Amidst global population growth and escalating food demands, real-time agricultural monitoring is crucial for ensuring food security. During the initial stages of crop growth, however, it faces significant challenges in obtaining accurate ground truth data via remote sensing, thereby impeding effective crop classification. Traditional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models, although effective in image processing and feature extraction within computer vision, are notably limited in their ability to handle the high dimensionality and complex spectral information inherent in hyperspectral non-image remote sensing data. To address this problem, we designed an enhanced CNN model, CBM-CNN. The CBM-CNN incorporates additional convolutional layers (C), batch normalization (B), and MLP(M) to convert one-dimensional data into two-dimensional data for classification, thus improving the processing efficiency of highly nonlinear data features. Building on CBM-CNN, we add multiple attention mechanisms (CBMM-CNN) to enhance feature extraction capabilities. The Siamese CBMM-CNN (SCBMM-CNN) is employed for in-depth learning of data features, with supervised learning precisely adjusting the model to improve classification performance. Experimental results on hyperspectral remote sensing datasets demonstrate that SCBMM-CNN outperforms traditional machine learning models (PCA-RF, GBDT, GMO-SVM, Random Forest, Decision Tree) and deep learning models (CNN, CNN-LSTM) in terms of accuracy, recall rate, F1 score, and kappa coefficient. These results confirm that SCBMM-CNN significantly improves crop classification accuracy and provides a novel method for early crop growth classification. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A leaded sine–cosine artificial protozoa optimizer algorithm for solving multi-objective optimization problems

Many real-world engineering problems require simultaneous optimization of multiple objectives. The artificial protozoa optimizer (APO), a recently proposed and efficient optimization method, has demonstrated potential in solving multi-objective problems. In order to solve multi-objective problems, this paper proposes a novel algorithm based on the APO framework, the Leaded Sine Cosine Multi-objective APO (LSCMOAPO) algorithm. LSCMOAPO mainly integrates the sine–cosine algorithm (SCA) and a leader selection strategy to guide the population towards the true Pareto front. The algorithm was validated through extensive simulations involving 41 benchmark test functions (ZDT-series, UF-series, CF-series, and CEC2020-series) and five practical engineering problems. Performance was evaluated using the inverted generational distance, generational distance, Hypervolume, and spacing metrics. Comparative analysis with ten other multi-objective optimization algorithms (MOPSO, MOSSA, MOGWO, MODA, MOCryStAl, MOALO, MOGOA, MOSMA, MOGNDO, and MOAPO) also validated the better performance of LSCMOAPO in more than 86% occasions (The average of the evaluation indicators) in realizing high-quality solutions to all multi-objective problems, including linear, nonlinear, continuous, and discrete Pareto optimal front. Properties regulation and application of Mn2+ doped and Mn2+ and Eu2+ co-doped novel halogen germanate Ba3GeO4Br2 phosphor

Novel halogen germanate Ba3GeO4Br2:xMn2+(x from 0.5 % to 1.0 %) and Ba3GeO4Br2:0.7 %Mn2+, yEu2+(y from 0.1 % to 0.7 %) phosphors were synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reaction. An innovative embedding technique involving a high-purity graphite crucible encasing an alumina crucible was developed and utilized during the sintering process to enhance the conversion of Mn2+ and Eu2+. The primary emission peak of Ba3GeO4Br2:Mn2+ phosphors corresponds to the 4T1→6A1(G) (495 nm) transition, which exhibits cyan-green light emission upon 291 nm excitation. The emission peak of Ba3GeO4Br2:Mn2+, Eu2+ phosphors corresponds to the 4T1→6A1(G) and the typical 4f→5d of Eu2+ ions transition. The luminous color of the phosphor can be adjusted by changing the concentration of Eu2+ ions. Thus, white light emission of the phosphor can be realized through regulation of the Eu2+ ion concentration parameters. During this process, energy transfer occurred between Mn2+ and Eu2+ with an energy transfer efficiency of 21.11 %, which is an effective way to achieve color-adjustable emission in inorganic phosphors. Due to the prepared samples possessing perfect emission spectra and distinct afterglow characteristics, we designed experiments involving letter patterning and garlic growth to demonstrate its potential applications in plant cultivation and anti-counterfeiting technologies. The results show that the prepared phosphors’ applications in plant growth, white-light-emitting diode (WLED) and anti-counterfeiting appears promising. © 2025

Benefited from the increased satellite observations with medium spatial resolution, land use/cover mapping at local to global scales has provided important supports for society and academy community. For specific purposes (e.g., disaster assessment, detecting surface abrupt change), it is needed to increase the observation frequency, through combining different satellite sensors (i.e. as virtual constellation). However, many factors challenge this combination in practice, in which the comparability issue in sensor settings should be considered among various payload platforms. In this study, from the perspective of practical application, a comparative analysis of land use/cover mapping was investigated, with focusing on three observations by the Gaofen-1 (GF-1) wide field of view (WFV), Sentinel-2A Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI), and Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) respectively. Four methods were implemented in classification experiments. Preliminary results showed that the Sentinal-2A MSI outperformed the GF-1 WFV and the Landsat-8 OLI in classification, no matter which classifier was considered. Meanwhile, the higher spatial resolution of the GF-1 WFV certainly compensated its lack of spectral channels compared against the Landsat-8 OLI. The choice of methods affected classification for a specific observation, while the more suitable classifier varied among sensors. This study underlines the compatibility issue in land use/cover mapping with different observations. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

An Efficient Direct Downlink Sensing Method Using 5G NR SSB Signals in Perceptive Mobile Networks

In perceptive mobile networks (PMNs), using 5G New Radio (NR) signals for direct sensing poses a significant challenge to practical implementation due to the high computational complexity involved in estimating sensing parameters. In this paper, an efficient sensing method is proposed to incorporate both downlink active sensing and passive sensing to estimate multiple sensing parameters, including delays, angle of arrival (AoA), angle of departure (AoD) and Doppler. In particular, it exploits the synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to facilitate sensing with multiple remote radio units (RRUs). To reduce the computational complexity of direct sensing, a sparse model is developed to decouple multiple sensing parameter estimation, enabling efficient sensing method design. Then, leveraging unitary approximate message passing (UAMP) and sparse Bayesian learning (SBL), we propose an efficient method to achieve parameter estimation and association with corresponding RRUs. This method is further extended to general scenarios involving multiple path components with the same delay. Extensive simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, showing that it outperforms existing ones in terms of sensing accuracy and complexity. © 2014 IEEE.

Multi-modal sentiment recognition with residual gating network and emotion intensity attention

Multimodal emotion recognition focuses on the prediction of emotions using text, visual and acoustic modalities, and some results have been generated in this field. Previous approaches fall short in two aspects, one is the processing of complementary information among modalities, the other is how to avoid the long-term dependency and select the most important joint modal features. In this paper, we propose a new multimodal emotion recognition framework MSRG, which consists of feature extraction (FE), emotional intensity attention (EIA), time-step level fusion (TLF), utterance level fusion (ULF), and sentiment inference module (SIM). EIA is divided into adaptive multimodal linear pooling (AMLP) and joint cross-attention fusion (JCAF), where AMLP adopts the adaptive strategy of multimodal fusion to dynamically calculate the adaptive coefficients of three modalities, then performs the pooling operation to obtain joint modal features. JCAF calculates the attention weights and attention features of each modality based on cross-correlation between individual and joint features. TLF performs feature alignment fusion at the time-step level, then uses the residual gating network (RGN) to process the time-step level fused sequences. The obtained time-step level fused features are then input into two fully connected layers and an activation layer to obtain the time-step level emotion intensity. ULF fuses the three modalities’ utterance level representations by concatenating them and then inputs the obtained utterance level fused features into a fully connected layer to obtain the utterance level emotion intensity. Finally, both the time-step level emotion intensity and the utterance level emotion intensity are input into SIM to obtain the final emotion prediction results. Experiments demonstrate that MSRG achieves better prediction performance on CMU-MOSI and CMU-MOSEI datasets. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

A Part-of-Speech Tagging Model Employing Word Clustering and Syntactic Parsing

Part-Of-Speech tagging is a basic task in the field of natural language processing. This paper builds a POS tagger based on improved Hidden Markov model, by employing word clustering and syntactic parsing model. Firstly, In order to overcome the defects of the classical HMM, Markov family model (MFM), a new statistical model was introduced. Secondly, to solve the problem of data sparseness, we propose a bottom-to-up hierarchical word clustering algorithm. Then we combine syntactic parsing with part-of-speech tagging. The Part-of-Speech tagging experiments show that the improved Part-Of-Speech tagging model has higher performance than Hidden Markov models (HMMs) under the same testing conditions, the precision is enhanced from 94.642% to 97.235%.

Moving target defense (MTD) is a promising approach to defend against load redistribution attacks on the internet-of-things (IoT)-based smart grid networks by probing the distorted state estimates with the distributed flexible AC transmission system. However, existing studies mainly focus on optimizing the performance of MTD and ignore the safety effect of it on the system’s operation. In this paper, we fill this gap by deeply analyzing the effect of MTD on the small signal stability and aim to alleviate the negative impact and guarantee its defending performance simultaneously. Firstly, the stability is formally described using the eigenvalue sensitivity. The relationship between the MTD-induced perturbation (MTDper) and the stability criteria is derived. Secondly, a new indicator is proposed to measure the effectiveness of MTDper. Thirdly, a constrained optimization problem is formulated to compute the bound of MTDper for guaranteeing the small signal stability. In addition, a surprising finding is that the stability margin can be improved and enhanced by optimizing the value of MTDper without losing the MTD’s effectiveness. Finally, we evaluate the performance of MTDper and its impact on the small signal stability with extensive simulations on the IEEE 30-bus, 39-bus, and 68-bus test power systems. © 2014 IEEE.

The Broad Learning System (BLS) has been extensively developed and applied across various fields due to its significant advantages, including high efficiency, strong generality, and scalability. However, in practical applications where both inputs and outputs are contaminated by noise, traditional BLS demonstrates suboptimal performance in handling sample data. This study introduces a novel regularized total least squares broad learning system (RTLS-BLS) designed to enhance the robustness of BLS when noisy values are present in both the input and the output of the training set. Initially, the k-support norm is integrated into the BLS-based autoencoder (BLS-AE), embedded within BLS, to extract robust features from the original input data. The BLS-AE equipped with the k-support norm effectively addresses or mitigates issues related to overly sparse (based on L1-norm) or overly dense (based on L2-norm) regularization of extracted features. Subsequently, regularized total least squares (RTLS) are employed to assess the output weights of BLS, further enhancing its robustness. Moreover, simultaneous perturbation measures for the coefficient matrix and the output are provided. Experimental results from two function approximation tasks, eight benchmark regression tasks, and two network interface flow datasets demonstrate that the proposed RTLS-BLS achieves significantly robust performance under noisy conditions compared to other methods. © 2025 Codon Publications.
