Multi-dimensional Classification via Selective Feature Augmentation

In multi-dimensional classification(MDC), the semantics of objects are characterized by multiple class spaces from different dimensions. Most MDC approaches try to explicitly model the dependencies among class spaces in output space. In contrast, the recently proposed feature augmentation strategy, which aims at manipulating feature space, has also been shown to be an effective solution for MDC. However, existing feature augmentation approaches only focus on designing holistic augmented features to be appended with the original features, while better generalization performance could be achieved by exploiting multiple kinds of augmented *** this paper, we propose the selective feature augmentation strategy that focuses on synergizing multiple kinds of augmented ***, by assuming that only part of the augmented features is pertinent and useful for each dimension′s model induction, we derive a classification model which can fully utilize the original features while conduct feature selection for the augmented features. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, we generate three kinds of simple augmented features based on standard k NN, weighted k NN, and maximum margin techniques, respectively. Comparative studies show that the proposed strategy achieves superior performance against both state-of-the-art MDC approaches and its degenerated versions with either kind of augmented features.

Multi-band optical networks are a potential technology for increasing network ***,the strong interference and non-uniformity between wavelengths in multi-band optical networks have become a bottleneck restricting the transmission capacity of multi-band optical *** overcome these challenges,it is particularly important to implement optical power optimization targeting wavelength ***,based on the generalized Gaussian noise model,we first formulate an optimization model for the problems of routing,modulation format,wavelength,and power allocation in C+L+S multi-band optical *** objective function is to maximize the average link capacity of the network while ensuring that the Optical Signal-to-Noise(OSNR)threshold of the service request is not ***,we propose a NonLinear Interferenceaware(NLI-aware)routing,modulation format,wavelength,and power allocation ***,we conduct simulations under different test *** simulation results indicate that our algorithm can effectively reduce the blocking probability by 23.5%and improve the average link capacity by 3.78%in C+L+S multi-band optical networks.

Artificial intelligence(AI) systems surpass certain human intelligence abilities in a statistical sense as a whole, but are not yet the true realization of these human intelligence abilities and behaviors. There are differences, and even contradictions, between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. With the goal of achieving general AI, this study contains a review of the role of cognitive science in inspiring the development of the three mainstream academic branches of AI based on the three-layer framework proposed by David Marr, and the limitations of the current development of AI are explored and analyzed. The differences and inconsistencies between the cognition mechanisms of the human brain and the computation mechanisms of AI systems are analyzed. They are found to be the cause of the differences and contradictions between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. Additionally, eight important research directions and their scientific issues that need to focus on braininspired AI research are proposed: highly imitated bionic information processing, a large-scale deep learning model that balances structure and function, multi-granularity joint problem solving bidirectionally driven by data and knowledge, AI models that simulate specific brain structures, a collaborative processing mechanism with the physical separation of perceptual processing and interpretive analysis, embodied intelligence that integrates the brain cognitive mechanism and AI computation mechanisms,intelligence simulation from individual intelligence to group intelligence(social intelligence), and AI-assisted brain cognitive intelligence.

Short video platforms have become an essential part of people's daily lives, while also facing the challenge of the rapid spread of fake news. Therefore, the detection of fake news in short videos has attracted increasing attention. Existing works mostly focus on the integration of textual and visual content, but fail to fully exploit multi-modal information at both fine-grained and coarse-grained levels. Moreover, multi-modal fake news detection is vulnerable to modality ambiguity due to potential conflicts or weak correlations between different modalities. In this paper, we propose a Multi-grained and Multi-modal fusion for Short video Fake news Detection (MMSFD). We encode textual and visual content using pre-trained models at both fine-grained and coarse-grained levels and fuse them through distinct branches. To tackle the ambiguity issue, we design a multi-modal fusion branch based on similarity weighting, as well as separate single-modal branches. Additionally, this paper presents a cross-modal attention mechanism for adaptively aggregating and reweighting features. The experimental results on a real-world short video dataset demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art short video fake news detection methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Dual Radial-Resonant Wide Beamwidth Circular Sector Microstrip Patch Antennas

In this article, a design approach to a radial-resonant wide beamwidth circular sector patch antenna is advanced. As properly evolved from a U-shaped d ipole, a prototype magnetic dipole can be fit in the radial direction of a circular sector patch radiator, with its length set as the positive odd-integer multiples of onequarter wavelength. In this way, multiple TM0m（m = 1,2,...） modes resonant circular sector patch antenna with short-circuited circumference and widened E-plane beamwidth can be realized by proper excitation and perturbations. Prototype antennas are then designed and fabricated to validate the design approach. Experimental results reveal that the E-plane beamwidth of a dual-resonant antenna fabricated on air/Teflon substrate can be effectively broadened to 128°/120°, with an impedance bandwidth of 17.4%/7.1%, respectively. In both cases, the antenna heights are strictly limited to no more than 0.03-guided wavelength. It is evidently validated that the proposed approach can effectively enhance the operational bandwidth and beamwidth of a microstrip patch antenna while maintaining its inherent low profile merit.

Much progress has been made in the field of person re-identification, but changes in clothing have hindered the practical application of long-term person re-identification. Cloth-changing person re-identification (CC-ReID) aims to address this problem, with the main challenge being the extraction of discriminative features unrelated to clothing. Existing methods, which mainly focus on introducing clothing-irrelevant cues such as key points, contours, and 3D shapes, require additional modules for feature extraction, resulting in increased complexity and potential inaccuracies due to dependence on the performance of external models. Few studies directly use the original RGB images to make the model constantly focus on clothing-independent information. In this paper, we propose a Confidence-Guided Feature Alignment network (CGFA) for CC-ReID. Specifically, we design a confidence module that automatically learns to make confidence adjustments to fine-grained information, prompting the model to mine clothing-independent discriminative features without introducing other modal cues. By transferring knowledge, we encourage the model to learn discriminative identity features that are independent of clothing bias. As a result, the confidence module can be removed during the inference phase. The proposed simple but efficient method uses only RGB modality without additional cues, and can serve as a powerful baseline for CC-ReID to drive future research. Extensive experiments on the CC-ReID datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which achieves state-of-the-art performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

To train robust malicious traffic identification models under noisy labeled datasets, a number of learning with noise labels approaches have been introduced, among which parallel training methods have been proved to be effective. Parallel training methods tend to select samples with disagreement to mitigate the risk of self-control degradation. However, it also introduces noisy knowledge into training. In this letter, we try to avoid introducing noisy knowledge by enhancing the consistency of the representations of parallel networks. Meanwhile, the two networks are heterogeneous and introduce information from different modalities, thus mitigating the risk of self-control degradation from multiple perspectives. © 2019 IEEE.

APFT: Adaptive Phoneme Filter Template to Generate Anti-Compression Speech Adversarial Example in Real-Time

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems are widely used for speech censoring. Speech Adversarial Example (AE) offers a novel approach to protect speech privacy by forcing ASR to mistranscribe. However, existing speech AE faces two challenges in real-time voice communication scenarios, such as IP telephone, voice chat, or video conference, it cannot be generated in real-time, and its defensive capability is significantly reduced after the essential audio compression for network transmission. In this paper, we propose Adaptive Phoneme Filter Template (APFT) to address these issues. The key features of APFT include: 1) Phoneme-level Templates for universal AE generation in real-time, 2) Filter, which eliminates redundant signals to improve compression robustness. 3) Adaptive Band Filtering, which limits the attack area from the frequency band without affecting the attack effectiveness and improves speech quality. The comprehensive experimental results show that APFT has four advantages: 1) Real-time Generation, with AE generation time below 1.1ms for 1s speech;2) Compression Robustness, achieving a WER of 0.64 under AAC and Opus codecs;3) Transferability, with an average WER of 0.72 across datasets and ASR systems;4) Stealthiness, achieving a MOS of 4.07 for high-quality speech. In addition, the experiment on Telegram voice calls further proves the practical applicability of APFT. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Utilizing high-resolution antenna arrays and wide bandwidth of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum in 5G new radio (NR) mmWave communication systems holds the potential for high-throughput data transmission while enabling user localization and environmental mapping. However, the majority of existing simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms rely on methods akin to the extended Kalman filter for generating initial map features. These methods prove ineffective when the measurement dimension is insufficient. Furthermore, there is a notable absence of research exploring mmWave prototype systems to evaluate and compare the performance and viability of various SLAM algorithms. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative probability hypothesis density (PHD) generation scheme for birth events and have developed a prototype system. Our approach, referred to as PHD-SLAM, exhibits remarkable effectiveness even in scenarios where the measurement dimension falls short of map features. This means it can function seamlessly with only delay or angle information available. Additionally, we have designed a 28GHz mmWave beam scanning prototype system that leverages the 5G NR frame for accomplishing SLAM algorithms. Following this, we conducted extensive simulations and experimental evaluations to gauge the performance of several leading-edge SLAM algorithms under diverse mmWave circumstances, encompassing PHD-based and belief propagation (BP) SLAM algorithms. Our analysis reveals that both PHD and BP SLAM can achieve agent localization precision within a decimeter and mapping precision within a meter, capitalizing on the angle parameters of mmWave signals. While BP SLAM showcases reduced computational demand, its estimation precision is marginally inferior to that of PHD-SLAM. © 2014 IEEE.

Thanks to their low deployment costs and high flexibility, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been widely applied for data collection in Internet of Things (IoT) networks. However, the unpredictable status updates from deployed sensor nodes (SN) and potential failures of SN can affect the freshness of information. In this paper, we investigate the UAV data collection in monitored areas with redundant SNs to alleviate the impact of potential SN failures. The SNs generate status updates at random time slots, which will be collected by UAVs and transmitted to a data center. In order to minimize the average age of synchronization (AoS) of the network and the UAV energy consumption, we formulate a Markov decision process and adopt dueling double deep Q network (D3QN) method to optimize UAV flight trajectories. Simulation results demonstrate that our method achieves better performance compared with baseline policies in environments where SN failures occur. © 2024 IEEE.
