames, which can identify and remove false positives in frames according to their similarities to human objects in a benchmark frame. The following experiments show the effectiveness of our method. © 2019 Association for computing Machinery.
