Personalized news recommendation helps users find interesting content among much news information. Most existing news recommendation techniques densely interact a user’s historical clicked news with candidate news to capture their reading interest. However, during this process, even if certain historical clicked news is weakly correlated with the candidate news, the model still interacts with it, generating more noise information when constructing user interests. Simultaneously, the news representation learning process using neural networks is a fine-grained to coarse-grained learning process; i.e., as the network deepens, the fine-grained original news information is easily lost. Therefore, to solve the above problems, this paper proposes a news recommendation model based on hierarchical granular semantic embeddings and threshold attention (HGTA). In HGTA, we propose a threshold attention module to filter unimportant historical clicked news by setting an attention score threshold, i.e., interacting only with historical clicked news that is strongly correlated with the candidate news when capturing user interests. Thus, the model attention is focused, and the noisy interaction information is reduced. Furthermore, when training the neural network, to prevent the loss of fine-grained information, we design a hierarchical granular information extraction module to capture both coarse- and fine-grained news features to better enrich the news semantics. Experiments conducted on the large real-world Microsoft News dataset (MIND) show that our model achieves highly competitive results in terms of popular metrics. The objective of Multimodal knowledge Graph Completion (MKGC) is to forecast absent entities within a knowledge graph by leveraging additional textual and visual modalities. Existing studies commonly utilize a singular relationship embedding to depict all modalities within an entity pair, thus connecting several relationships derived from diverse modalities. However, this coupling may introduce interference from conflicting information between modalities, as the relationships between modalities for a given entity pair can be contradictory. Moreover, existing Ensemble Inference methods fail to dynamically adjust modal weights based on their differences and importance, despite the varying contributions of different modalities. In this paper, we propose the Multimodal Decouple and Relation-based Ensemble inference (MDRE) model. For each modality, we construct corresponding relationship embeddings and build separate triple representations to avoid interferences among modalities. During the training phase, we employ confidence-constrained training with temperature scaling to alleviate conflicting information in textual and visual modalities. For inference, we utilize the Relation-based Ensemble Inference method to adjust modal weights at the relationship level, thus achieving improved prediction results. Experimental results on two datasets demonstrate that MDRE outperforms existing single-modal and multimodal knowledge graph completion methods in terms of performance.

Multimodal sentiment analysis(MSA) aims to synthesize multiple pieces of information, including textual, visual, and auditory information, to more accurately infer sentiment polarity. Due to the existence of complex and diverse affective causal relationships between different modalities, they interact with each other and constitute a multidimensional expression of human emotions. In the face of unbalanced data, i.e., when there are significant differences in the number of samples between different categories, the attention mechanism of the model tends to focus on spurious correlations in the training data, seriously impairing the model’s generalization ability and leading to bias, unbalanced prediction, and false correlation identification problems. To address the above problems, this study proposes a new multimodal fusion method based on the "within-sample sampling" and "cross-sample sampling" front door adjustment methods in causal inference strategies: the multi-head causal attention fusion method (MCAF). This method aims to capture potential causal relationships between different modalities through different attention heads, helping the model focus more on key causal features and avoid paying too much attention to false correlations in the training data. This helps improve the generalization performance of the model, make the decision-making process of the model more interpretable, and enhance the accuracy and robustness of the model for multimodal sentiment analysis tasks, making it more suitable for practical application scenarios.

Entity alignment(EA) aims to identify equivalent entities in different knowledge graphs or data sources and establish correspondences between them. In recent years, embedding-based methods have made significant progress in the field of entity alignment, yet the shortage of adequate training data (i.e., seed entity pairs) continues to be a primary challenge. Traditional semi-supervised methods typically address this issue by generating potential mappings (i.e., pseudo-mappings) for unlabeled entities. However, these methods often suffer from the influence of erroneous potential mappings or overlook the uncertainty of potential mappings. Therefore, we propose a novel semi-supervised entity alignment method called JTEA. This method combines seed entity pairs with potential mappings through end-to-end joint training, providing strong guidance for model training. In constructing potential mappings, we propose a bidirectional matching strategy (BMS), which generates more detailed potential mappings by jointly adjusting decisions in different directions and uses a joint matching confidence score to characterize its uncertainty. Furthermore, we also introduce a method of matching diversity alignment selection, aiming to screen out more reliable entity alignments to further improve the performance and stability of the model. We conducted a large number of experiments on the benchmark dataset to fully validate the effectiveness of the JTEA method.

Network slicing for service-oriented networks under resource constraints

To support multiple on-demand services over fixed communication networks, network operators must allow flexible customization and fast provision of their network resources. One effective approach to this end is network virtualization, whereby each service is mapped to a virtual subnetwork providing dedicated on-demand support to network users. In practice, each service consists of a prespecified sequence of functions, called a service function chain (SFC), while each service function in a SFC can only be provided by some given network nodes. Thus, to support a given service, we must select network function nodes according to the SFC and determine the routing strategy through the function nodes in a specified order. A crucial network slicing problem that needs to be addressed is how to optimally localize the service functions in a physical network as specified by the SFCs, subject to link and node capacity constraints. In this paper, we formulate the network slicing problem as a mixed binary linear program and establish its strong NP-hardness. Furthermore, we propose efficient penalty successive upper bound minimization (PSUM) and PSUM-R(ounding) algorithms, and two heuristic algorithms to solve the problem. Object pose detection and tracking has recently attracted increasing attention due to its wide applications in many areas, such as autonomous driving, robotics, and augmented reality. Among methods for object pose detection and tracking, deep learning is the most promising one that has shown better performance than others. However, survey study about the latest development of deep learning-based methods is lacking. Therefore, this study presents a comprehensive review of recent progress in object pose detection and tracking that belongs to the deep learning technical route. To achieve a more thorough introduction, the scope of this study is limited to methods taking monocular RGB/RGBD data as input and covering three kinds of major tasks: instance-level monocular object pose detection, category-level monocular object pose detection, and monocular object pose tracking. In our work, metrics, datasets, and methods of both detection and tracking are presented in detail. Comparative results of current state-of-the-art methods on several publicly available datasets are also presented, together with insightful observations and inspiring future research directions. Medical Visual Question Answering (Med-VQA) is a sophisticated multimodal technology within the medical domain that utilizes natural language processing and artificial intelligence techniques. It serves as a tool in the medical field to provide information and answers, aiming to correctly respond to medical questions related to specific professional medical images. The primary goal is to assist patients in understanding their physical condition and provide decision support for healthcare professionals. While Generalized Visual Question Answering has seen significant advancements, challenges persist in the medical domain. Firstly, medical data has inherent limitations, such as the scarcity of annotated medical datasets and the complexity of medical images (including factors like noise, artifacts, and low contrast). Secondly, in terms of cross-modal fusion, there exists an intricate relationship between medical images and textual information. The complexity of the relationship between medical images and medical text, as well as the incorporation of global contextual details, pose challenges. To address these issues, this paper proposes the Feature-Enhanced Network with Conditional Mixing. This innovative approach aims to overcome the scarcity and complexity of medical images without the need for additional datasets. Simultaneously, to tackle the challenge of cross-modal fusion and information interaction and to address the complex relationship between medical images and text, we propose the Cross-Adaptive Fusion Network. Experimental results conducted on the VQA-RAD dataset demonstrate noticeable improvements in accuracy compared to mainstream Med-VQA models.

Enhanced Adsorption of Copper Citrate Complex by Ferromanganese Oxides-Biochar from Water: Performance and Mechanism

Due to the stable structure of complex metals, their removal is more challenging compared to metal ions. Additionally, the removal mechanism of metal complexes is closely related to their structure. This study developed a low-cost and economically efficient ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar and explored the preparation conditions in detail. The surface of ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar was uniformly loaded with 100 nm nanoparticles, mainly comprising Mn3O4 and (FeO)0.099(MnO)0.901, and exhibited excellent copper citrate (CuCA) adsorption capacity. The removal rate of CuCA at an initial concentration of 10 mg/L by 1 g/L modified biochar reached 99.5% for Cu and 87.7% for TOC, with a copper adsorption capacity of 3.79 mg/L. The mechanism of using modified biochar to remove CuCA includes chemical adsorption at the bimetallic oxide active sites and oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of the biochar, as well as physical adsorption due to biochar’s porous structure and other effects. The modified biochar shows good performance and stability in wide pH range and certain coexisting ions. Ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar own the advantage of efficient, economical and easy to preparation, which has significant potential for development in the removal of metal complexes in water. © 2024, The Authors. Underwater images are often affected by problems such as light attenuation, color distortion, noise and scattering, resulting in image defects. A novel image inpainting method is proposed to intelligently predict and fill damaged areas for complete and continuous visualization of the image. First, in order to effectively solve the problem of color distortion caused by light refraction in underwater environments, the improved gated attention mechanism is used. This mechanism improves the local details by learning and weighting the important features of the image. Second, gated convolution automatically determines the degree of restoration for each pixel based on local features of the original image. It eliminates distractions such as low contrast and scattering, retaining more original detailed information. By doing so, image inpainting techniques improve the quality and visualization of underwater images.

In recent years, aspect sentiment quadruple prediction (ASQP) has become a popular task in the field of aspect-based sentiment analysis. When modeling comment statements, it is often necessary to consider structural information between sentiment labels. Existing approaches categorize these labels by encoding text and dependency tree structures separately and then incorporating their representations, but this approach fails to effectively capture the structural information between sentiment labels. To address this problem, we propose a method for ASQP called Opinion-Tree-guided Contrastive Learning (OTCL), which embeds structural information directly into the text instead of modeling it separately. Specifically, OTCL utilizes the opinion tree structure to guide the construction of positive samples of the input text during training. By associating the input text with its positive samples, the text encoder can learn to generate textual representations associated with the opinion tree structure. We validate the effectiveness of our method on two commonly used datasets.
